Chapter 432: Rewrite the Stars (2)

Lennox sent someone to pick up the monk Lewis met before the attack incident. He wanted to know what triggered Lewis to attack Adrienne. Adrienne had woken up for the second time, but she still couldn’t recognize anyone and would continue to speak words none of them could understand except Lennox.

Adrienne stayed with her mother and wouldn’t go anywhere without her. Rosemary found herself tending to her daughter’s needs again, such as bathing, feeding, and comforting her when upset. She felt her responsibility was to take care of Adrienne after everything her daughter had gone through because of her.

Lennox’s siblings were thrilled when they heard that their favorite sister-in-law was finally awake; however, they were surprised to see her in a depressed state. Adrienne had also mistaken Noah for Dylan, someone no one knew.

Still, the young boy was at ease and hugged his mother, regardless of whether she could recognize him or not. He would stay with her and help Rosemary look after Adrienne, as she refused to be around Lennox or her brother. She couldn’t stand being close to any adult man, including her husband.

However, three days later, Adrienne entered deep sleep again and never woke up. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

When the monk arrived a week later, Rosemary was surprised to see him. She looked at Lennox for an explanation, and her son-in-law informed her of Lewis’s meeting with the monk before his attack on Adrienne.

"I have never thought something like this would happen." The monk shook his head as he glanced at Adrienne’s terrified expression. "Indeed, her father visited me a couple of weeks ago, asking for enlightenment about his daughter’s fate."

"But it isn’t true, right? That is, Addie was born under the ’star of calamity.’ Lennox asked, wanting to put an end to this curse being associated with his wife.

The monk sighed and replied, "Unfortunately, it is true. The stars have foretold a difficult path for Adrienne since her birth."

Rosemary’s heart sank as she realized the magnitude of the situation. This monk was known within upper society, though most of his patrons were older people. Many of them sought his advice to read their children’s fates and to find a decent spouse for them in the future. Though she cannot vouch for his authenticity, she knows the monk has quite a reputation.

The monk’s words surprised Lennox. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

"Those born under the star of calamity are deemed to bring misfortune to those around them. They are also deemed to lose their lives at a young age. When Lewis sought me, asking why Adrienne was spared from such a fate, I had no choice but to reveal the truth."

"And that is?" Lennox frowned.

"That his daughter had made a sacrifice to change her fate and that someone had affected her destiny." The monk paused and stared at Lennox, giving him a good look. "I understand now. It was you who had affected her destiny."

Lennox hardened his jaws. He was the only one who knew that Adrienne was reborn. He said nothing and waited for the monk to continue.

"You have interfered and altered the course of her life." The monk continued, "She was able to change the course of her destiny because of her sacrifice and you."

"How am I supposed to believe this?" Lennox’s frown deepened. "Do you expect me to believe that Addie’s father believed she was responsible for all the misfortune the Jiang family suffered for the past years? I also know for certain that Addie doesn’t need me to change her fate and save herself. My wife isn’t weak."

As for the Jiang family, whatever misfortune they suffered was because of their own doing. They never owed for their mistakes and were conveniently pushing all the blame to his wife.

The monk remained calm and replied, "I understand your doubts, young one. You were destined to spend a lifetime alone because you were born under the star of a lone wolf. You are destined to have a life without a partner or spouse, but you would have all the riches the world could offer."

Lennox was taken aback but didn’t know how to feel about this revelation. Adrienne told him he passed away before he reached the age of 40, so how could this monk’s prediction be accurate?

He surmised that he hadn’t truly died in Adrienne’s past life, and instead, she only knew what the public had been told about his death. If he and Lennox in her past lives were the same, given the situation with the Qin family, he would have pretended to be weak and uninterested in the family business before giving them a surprising and calculated strike.

If this were the case, Adrienne would have died in her thirty-first year while he continued to live without knowing what he’d missed; their paths never crossed. As someone who was career-oriented and focused on personal success, Lennox wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t marry in Adrienne’s previous life at all and led a life of solitude.

"But that’s changed because of the decision she impulsively made that led to your meeting." The monk continued and paused for a moment. "I realized now that her father wanted to put everything back on its right course and ensure that the misfortune would end along with her life."

Lennox’s mind raced with all the information he had just received. The monk’s words had shaken him to his core, causing him to question his own role in Adrienne’s life. Could it be true that he had disrupted the natural order of things? That he had unknowingly altered her destiny?

He looked at Adrienne, asleep on their bed, lost in her world of confusion and fear. But he couldn’t find it in himself to regret loving and marrying her.

Lennox’s mind was racing, trying to process everything the monk had revealed. If what the monk said was true, then Adrienne’s sacrifice had altered the course of her destiny and his own. If she hadn’t made that impulsive decision, they never would have met, and their lives would have followed the predetermined paths set by their birth stars.

He felt a surge of anger rise within him. He couldn’t accept that his wife was destined to suffer misfortune and an early death while he lived on, consumed by loneliness. The idea of their fates being dictated by some mystical stars seemed unfair and cruel.

Is there any way to undo it?" Lennox asked, his voice filled with desperation.

The monk shook his head solemnly.

"Once a destiny is altered, it cannot be reversed. It is a path that cannot be untraveled." He paused and stared at Lennox for a moment. "But it’s not too late for you. You are at the point where success is almost within your reach ."
