Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Mortimer Quincy is Very Desirable

The girl who looked like a little white rabbit put down her schoolbag. Holding down her skirt as she sat, she glanced at Holly Winslow and then smiled sweetly. "Hi, I’m Valerie Walsh. Are you Mortimer Quincy’s cousin?"

"Mhm." Holly nodded, the straw still in her mouth.

"Holly, don’t nod with the straw in your mouth." Mortimer Quincy’s voice held a mild scolding tone. ’His wife had quite a few bad habits, and he’d been trying to correct them for years to no avail.’

Holly quickly took the straw out of her mouth and shot him a sheepish glance, giggling.

Zeke Zane rubbed his nose. ’How in the world did Mortimer manage to find a girlfriend? He wanted to find one this obedient, too.’

Holly suddenly remembered that the other girl had introduced herself, but she hadn’t. She turned to the rabbit-like girl and said with a wide smile, "Hi, my name is Holly Winslow."

"Can I call you Holly, just like your cousin does?" The timid girl glanced shyly past her toward Mortimer.

’What does she mean, call me Holly just like Mortimer does?’

It belatedly dawned on Holly where she’d heard that voice before. It was the girl who had answered Mortimer’s phone last time.

She glanced at Mortimer and then gave a slight nod.

"Holly, this is for you and your cousin." Val handed over two bottles of water. It was the brand Mortimer usually drank.

The boys in front of them started hooting. Pantheon smirked playfully. "Whoa! Val, how come we don’t get any? No fair! Everyone who’s here should get a share."

Val’s face instantly turned red, and she lowered her head in embarrassment. "I’ll get you guys drinks later."

’Jealousy is making me ugly.’ Holly looked at Mortimer, her eyes giving him a silent warning. "Mortimer, are you going to drink that?"

’His wife looked so damned cute when she glared at him.’

Mortimer couldn’t resist reaching out to pinch her cheek. "I’m not drinking it," he said with a low chuckle.

Holly was satisfied enough with his answer. She then turned to Val and said politely, "Thanks, but my cousin isn’t having any, and neither am I. He just bought me a milk tea." As she spoke, she held up the milk tea in her hand.

Val didn’t insist, instead handing the water to the boys in front. "Here, you guys can have it."

Pantheon took the water and decided to put in a good word for her. "Mortimer, Val is such a great girl. If you miss out on her, you’ll regret it."

Mortimer ignored him.

"Pantheon!" Val, her face beet-red, yelled at him.

Seeing that Mortimer wasn’t talking, Pantheon turned to Holly, taking the opportunity to sneak a few more glances. The more he looked, the prettier she seemed. "His cousin can back me up, right?"

Afraid Pantheon was about to get his ass kicked, Zeke Zane gave his shoulder a shove. "Pantheon, just shut up already. I’m trying to memorize my script, and you won’t stop yapping!"

No one spoke after that. Holly remembered that Mortimer had beef jerky bites in his pocket and reached in to grab a large handful. She first shared them with Mortimer’s classmates.

Then she turned her head to look at Mortimer. "Want one?"

Mortimer lifted his chin slightly, and Holly unwrapped one and popped it into his mouth.

Zeke: "..."

’Fuck, I’ve had more than my fill of this.’

Just then, the judges took their seats. Holly saw a familiar figure: Andre Quincy.

"..."

’No wonder first place gets a five-thousand-yuan prize.’

As soon as it struck two o’clock, the host came on stage to give the opening remarks. "For making this event possible, we would first like to thank Mr. Andre Quincy for his sponsorship, as well as all the participating schools for their enthusiastic support and cooperation..."

Mortimer was the eighth speaker. After the sixth person finished, he took off his jacket and went to the prep area to wait.

Holly tugged on his sleeve, mouthed the word "hubby," and whispered, "Good luck!"

Mortimer let out a low chuckle and reached out to ruffle her hair. "Okay."

As he stood in the prep area, his handsome looks made quite a few girls go, "Wow!" A teacher from the judges’ panel shot a stern look back at them, signaling for quiet.

When he got on stage, Holly took out her phone to record a video. On stage, Mortimer wore a white dress shirt and slacks, his short hair styled in a clean, sharp, layered cut.

’Based on looks alone, Holly would give him a perfect ten.’

Mortimer raised a hand to adjust the microphone, then bowed to the judges’ panel. After straightening up, he began, "Respected leaders, esteemed judges, and fellow students, good afternoon. I am Mortimer Quincy from Jarton High, and the title of my speech is ’Revitalizing the Nation Through Science and Technology’..."

The young man’s diction was clear and his voice was resonant, full of infectious passion. The judges glanced at each other, nodding slightly in approval.

Watching the young man in her video, Holly once again marveled at her dumb luck. She had actually managed to land a guy like him.

’Then again, that guy Mortimer was way too cold and aloof. Only someone as shameless as her could have kept pursuing him.’

When the speech was over, a round of applause erupted. Mortimer bowed in thanks before returning to his seat.

"You were amazing!" Holly leaned close to him, grinning.

Mortimer’s Adam’s apple bobbed. Using the motion of putting on his jacket as cover, he leaned down and stole a quick kiss. "As long as my wife thinks it was amazing," he murmured.

’Zeke felt like he was going to go blind.’

Because Mortimer’s jacket blocked the view, Val didn’t see it.

The speech competition ended at half past three. Mortimer won first place, and the five-thousand-yuan cash prize was now tucked away in Holly’s pocket.

Val followed the two of them out, saying cautiously, "Mortimer, let me treat you two to something to eat."

"No need, but thank you." Mortimer raised a hand to put Holly’s hat on for her, then took her hand and tucked it into his pocket.

At the entrance, Andre Quincy asked Holly and Mortimer, "Do you two want to walk around for a bit, or head home?"

Holly replied obediently, "We’ll go home, Uncle Quincy."

Andre Quincy nodded. "I’ll drive you back."

Andre Quincy’s car was from a niche brand. The Quincy family was actually very low-key; for instance, the judges hadn’t known that Mortimer was Andre Quincy’s son.

Mortimer’s excellence was the result of his own hard work. He hadn’t taken any shortcuts.

After getting home, Holly started packing her clothes and homework. At half past four, Wyatt Winslow came back from the factory to take her to school.

It was already past 5:20 by the time she got to school, so she decided not to go back to her dorm. Carrying her bags, she went straight to her classroom.

There was hardly anyone in the classroom at this time. She sent a message to Iris Kensington and Anna Willow, telling them she was there.

Iris and Anna showed up about ten minutes later.

"Holly, why are you so late today?" Anna Willow handed her a bottle of milk.

Iris Kensington gave her an apple.

"I was watching my cousin’s speech competition. He got first place, you know!" Holly proudly took out her phone to show them the video.

"Whoa!!"

Anna exclaimed excitedly, "Your hot cousin is so handsome!!"

Iris said with a mock-reproachful look, "Holly, why didn’t you invite us?"

Holly poked her arm. "Who ditched who first? Hmph, hmph."

Realizing her mistake, Iris giggled sheepishly and changed the subject. "Your hot cousin looks so lean, I didn’t expect him to have abs."

The white dress shirt was a bit tight, faintly revealing Mortimer’s great physique.

Anna slung her arms around both of their necks with a mischievous grin and whispered, "I hear guys like that are really intense in *that* department."

"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH." Caught completely off guard, Holly choked on her own spit.

Iris blushed, looking like she was dying to know more. "Where did you hear that?"

"I read it in a novel. How did that part go again? Let me think."

Anna thought for a moment, then said excitedly, "The man’s large, well-defined hands unbuttoned his snow-white shirt, revealing a solid chest. The kind of person who just radiates intensity."

"AHHHH!! When I first read that part, it really got to me."

Holly: "..."

’That guy Mortimer... really is pretty intense.’
