Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 418: Alistair’s Madness (2)
Ayla’s mood significantly improved after meeting her mother. She knew she couldn’t entirely be free from Alistair’s grasp, but she wanted to regain some control over her life and not be treated like a prisoner in this massive home.
Everything was lavishly provided for her, from food to cosmetics to clothes. It was as if she were in a harem, but everyone was only tending to her needs and ensuring she looked good for her husband.
However, Alistair forbade her to have any communication with the outside world. They had been married for over a year now, but Ayla had only seen her husband a handful of times, mainly during the earliest months of their marriage.
That said, his visitation immediately ceased as soon as she fell pregnant. Ayla then knew he was only tolerating her because the Han family pressured him to produce an heir for their family. If it hadn’t been for this reason, Ayla had no doubt Alistair would have left her long ago.
Ayla was seated on the vanity in their opulent bedroom, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She had a long bath and was now brushing her hair. She was thinking about what to do once she got her temporary freedom.
Surely, her mother would find a way to convince Alistair to allow her to stay with her. Ayla thought that if she stayed here for another year, she might lose her mind from the suffocating control and unhappiness of her marriage. She yearned for a taste of independence that had been denied her for so long. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
With her looks and talent, Ayla knew she still had a chance to return to the entertainment industry. She didn’t want her son to grow up thinking she was a loser.
Ayla was deep in her thoughts and didn’t notice the husband she’d been yearning to see for the past few months had entered her room and looked at her with disinterest.
"I heard your mother paid you a visit yesterday." He said Ayla snapped out of her thoughts and looked at her husband, surprised by his sudden visit.
She nodded, trying to hide her nervousness, and replied, "Yes, she did. It was nice to see her after so long."
Alistair stared at her for a long moment before finally sighing and turning away. Ayla could sense the tension in the air, realizing something was amiss between them. She wondered if her mother’s visit had triggered an underlying issue in their relationship.
"M-my child..." Ayla jolted up from her seat and looked at her husband. "Is he with you now? Is he finally home?"
Alistair stopped and looked at her over his shoulder with a cold stare.
"Your child?" He chuckled darkly. "You must be misunderstanding here, Ayla."
Ayla’s heart pounded in her chest upon hearing those words. She felt a wave of confusion, and fear wash over her as she tried to comprehend what Alistair was implying. A million thoughts raced through her mind, wondering if she had missed something.
"W-what do you mean, Alistair?!" She exclaimed. "Where’s my baby? You aren’t planning to take him away from me?" Ayla’s voice trembled with desperation as she reached out to grab Alistair’s arm, her eyes pleading for answers.
"Your child?" Alistair repeated her words. "You might have given birth to him, but you are not his mother."
He then pushed her away, making Ayla fall to the cold floor. Ayla cried out in pain. Her body was still recovering from childbirth, and the fall only added to her physical agony. She struggled to catch her breath, feeling a mix of shock and disbelief at Alistair’s words. The room spun around her as she tried to process what he had just said, her heart breaking at the thought of losing the baby she had carried for nine long months.
Alistair then kneeled before her and gripped her chin forcefully, his eyes filled with anger and contempt.
"You will never be the mother of my child," he spat, his voice dripping with venom. "What did I tell you when you married me? Didn’t I say I’d make your life a living hell and that you would regret crossing me? You’ve enjoyed your status as my wife for quite some time now. Hell, you even bring shame to my family. Do you think I’ll allow you to bring that same shame to my son?"
Ayla’s tears streamed down her face as she realized the depth of Alistair’s cruelty. She found herself breathless and unable to comprehend how the man she once loved could harbor such hatred for her. Her heart shattered into a million pieces as she finally understood that there was no hope for redemption or reconciliation in their broken marriage.
"I... I won’t bring him any shame." She pleaded. "Please let me see him. I’m his mother. He still needs me!"
"But I don’t," Alistair said coldly. His eyes were filled with hatred for the woman before him. "You are unfit to become his mother, nor are you fit to be my wife. You’ve taken Adrienne’s rightful place, and it’s time for me to get rid of you."
Ayla looked at her husband in disbelief and laughed hysterically. So, in the end, he still yearns for her cousin and never sees her as his wife.
"Adrienne? Adrienne? Why is she still what you want when I’m with you? What have I done wrong? I’ve given you everything, Alistair. I’ve loved you all my life, but why can’t you see that?"
"Because your love isn’t what I want. What I want is Adrienne, and you have ruined everything for me. You’ve deceived me all this time, pretending to be someone you’re not. I can’t continue living this lie with you anymore. I will have my wife, and that isn’t you."
Ayla’s heart shattered as she realized that her love for Alistair was not enough to make him see her as his wife. He was set to be with Adrienne just as she was to him.
She laughed harder, but her tears continued to stream down her face.
"But Addie doesn’t want you." She mockingly told her husband, wanting to hurt him just as much as he’d hurt her.
"She’s crazily in love with Lennox Qin, and there was no way she would choose you over him." Ayla reminded her husband.
Her cousin, Adrienne, was already happily married to someone else, and Alistair was deluding himself if he thought she would leave her husband for him.
Her words infuriated Alistair, who immediately saw red upon hearing them. His massive body pounced into her, trapping her beneath him as he wrapped his hands tightly around her neck.
Ayla struggled to free herself from Alistair’s grip, desperately gasping for air. The intensity of his anger frightened her, and she realized the extent of his obsession with Adrienne. It was clear that Alistair’s delusions had driven him to a dangerous breaking point.
"Adrienne will be mine!" He growled, his voice filled with a disturbing mix of determination and madness.
"Even if I have to get rid of you, her Zhao family, and Lennox Qin, I will stop at nothing to have her. My wife. I will bring my back home, but first, I need to get rid of you."
Ayla’s vision blurred as her oxygen supply dwindled, the pressure on her neck tightening with each passing second. She clawed at Alistair’s hands, desperate to break free and draw in a breath of life-saving air. Panic welled inside her; she could sense Alistair’s madness had peaked.
Just as she thought he would kill her, Alistair loosened his hold around her neck as the door opened. Ayla coughed a few times and heaved for breath but found herself pinned against the floor by three men in dark suits. Another one was knelt beside her, holding a syringe with a yellowish liquid on it.
Ayla’s eyes widened in fear as she struggled against the strong grip of the men who held her down. She frantically searched for any means of escape, her heart pounding in her chest. The man with the syringe approached her, his expression void of emotion.
"Please..." Ayla pleaded, her voice weak and hoarse. "Please don’t... don’t do this."
But her pleas fell on deaf ears as the man injected the yellowish liquid into her arm. A wave of dizziness washed over her, making her limbs feel heavy and unresponsive. Her eyelids grew heavy, and darkness began to consume her vision.
However, before she lost consciousness, Ayla heard her husband’s chilling voice say, "Ayla is unfit to become the mother of my child. She will spend some time in a mental facility to address her instability. It’s for the best."
Ayla’s heart sank as she realized the extent of her husband’s betrayal, leaving her astonished at the depth of his cruelty. She had loved him with all her heart, only to be deceived and discarded in the end.
