Reborn: The Tyrant's Obsession-Chapter 334: A loving couple
Ella turned to Adrian, "Go ahead with the race, baby. I am counting on you to win."
Adrian’s lashes lowered when she pulled her hand out of his grip.
But in the next moment, right in front of everyone, Ella wrapped her arms around his neck.
Then, she stood on her tiptoes and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.
Adrian was stunned for a moment. In the next moment, he felt the girl leaning in towards him as she whispered in his ear, "Your good luck charm."
As Ella pulled back from Adrian, something glinted in his dark eyes. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulled her forward and kissed her forehead.
The smile on Lilith’s face wavered.
Ronan and Kade cringed, "This dogfood was so unwanted!"
"Truly a loving couple that makes everyone envious," Luca said.
Kade raised a hand, "Brother, Ruby and I will stay with Ella so you don’t need to worry."
Ruby gave a small nod, quietly agreeing to Kade.
Ella turned to Adrian, "See, I even got some company."
Adrian’s gaze lingered on her face for a long moment before he finally turned to leave. Only then did he disappear behind the distant stables.
When he came back, Ella almost forgot how to breathe. Adrian had changed out of his suit and now...
The man wore a fitted black riding jacket, gloves, boots, and a faint sheen of leather glistened under the sun.
She had never seen him in such an outfit before, and her eyes sparkled without restraint.
Kade chuckled when he noticed the look on her face, "My brother is stunning, isn’t he?"
Ella sighed dreamily, "He sure is..."
Clearly not expecting such an unabashed response, Kade cringed and turned to Ruby who just shrugged simply.
Adrian felt Ella’s burning gaze on him and halted in his tracks, his lips hooked up in a hint of a smile as he looked over at her.
Ella’s heart skipped a beat and for a moment, she felt like averting her gaze. Yet, she did not break the eye-contact.
But neither did Adrian. It seemed like he refused to look away from her unless she looked away first.
From the corner of her eyes, Ella saw that Ronan and Luca were already mounted on their horses.
But Adrian was standing still in his spot, looking into her eyes as if he was looking at the eighth wonder of the world.
Two faint clouds of pink emerged on Ella’s face. She coughed lightly and averted her gaze.
The small arc on Adrian’s lips widened slightly before he mounted the horse finally.
At that moment, Lilith brushed past with an air of elegance. Her gaze flickered briefly at the trainer standing beside Ella’s white horse before she approached the brown horse beside Adrian’s.
Soon after, the race began. Adrian, Ronan, Luca, and Lilith thundered forward on their horses, the dust rising behind them as they vanished toward a finish line Ella couldn’t even see from where she stood.
"Since we can’t watch from here, why don’t we start too?" Kade suggested, already pulling Ruby toward the dark brown mare he had chosen for her.
Ruby climbed on quickly, following Kade’s instructions as they did a few rounds.
And to Ella’s surprise, within minutes she was riding as though she’d been doing it all her life. Even Kade looked impressed.
Meanwhile, Ella walked to the white horse as she examined it closely. Up so close, it looked even prettier, "Has it always been this gentle?"
The trainer smiled, "Yes, just like his mother."
"His mother?"
The trainer nodded as he spoke, "She passed away a few years ago. My grandfather used to tell me that back in the days, the second master wasn’t keen on horse-riding so the first master picked the gentlest horse for him... Ah, I misspoke."
Ella paused. Adrian’s elder brother?
It seemed like they shared a deep bond.
No wonder Adrian looked at the horse with such a gaze just then.
A gentle smile rose on Ella’s face, unbeknownst to even herself.
"Miss Yu, do you want to try?" The trainer stepped forward in a bowing gesture.
Ella placed her palm against the white horse’s mane and chuckled softly. The horse gave a low snort and leaned into her touch, almost as if he liked her already.
Taking advantage of her ease, the trainer helped her climb on. He led the horse slowly in a circle around the ground.
Ella’s tense shoulders relaxed bit by bit.
From an angle Ella couldn’t see, the trainer reached back, rubbing the horse’s back. His sleeve slipped just enough to reveal a glint.
’Neigh’
The animal gave a violent jolt, startled, but before anyone else reacted, Ella bent low, patting the horse’s neck firmly as she usually did with Riri and Lala.
Her calm voice poured out naturally, "Easy... it’s okay..."
Amazingly, within seconds, the horse quieted down again.
The trainer frowned for a moment before he spoke with a smile, "It seems like Miss Yu has already gotten a hang of it. You can now proceed with a short round by yourself."
As he spoke, he began to release the reins.
Ella’s eyes narrowed slightly, "No, don’t..."
But it was too late. His hand was already gone.
A shiver of dread ran down her spine.
And then, as if her fear had summoned it, the horse’s entire body snapped taut. Its eyes went wild and glassy.
The next second—
The horse bolted.
Ella’s stomach dropped like a stone.
She tightened her grip on the reins until her palms burned and the leather bit into her skin.
From the corner of her eye she saw some movements. Adrian’s grandparents rose to their feet, faces slack with alarm.
And somewhere behind her, Ruby and Kade were shouting, but the sound blurred into a long, thin hum.
Everything narrowed to the animal beneath her and its sudden, savage rhythm.
The white horse lunged forward. It tore past the training ring and into the strip of trees she had thought were just decoration surrounding the training grounds.
But at this moment, Ella realized that it wasn’t a hedge at all but a real stretch of woods.
Sunlight fractured into green shafts between trunks.
"Ah..." Ella lowered her body onto the horse as branches slapped at her face.
The scent of wet earth hit her like a wave, and fear moved through her so hot she could barely taste air.
Inhaling a deep breath, she made an instant decision. She needed to jump off the horse at any cost!
Ella immediately scanned for a place to jump until she spotted it, a muddy patch ahead, a little to the right.
If she could time it, she might survive this.
But she also had a feeling that if she made one wrong slip then she would not stand up again.
Ella sucked in a shaky breath and slid her weight carefully.
"Almost there... Almost there..." Ella gritted her teeth as she whispered under her breath, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Just as she almost jumped, the horse reared and kicked out its hind legs.
The rein looped and snagged, her foot caught and her short hair nearly grazed the rocky ground.
For a terrible heartbeat she hung half out of the saddle as her body tipped toward the ground.
The horse spun wildly again and Ella’s breath caught.
She thought she was about to die but just then, suddenly—
Her body moved.
She hooked a hand on the mane, swung a leg in a long arc, threw her whole weight forward and up in one brutal, clean motion.
She hauled herself back into position and sat squarely in the saddle.
For the blink it took her to catch a breath, she simply stared at her own hands.
"What was that..."
The movement just now had been so precise and practiced. But she has never ridden a horse before nor has she ever learnt martial arts yet...
Her body had reacted so flexibly as if on instinct.
’Neigh’
At the sound of the horse, Ella inhaled another deep breath.
The horse screamed again, bolted in a tight, furious circle, and then, with a mad surge, shot toward the road at the end of the woods.
Through the thinning trees, Ella could see the vehicles.
The skies had darkened and at this point, Ella couldn’t tell how long she had been here for.
Her throat closed and for some reason Adrian’s face flashed in front of her face.
Then, a streak of determination flashed in her eyes.
