Chapter 187: She didn’t want him?

In room no 8.

Adrian’s bid had not only shocked the public but the people in the room too.

Lilith looked at him with a hint of surprise while Ji Yan had his mouth agape, looking completely disgraceful.

Adrian had not used the mic, not opened his eyes, yet his bid had caused the biggest impact of the night.

"Ace, you don’t have to..."

At this moment, Adrian’s eyes cracked open. Like a beast stirring from his slumber, he looked ahead with narrowed eyes.

Even when he had his eyes closed, he looked magnificent. But when he opened the pair of onyx eyes, it seemed like the entire world could be contained within them.

Lilith held her breath, losing the track of her thoughts momentarily.

"Second Master..."

"Get it sent to the Eve Mansion."

Adrian rose to his feet and in a few large strides, he stepped out of the room.

Hearing his words, Ji Yan was stunned. After a moment, he turned to Lilith and bowed his head, "Miss Quinn, please take care."

Lilith sat in the empty room, her thoughts gradually stilling.

’Knock knock’

"Esteemed guest, here are your beautifying pills," The staff carefully placed the jade case on the table before retreating from the room.

’Crash’

A hand swept the jade, sending it shattering across the room.

Lilith glanced at her trembling fingers in a daze.

At this moment, there were sounds of approaching footsteps.

"Leave." Lilith whispered, her head lowered.

The sound did not stop. The person kept approaching.

"I said leave!" Lilith looked up, her eyes red.

"I left you alone for a moment and this is what you have turned yourself into," Lilith’s secretary and friend, Eli shook his head slowly.

Lilith pursed her lips, holding back her tears.

In the next moment, a shadow towered over her as Eli held her in his arms. "You were not interested in that painting. You wanted it because she wanted it."

Lilith sucked a shuddering breath, "It was a whim... But so what? Did you see what he did? He brought it for her. He outbid me to buy that trivial thing for her!"

"I was the one by his side all these years. I was the one sitting in the same room with him tonight. Yet, he chose her. Why?!" She panted, her voice breaking.

Eli looked at the woman who was trembling in his arms. After a moment of silence, he closed his eyes and pulled back from her.

"Don’t you know what use she has of that painting?" Eli paused, "In fact, what I got to know might uplift your mood."

As he leaned forward to whisper something against her ears, Lilith paused, "Really?"

Eli arched a brow, "Won’t you like to see it for yourself?"

After a moment, Lilith leaned back against the couch, "It’s going to be a good show..." her gaze swept across the beautifying pills that had fallen on the floor, "Collect those. I should save them for the person I brought them for."

’’So petty,’’ Eli flashed an indulgent smile.

"Didn’t you say can’t come along with me because you have things to do?" Lilith propped her forehead on her fist as she watched the man gathering the pills, "How did you end up at the auction then?"

Eli paused, "I was worried of something like this happening so I had to come back to check on you."

...

Ella walked out of the auction house and got into a cab. Once she reached the hotel, she yanked the mask off her face. fгeewebnovёl.com

By the moment she reached the hotel room, she had given herself enough pep talk to regain her composure.

As Ella stepped inside the room, she kicked the door close. But the door did not ’click’.

Ella had barely let out a breath before she stiffened, feeling another presence behind her.

As she turned around, Adrian, who had grabbed the door, pushed it open and stepped inside.

Ella gave him a fleeting look, taking in his sickly appearance. He looked paler than the last time she saw him.

Earlier, she had seen him from a distance so she had not noticed but even the green lines under his eyes seemed more prominent. His eyes had a hint of red in them and one could see the veins popping on his forehead.

The moment he took a step closer to her, she snapped out of her reverie and took a step back.

In the next second, the room chilled. There was a feverish red in Adrian’s eyes, like a demon on the edge of collapse. It made him look like a half-demon, alluring yet deadly.

"Come here," his deep voice sounded in the room before a hand reached out towards her.

Ella looked at his hand barely for a moment before she averted her gaze.

"Ella."

Ella flinched by the harshness of his tone. This was probably the first time in this life he had called her ’Ella’ and not ’Elle’ with such a tone.

Adrian looked at her, his head throbbing mildly, his hand still outstretched.

But the girl did not budge from her spot. The tip of her nose had reddened but with a defiant look on her face, she continued stepping away from him.

Adrian stepped towards her.

"Don’t come any closer! I don’t want you here," Ella rushed to speak.

Adrian halted in his tracks, his dysfunctional brain picking on the specific words.

’Don’t come closer’

’I don’t want you here’

Something tugged at his heart and a hint of breathlessness consumed him.

His hand fell limp as he yanked at his tie, like he couldn’t breathe.

"You have been ignoring me for days now. I don’t see the reason why you need to..." Ella pointed at the distance between them, "...be here at this moment."

Adrian closed his eyes, controlling the dull ache growing in his chest.

"Are you running out of patience now? Getting frustrated? Or are you thinking of locking me up again? You—"

"I did not." He cut her off harshly.

Ella glanced up at him.

"I will not do that,’’ he rasped, his voice softer, more resigned than before.
