Reborn: The Tyrant's Obsession-Chapter 239: Is Adrian here?
The car rolled out of the Eve Mansion gates at a normal pace, to not arouse the servants’ suspicion.
But by the time they reached the front driveway, Ji Yan’s car was already gone.
"Where now?" Ruby asked.
"Maple Cross," Ella responded without hesitation.
Ruby swerved into the main road, weaving through traffic as they headed toward the junction.
Meanwhile, Ella’s mind was ticking like a second-hand clock.
Earlier, when she had called Ji Yan to ask for bodyguards, she had tried to tap Ji Yan’s phone during the call. But the man was fast enough to respond and cut off all the connection.
However, before the connection went off, one street popped up repeatedly, catching Ella’s attention—Maple Cross.
And if she was right and Ji Yan did pass by that road then...
Ella’s gaze flicked up ahead.
Ji Yan will have no choice but to slow down, given that the road should be a traffic nightmare around this time. He would be stuck there for at least about 15 minutes.
Seeing the solemn look on Ella’s face, Ruby spoke up, "Sit tight."
In the next moment, the flashy red sports car cut through the crowd with precise movements, moving in a blur.
"We are here..." Ruby slowed the car as they rolled into the intersection.
Ella leaned forward slightly. Her eyes scanned the line of cars until—
"There," she pointed. "Black SUV, tinted windows. Three cars up."
"Alright."
On the other side...
Inside the black SUV, Ji Yan’s phone buzzed suddenly.
An ominous feeling rose in his chest when he saw the caller ID, "Bertha, is everything alright with Miss Yu?"
"Secretary Ji, I have just called to report that Miss Yu and Miss Ambrose said they’re heading out for a long drive."
Ji Yan’s fingers froze over the wheel.
Instinctively, his eyes darted to the rearview mirror.
And sure enough—
A familiar limited edition blazing red sports car caught his attention.
Without wasting another second, Ji Yan took the next sharp turn, detouring through a narrow lane.
...
"He noticed us," Ruby muttered, hands tightening on the steering wheel.
"Be careful," Ella whispered as her eyes trailed Ji Yan’s car.
The man fluidly cut through the streets just like the last time.
The only difference was that last time, the driver from the Eve Mansion lost sight of Ji Yan in two alleys.
Yet, Ruby did not seem to slow down in the slightest.
She made a clean turn, slipping the car through two honking sedans, effortlessly catching up.
Every swerve Ji Yan made, Ruby matched.
Ella gripped the door handle as Ruby curved through alleyways and sudden exits.
As calm as she looked from the outside, her mind was in chaos.
Ella couldn’t understand it... What is Ji Yan trying to hide so desperately?
...
After nearly fifteen minutes of weaving in and out of roads, Ji Yan made one last risky maneuver, an off-track road cutting through a row of trees.
He glanced behind him. There was no red car.
He exhaled slowly, finally pulling into the narrow, gated property hidden between forested walls.
Ji Yan stepped out, glancing around one last time. Then, wiping the sweat from his brow, he walked toward the main door.
"That was scary," he muttered to himself. "How did they even—"
Ji Yan froze suddenly as the sound of heels reverberated behind him.
Then—
"What was scary, Secretary Ji?" Ella’s honeyed voice sent goosebumps down the man’s body.
Before Ji Yan could recover his senses, Ella walked past him, followed by Ruby.
The moment both the girls crossed the main door, Ji Yan snapped out of his shock, "Wait! Miss Yu, you can’t go in there..."
"Oh? Will you stop me?" Ella’s gaze traced over the lavish condominium, dark and gloomy.
Adrian was still staying in Country A to spend some time with his mother, which was highly unlikely given the nature of their relationship.
Ella was unsure about the things. But she could not stop the uneasiness inside her.
Wherever Adrian was, she needed to see him or talk to him.
At this point, only that would calm her nerves.
"Miss Yu, this isn’t appropriate..." Ji Yan blocked Ella’s path.
"I don’t see what’s inappropriate here," Unbothered by it, Ella scanned every little thing in the living room, looking for any signs of Adrian.
’Click’
Suddenly, the door of one of the bedrooms on the ground floor opened.
"It is very inappropriate because you are invading a private property," Ronan let the door close behind him.
Ruby stiffened. From the spot where she stood, she couldn’t see the man and neither could he see her. But the familiar voice... made her brain halt.
When Ronan took a step forward, he caught a proper look at Ella and burst out in laughter, "What even happened to your hair? You didn’t look very pleasant before but now you look like a witch who has sacrificed her hair for a blood ritual."
Ella stopped scanning the living room
She turned to look at the man who was approaching her, "Commenting on a woman’s appearance is not the trait of a gentleman."
"A gentleman? Pfft. Who told you I was..." Ronan froze in his tracks when he crossed the staircase and saw Ruby, standing right next to Ella, "Ofcourse, I am a gentleman."
Ji Yan: "_"
"Is he here?" Ella did not beat around the bush as she looked at Ronan.
"I don’t know what you are talking about. And regardless of anything, don’t you think you should apologize for barging in here like this?"
"I will apologize to you if you answer my question."
Ronan crossed his arms in front of his chest.
"Unless... Is there something unspeakable going on here? Why would Secretary Ji need to sneak around to get into your place?"
"What do you mean... unspeakable?" Ronan stole a quick glance at Ruby before he spoke, "You should know half of the patients that I am responsible for. Naturally, Ji Yan is here to be updated about their health condition."
Ella lowered her gaze.
