Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 105: How Could My Wife Not Be Good-Looking?
Wyatt Winslow had called at noon to say Walter Winslow and Joanna Sawyer were coming over that afternoon, straight to the house.
Outside the Winslows’ home.
While fumbling for her keys, Holly Winslow whispered to Mortimer Quincy, "Honey, you should go home. I’ll call you tonight."
Mortimer Quincy mimicked her, whispering back, "Okay, go on in." As he spoke, he pinched her cheek. It felt nice and chubby.
He bent down, offering his cheek. "Honey, how about a goodbye kiss?"
"No way," Holly Winslow pouted, giving him a light push. "If someone sees, I’m dead meat."
Hearing her use that bit of slang, "dead meat," Mortimer Quincy couldn’t help but chuckle. He patted her head fondly. "What do you mean, dead? Don’t be silly."
"What are you two doing, standing at the door?" Wyatt Winslow’s lips were pressed into a thin line as he watched them from the stairwell, his face stern.
His sudden voice made them both jump, and Mortimer Quincy’s hand flinched.
Holly Winslow looked toward the stairwell at Wyatt Winslow, who was carrying groceries, and said sheepishly, "Dad, you went grocery shopping? I thought you were already home."
’So if I were home, this would be acceptable right outside the door?’
Wyatt Winslow felt a headache coming on, his expression growing even more stern.
Mortimer Quincy pulled his hand back and coughed, not daring to meet the other man’s eyes. "Uncle Winslow."
Wyatt Winslow’s lips tightened. After a good ten seconds, he took out his keys and opened the door. "Inside. And in the future... no more of that."
Holly Winslow rubbed her nose and nodded meekly.
Mortimer Quincy nodded along. "Ahem, Uncle Winslow, I’ll head home now."
After Mortimer Quincy left, Wyatt Winslow and Holly Winslow went inside.
Watching Holly squatting to change her shoes, Wyatt Winslow pressed his lips together again. "Holly, have you two done anything out of line?"
Holly Winslow choked on her saliva and coughed a few times. "Dad, no! Mortimer is very proper."
’Aside from the kissing and hugging, he’s very proper.’
"Mm." Wyatt Winslow’s expression softened slightly. He added, "Holly, don’t think I’m being too meddlesome. I just don’t want you to go down the wrong path. Once you’re in college, I won’t get involved in your business."
Ever since Holly Winslow had shared her true feelings, he’d realized his approach to parenting wasn’t quite right. He needed to communicate with his daughter more.
The previous Holly Winslow had lacked the patience to understand Wyatt Winslow, which was why the two had been like enemies in her past life. That was her biggest regret.
She looked straight up at him and said with earnest conviction, "Dad, I won’t get annoyed. I’ll never get annoyed. In fact, I wish you’d watch over me forever. That way, I can be your little princess for my whole life."
She giggled and added coaxingly, "Dad, please look after me forever."
Wyatt Winslow adjusted his glasses and grunted his usual "Mm." "Go call your grandfather and ask where they are."
He carried the groceries into the kitchen. Staring at a pot, he suddenly smiled.
’Holly, Dad will look after you forever.’
After calling Walter Winslow, Holly ran into the kitchen—THUMP THUMP THUMP. "Dad, Grandpa says they’re only one or two stops away! I’m going to the entrance of the complex to meet them."
...
Just as Holly Winslow reached the entrance to the residential complex, Walter Winslow and Joan Sawyer were getting out of a car. Holly ran over and threw her arms around Joan Sawyer. "Grandpa! Grandma!"
Joan Sawyer patted her head happily. "Our Holly’s gotten a little taller and has filled out a bit. And you’re getting sweeter all the time."
"Hehe, Dad’s been feeding me well." Holly Winslow took the bags from their hands, and the three of them walked home, chatting along the way.
Hearing the door open, Wyatt Winslow came out from the kitchen. "Dad. Mom."
Walter Winslow just snorted, ignored him, and went straight to the living room to sit down.
Joan Sawyer smiled and whispered to Wyatt Winslow, "Go pour your dad a small glass of liquor."
Wyatt Winslow went to the kitchen, poured the liquor, and placed it in front of Walter Winslow. "Here you go, Dad."
Walter Winslow shot him a grumpy look. "I was starting to think you’d forgotten all about your old man, not even visiting once a month."
"The factory’s been expanding lately, Dad. It’s been a bit hectic," Wyatt Winslow explained.
"Busy, busy, busy. Always busy. If you ask me, you should just shut down the factory. It’s not like the family is short on money." Walter Winslow glanced at his son’s hair. Seeing a few gray strands, he felt a pang of bitterness.
Wyatt Winslow remained silent.
"Alright, that’s enough out of you." Joan Sawyer gave Walter Winslow a look, then added, "Dex has been looking much healthier lately."
Wyatt Winslow’s health and spirits were indeed much better than before.
This put her mind at ease.
"Okay, Mom, Dad. I’m going to make dinner. You two relax for a bit." Wyatt Winslow then went into the kitchen.
Joan Sawyer and Holly Winslow went in to help.
Hearing laughter from the kitchen, Walter Winslow went in too. Holly Winslow was in the middle of telling a story about school.
Remembering something, he asked curiously, "I heard Miles got first in his grade again?"
Holly Winslow nodded, a hint of pride in her voice. "Mortimer is number one in the grade for every single exam."
"That kid’s a real genius when it comes to studying. He’s got a bright future ahead of him," Walter Winslow praised.
"Grandpa, I’m impressive too! I ranked third in our grade and got a perfect score on the English exam!" Holly Winslow bragged, shaking her head like a proud little kid.
Walter Winslow patted her head affectionately. "Of course our Holly is impressive. She’s even going to be on TV! Much more accomplished than her father. Later, Grandpa will give you a thousand as a reward."
"Thanks, Grandpa!" Holly Winslow glanced at Wyatt Winslow and added, "But Grandpa, Dad is really capable too, you know."
"Alright, alright, our Holly’s taking her dad’s side now," Walter Winslow boomed with a happy "HA HA!"
Holly had told Wyatt Winslow about her TV appearance on the day she found out. Since he wanted to be more involved in her life, she was making an effort to share things with him.
...
On Saturday, just before eight o’clock, the entire Winslow family was gathered in front of the television. It was tuned to the Jarton County channel, which was currently playing commercials.
Just as Holly Winslow was worrying she wouldn’t look good on camera, Mortimer Quincy sent her a photo. The Quincy family was gathered in front of their TV too, and there were about fifteen or twenty of them.
Unlike the small Winslow family, the Quincy family was large. Andre Quincy alone had four siblings, and most importantly, the whole family was very close-knit.
In her past life, when she had married Mortimer Quincy, the Quincy family had all adored her. Whenever there was anything good, they would always set a portion aside for her.
Mortimer Quincy sent another message right after: "Grandpa says he wants to see his future granddaughter-in-law."
Holly Winslow snuck a glance at Wyatt Winslow and her grandparents, then secretly texted back: "Honey, what if I look bad on camera?"
Leaning back on his sofa, Mortimer Quincy let out a low chuckle and replied: "Is it even possible for my wife to not look good?"
Just then, it turned eight o’clock.
A voice came from the television: "Welcome to Jarton County TV..."
A few minutes later, the photo from Mortimer Quincy’s student ID appeared on the screen. The host began listing his many past awards. They didn’t go through the whole list; after mentioning a dozen or so, they simply added, "...and over forty other awards."
"That Miles is really something else. No wonder his grandpa boasts about him wherever he goes."
Walter Winslow’s tone was full of fondness. He then turned to Wyatt Winslow. "See? I wasn’t lying. That boy is genuinely outstanding. Our Holly has good taste."
Although Wyatt Winslow had tacitly accepted Mortimer Quincy, he was far from ready to encourage his daughter’s romance. "Dad."
"Don’t you ’Dad’ me!"
Walter Winslow knew exactly what his son was thinking. He shot him an annoyed glare and said, "The two of them aren’t letting it affect their studies. They’re in a proper relationship, not doing anything shameful."
Wyatt Winslow pressed his lips together, offering no rebuttal. It was true that Holly Winslow’s grades had been steadily improving.
Joan Sawyer glanced at the father and son, who couldn’t seem to go three sentences without bickering. She shoved an apple into Walter Winslow’s hand, signaling for him to just be quiet.
When it was Holly Winslow’s turn, Walter Winslow pulled out his phone and handed it to Wyatt. "Record this for me. I need something to show off later—that my Holly was on TV!"
