Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 167: Evil Child (1)
Adrienne knew she could not avoid her father after Elise’s mishap during Marion Gu’s party. He would surely side with his daughter with his mistress. It had always been like this, even in the past, and Adrienne didn’t doubt it would remain the same.
She had already returned to her estate just before her brother returned from the barracks. When Hunter found out what happened during his absence from Lennox, he was livid!
Adrienne had never seen her brother so furious before. His face turned red, and his voice boomed throughout the entire room as he demanded an explanation from her. Adrienne relayed everything in fear of the repercussions, hoping her brother would comprehend and refrain from losing his mind in his rage.
"How can I be at ease, Addie?" Hunter said in frustration, running his hand through his thick mane. "I left you for a few weeks, and they immediately moved against you. How could I leave you alone knowing someone would harm you?"
Adrienne could sense her brother’s frustration lingering in the air. She knew that Hunter had always been protective of her, taking on the role of a pseudo-father figure since their own father seemingly cared more about his illegitimate children than the two of them.
"I understand your anger, Brother," Adrienne replied, her voice wavering slightly. "But their actions were on their own. Father won’t take this lightly; you know how he is."
"What kind of crime did we commit in our past lives for us to have such a useless and foolish father?" Hunter sighed, his anger slowly subsiding as he realized the danger Adrienne had been subjected to. He didn’t know what he could have done if Ares Gu had managed to defile his sister.
"Calm down, brother. Let me deal with it. You only need to focus on how you could return to service. Did Uncle Reese already say when you could return?" Adrienne asked.
"In two months, they expect me to report." Hunter’s face softened, and he took a deep breath to calm himself down. "You have to be more careful in the future, Addie. You’re fortunate Lennox Qin immediately dealt with Ares Gu before that bastard came after you again."
It didn’t take long, and their father arrived the following day to confront Adrienne once the news of Adrienne’s return to the Jiang estate was known. Lewis Jiang didn’t waste his time and went at once, bringing Camilla with him. However, Maryam and Ayla also accompanied them to see how it would end.
Adrienne had just returned from the university after taking her entrance exam. She and Hunter were taking afternoon tea when their relative burst in unwelcomely. Adrienne hid her smile behind her cup and remained calm while Lewis Jiang glared furiously at her.
"Father, what brings you here? You should have sent a prior notice so I can prepare for your grand arrival." Adrienne said this in mockery as she placed her teacup down.
"Adrienne!" Lewis shouted at her, "You evil child. How dare you harm your own sister?!"
He was deeply aware of the plan to set Adrienne up with Ares Gu. By forcing her into marriage with the Gu family, not only would their debts be crossed off, but they would also gain a powerful connection through her marriage. However, who knew that the one who would be in trouble was Elise, his favorite daughter?
The maids who went with his wife and Elise had delivered the news to him, and he couldn’t stop the rage about to burst into his chest. However, this unfilial daughter of his had cunningly chosen to stay at her grandparents’ place, not giving him an opportunity to confront her.
"Yes, Mr. Jiang?" She replied casually, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "I must say, seeing you here is quite a surprise. To what do we owe this unexpected visit?"
Adrienne had grown accustomed to his dramatics over the years, and they no longer affected her as they once did. She maintained her composure and met his gaze head-on.
Lewis clenched his fists, his face turning red with anger.
"Don’t play games with me, Adrienne," he growled. "You know exactly why I’m here."
Adrienne took a sip of her tea, a small smirk playing at the corner of her lips.
"Enlighten me, Mr. Jiang. I seem to have lost track of your reasons for storming into my home without notice."
Her Aunt Maryam stepped forward and said, "Brother Lewis, maybe we should discuss this calmly. There’s no need to create a scene."
Adrienne shot her aunt and Ayla a cold look. She scoffed inwardly. This pair of mother and daughter was really pretentious. Adrienne knew they had only come here to witness how her father rebuked her for hurting her sister.
"You harmed Elise! How could you do it to your sister?!" Lewis exclaimed.
Adrienne gave her a pointed, cold look.
"Mr. Jiang, why are you blaming me for something completely out of my control? In case you are forgetting, that daughter of yours has also tried to harm me, but did you rebuke her as you are doing to me right now? Mr. Jiang should have known the severity of Elise and that woman’s actions against me. I’m also your daughter. What would people think once they find out you are treating me unjustly like this?"
Hunter, who had been observing the situation quietly behind Adrienne, decided to speak up.
"Mr. Jiang, we understand that you’re upset, but blaming Miss Adrienne for what happened to Miss Elise is completely unjustified. It was a terrible thing that occurred, but it wasn’t Miss Adrienne’s fault."
Lewis’s anger intensified as he turned his attention toward Adrienne’s bodyguard.
"And who do you think you are, young man, to speak out of turn?" He bellowed. "You are nothing but a mere bodyguard for my daughter. Don’t you think you have any say in this matter? This is between me and my daughter!"
Hunter’s eyes flashed red. How could he remain silent when witnessing firsthand how their father mistreated his sister? No wonder his sister turned out to be the person she is now. The Jiang family had forced her to become a monster that would eventually destroy them.
