Reborn to Redeem: Their Abusive Love-Chapter 127: Add more
Ruins and the smell of gunpowder were everywhere. The people outside were only sparing this research facility because they were concerned about the leader locked up inside.
The man hiding in the corner swallowed hard, his complexion shifting from pale to green, then to red. His eyes, fixated on the two individuals, were as dark and unyielding as a sewage ditch. Teeth clenched tight and fingers trembling against the wall, he wanted to escape, but with no way out behind him, he finally emerged from the corner, begrudgingly squeezing out, "Wasn’t there a deal? 0001, using military force against my small outpost, don’t you think that’s a bit stupid?"
Pei Zhen casually adjusted the chain on his hand, his expression slightly hesitant. Then, he looked at the man with a mixture of surprise and annoyance, as if seeing a ghost. "You kidnapped my person, I blasted through your base. That’s not too extreme, is it? Hand over the key."
"Subject 0001, the X organization won’t let you go. The success rate of the Giant Potion has already increased. On average, for every seven subjects that die and five or more that mutate with extra limbs, one giant is produced."
Although Manager No. 26 was smiling, sweat beaded on his forehead. His eyes were red as he stiffly pulled a key from his sleeve and silently moved closer, unlocking the chains on Pei Zhen’s wrists.
The chain was heavy. Once freed, it slid down, hitting the ground with a loud THUD and stirring up dust.
Pei Zhen twisted his wrists, his face devoid of fear. He turned his head directly, a fleeting coldness in those divine eyes. "Fine. Go back and tell him I’m waiting for him to come find me."
"I’m going back to tell him? You’re not going to kill me?" Manager No. 26 couldn’t believe his ears. He said provocatively, his voice hoarse, "It was I who chose you from Gambling City and brought you into the X organization. Are you grateful that I gave you the opportunity for the X organization to create you? In that case, you should..."
The next second, his neck was seized.
Two long fingers pressed viciously against his carotid artery, easily lifting him. His back scraped against the coarse wall as he was slowly lifted, his legs dangling just ten centimeters from the tiles, unable to touch solid ground, like a marionette.
His face turned an unsightly hue, his eyes wide as he stared at the silver-haired man before him.
The corridor was deathly silent and dark. Pei Zhen’s face was obscured by shadows, every muscle in his body tensed with the action. His eyelids drooped, his smoke-grey pupils utterly devoid of any hint of a smile, filled only with irritability and menace. His voice was unspeakably cruel and cold. "Don’t remind me. Are you blind, or do you just want to die that badly?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"...0...001!" The man was being strangled to the point he couldn’t form complete words.
In this corridor, infamous for its heinous experiments, Pei Zhen tilted his head back, suppressing the madness and hostility in his eyes. He tightened his fingers a fraction more, as if intending to dig them deep into the man’s carotid artery.
Suddenly, he seemed to remember something—the softest breathing reached his ears.
He knitted his brow, suppressing the frenzied urge to kill welling up inside him. His gaze fixed on the man before him, thick with disgust and disdain. "Disgusting. You’ve made my hands filthy."
His long fingers splayed and fell.
The man slumped to the ground like a heap of mud. Having brushed with death, he hunched over, leaning against the wall and coughing violently, his malevolent eyes continuously sweeping over Pei Zhen and Xu Si.
Xu Si listened quietly to their conversation, not saying a word even when Pei Zhen made his move.
She had never experienced such rotten, festering lives; she found it incredible just hearing how they addressed one another. Within the X organization, there were no names, only the stark roles of managers and experimental subjects. What kind of organization was this, really? What was the purpose of such an organization existing in this world? She wasn’t part of it. She couldn’t see clearly. But whatever Pei Zhen wanted to do, she probably wouldn’t stop him. She couldn’t expect someone who had crawled out of evil to have perfectly clean hands. Moreover, often, the only thing that can suppress evil is evil itself. These scoundrels from the X organization, all steeped in sin, had injected Pei Zhen with countless depraved concoctions, creating numerous half-dead beings, yet they remained self-satisfied. They truly got what they deserved.
But the fact that Pei Zhen hadn’t killed him was quite beyond Xu Si’s expectations.
She listened to the slow, regular footsteps approaching.
Xu Si stared at the yellowing whites of the man’s eyes, a sense of disgust welling up inside her. She patted Pei Zhen’s shoulder, her voice light but still audible, "Azhen, put me down. I have something to do."
The footsteps suddenly stopped.
Pei Zhen turned his head to look at her directly. He watched as she struggled to get down from his arms, panting even from such a slight movement.
"He bullied you, didn’t he? And killed a lot of people?" Xu Si asked.
Pei Zhen’s eyelashes lowered. The events of the Underground City didn’t really count as bullying; it was, after all, a place built upon sin. Yet, his eyes glinted with a hint of amusement, and a faint, almost imperceptible smile touched the corner of his lips as he said lightly, "Yes, he bullied me. And he killed many people."
Xu Si was wearing a black leather coat today. Even after inhaling the drug, her spine had not bent. Upon hearing his words, her gaze abruptly turned cold. She lowered her head and drew the gun hidden at her waist, an unprecedented darkness in her eyes. "Then I’ll have no psychological burden."
She aimed the gun at the man’s hand and then his foot, firing once at each. Her technique wasn’t precise, but her actions were decisive, though she lacked strength. After two shots, her arm trembled, unable to hold the gun any longer, and she let it fall to the ground.
Once certain he couldn’t move, she steadied herself against the wall and slowly walked over to him, sighing. "I’m afraid you’ll move and scare me, so just bear with it."
Having said that, she shamelessly reached out to search his clothes. From a hidden pocket in his sleeve, she pulled out a small bottle of red capsules and a small sliding tin box of tablets.
Coming here... this was one of her objectives. Her judgment had been very accurate; this medicine was indeed on him.
The air seemed to flow a little more freely, feeling a bit richer in oxygen.
"It’s here," she murmured, a slight curve to her lips. Holding both the bottle and the tablets in her palm, she pushed herself to stand, feeling as though she had gone through a strenuous workout—drenched in sweat and utterly exhausted.
The X organization really was something. Their vile concoctions were endless, their effects undiminished by time.
After walking over to Pei Zhen, she gently placed the medicines from her palm into his. Her voice was even and cool, softly suppressing her usual sharpness and aloofness, lending a hint of gentleness to her tone. "Here. See which of these you need."
This journey had come at a great cost; she couldn’t return empty-handed. She didn’t know why, but based on a faint fondness and liking from the bottom of her heart, she always wanted to treat him a little better. Emotions... they truly were terrifying things, a paradox that destroyed rationality.
She didn’t look at Pei Zhen’s expression as she bent down to pick up the gun.
However, at this moment, an overwhelming darkness seemed to envelop everything.
Pei Zhen caressed the medicine bottle, now bearing her fingerprints, his divinely handsome face fixed on her solitary silhouette.
His lips curled into a smile.
