Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 154: An Advance Preview of Family Education
Meeting her gaze, Mortimer Quincy took out his phone and sent Anna Willow’s exact words to Zeke Zane.
Zeke Zane was at home, lazing on the couch and watching TV when his phone vibrated. He opened it without thinking. Staring back at him was a single word: "Dumbass..."
When Holly Winslow saw Mortimer Quincy looking at his phone, she instinctively leaned over for a peek. "..."
She shot him a look that said, ’That’s so mean.’
Mortimer Quincy just raised his eyebrows and typed a message on his phone for her to see: *Getting a head start on his marital education.*
Holly Winslow: "..."
She couldn’t help but cough. ’Zeke Zane is going to get chewed out a lot in the future.’
The more Anna Willow thought about it, the more furious she became, gritting her teeth in frustration. If she ever found out who reported her, she’d pay them back tenfold.
’I’ll report them ten times!’
"How could someone be such a scheming bitch! That was my first love!"
Holly Winslow silently corrected her. ’It was two scheming *guys*.’
Brian Willow looked at her disapprovingly and lectured her like a proper older brother. "This is your last year. Focus on your studies. Once you get into college, Mom and Dad won’t care what you do."
He then held up Holly Winslow as an example. "You should learn from Holly. She used to be just like you, and now she’s in the honors class at Jarton High."
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington glanced at Holly Winslow, then at the boyfriend by her side. "..."
’The catch is, you have to get us top-student boyfriends first.’
’Our standards aren’t high. Just find us one who looks like that ’handsome cousin’ of hers.’
’We’d be willing to do math worksheets every single day. No, we’d *gladly* do them!’
Feeling self-conscious under their stares, Holly Winslow rubbed the tip of her nose. She let out a small, unnatural cough and pretended to agree with Brian Willow. "Yep, studying comes first right now."
"Like I’d believe that."
Anna Willow smirked mischievously. A second later, she got a light flick on the forehead from Brian Willow, who chided, "Watch your mouth."
Anna Willow rubbed her head and grumbled, "You’re such a hypocrite. You were allowed to like someone your senior year, so why can’t I?"
Brian Willow instinctively glanced at Holly Winslow before quickly looking away.
Chris Chaucer helped him change the subject. "Weren’t we going to hang out? It’s getting late, let’s get going."
Mortimer Quincy shot Brian Willow a cool glance.
Iris Kensington and Holly Winslow, however, looked at Anna Willow with curiosity, asking who this person was that Brian liked.
Anna Willow shook her head, saying she had no idea.
She truly didn’t know; she had only seen a gift in Brian Willow’s bedroom that had been sitting there for a very long time.
Six people couldn’t fit in one car. Luckily, Brian Willow had a driver’s license and access to a family car, so they split into two groups.
Iris Kensington and Anna Willow wanted to have a private chat with Holly Winslow, so they piled into Mortimer Quincy’s car, leaving Brian Willow and Chris Chaucer to take the other one.
The three girls squeezed into the back seat, chattering away and whispering secrets. Mortimer Quincy vaguely overheard something about "have you kissed yet?" He glanced in the rearview mirror, his eyes landing on the fairest-skinned girl of the three. She was giving her good friend a deviously teasing look.
He didn’t need to hear the rest to know they were discussing topics unsuitable for children but perfectly fine for adults.
A smile touched his lips as he returned his attention to the road.
「In the other car」
Chris Chaucer, sitting in the passenger seat, looked over at Brian Willow in his blue denim jacket. "Still not planning to tell her?"
"I’ll tell her after she graduates." Brian Willow had given it serious thought. Senior year was too important, and he didn’t want to be a distraction for Holly Winslow.
’He just never expected some other guy to have already captured her attention.’
Chris Chaucer said no more on the matter.
...
The group went to an amusement park. Having learned her lesson from last time, Holly Winslow absolutely refused to go on any of the thrill rides.
While Anna Willow and the others went on the giant pendulum ride, she dragged Mortimer Quincy over to the carousel.
At his girlfriend’s insistence, Mortimer Quincy reluctantly climbed onto a childish, pink, floral-patterned horse.
The carousel at Joy Larkin was designed for children under fifteen, so one can only imagine how "quaint" the horses were.
Holly Winslow was on a horse slightly behind him in the same row. Seeing the nearly six-foot-tall guy perched on the wooden horse, she was doubled over with laughter.
"Funny, is it?"
Mortimer Quincy leaned over and stole a kiss, then gave her a triumphant wink.
Holly Winslow blushed and didn’t dare to meet anyone’s gaze.
’Damn you, Mortimer Quincy,’ she thought. ’Always stealing kisses.’
Mortimer Quincy let out a series of low, magnetic chuckles that sounded crisp and clear.
"Mommy, I wanna go on this one!" a little girl, about four or five years old, whined to the middle-aged woman beside her, begging to ride the carousel.
"No, honey. You won’t be able to sit securely," the woman explained.
The small-town carousel had a weight limit: riders couldn’t be over 130 jin.
The woman was on the heavier side, likely weighing more than 130 jin.
The ride hadn’t started yet. Seeing how upset the child was, Holly Winslow hesitated for a moment before offering, "Ma’am, she can ride with me."
The woman’s face lit up. "Oh, thank you so much! Fifi, you’re not to fidget up there, you hear? Sit nicely with the young lady."
Fifi stopped whining and nodded obediently. Once her mother lifted her onto the horse, she turned to Holly Winslow and said, "Thank you, miss."
The little girl was chubby and quite cute. Holly Winslow smiled sweetly. "You’re welcome."
She looked up to see Mortimer Quincy pointing his phone at her, taking a picture. She gave him a playful, "ferocious" snarl.
Mortimer Quincy chuckled and pocketed his phone. ’Damn,’ he thought, ’all of a sudden, I really want to have a kid.’
The carousel picked up a little speed, rising and falling gently. Fifi was beaming, and Holly Winslow, with both hands protectively around the little girl, smiled until her eyes curved into crescents.
Suddenly, Mortimer Quincy, who was in front of her, turned his head and called out, "Holly."
Before Holly Winslow could reply, his deep, magnetic voice continued, "Let’s have a daughter."
Holly Winslow choked on a laugh. "COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."
She glared at the culprit ahead of her. "You have one yourself."
Mortimer Quincy tilted his head and arched an eyebrow. "I can’t. I can only help you *get* pregnant."
Holly Winslow: "..."
’Get pregnant, my ass.’
She decided to ignore him.
The carousel ride was five minutes long, while the pendulum ride was only three and a half. By the time Anna Willow’s group got off, Holly and Mortimer were still on the carousel.
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington were watching and chatting. After sighing over the "handsome cousin’s" good looks again, Anna Willow wondered aloud, "Where’d Holly get that kid? Don’t tell me it’s her secret love child!"
This was a common trope in web novels, where the female protagonist would disappear for a few years only to return with a genius child in tow.
Iris Kensington caught on immediately and burst out laughing, nodding along. "Probably! She’s been hiding it from us this whole time. We’ll have to interrogate her later."
Hearing a couple of seventeen and eighteen-year-old girls discussing such things in public gave Brian Willow and Chris Chaucer a headache. Chris Chaucer pulled Iris Kensington’s arm. "Ellie, you can’t say things like that."
Iris Kensington got a little upset and grumbled, "It’s not like I murdered someone or set a fire. Why can’t I talk about it?"
Chris Chaucer was at a loss for what to do with her, so he just stood there silently.
Anna Willow got a sharp look from her brother and sheepishly rubbed her nose.
A short while later, Holly Winslow noticed the atmosphere between Iris Kensington and Chris Chaucer felt a little off. She leaned close to Iris Kensington and whispered, "What’s wrong? Did you two get in a fight?"
Iris Kensington hummed sullenly in confirmation, then declared with an air of indignation, "He’s always policing what I say. ’You can’t say this, you can’t say that.’ I’ve spent so much money reading novels; it would be a total waste if I didn’t put what I’ve learned to use."
Holly Winslow and Anna Willow: "..."
When she put it like that, it almost made sense.
