Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1256: Old is gold
"Of course it’s there, it was your favorite game, after all," Nana chuckled. "I kept all your things neat and tidy."
"That’s my drawing book!" Shui grabbed a book that held little scribblings on its page, which she couldn’t be too sure if she was the culprit behind these chaotic art work.
"I have all your drawing books here," Xinyi beamed, digging out more of such binders. "There’s the one with Siying’s collection as well."
"Mom, why are those blasphemous still there?" Siying was speechless. "I thought they were all thrown away."
"How could I throw them away?" She gasped. "They are our precious memories!"
"Also cute and adorable," Caihong and Serena took some of their childhood clothes.
Yunru blushed hard. "Mom, why is that tomato outfit still there!"
"What do you mean?" Serena pouted. "Didn’t you play the role of a cute tomato in that play you were a part of in first grade? I have all the pictures and videos too!"
"..."
Chyou and her brother, Xiang, jumped at once upon seeing Caihong reveal some of the most embarrassing and dark histories of their past.
"Mom!"
"What? I am just showing all your elementary grade projects," Caihong said, "Also Xiang’s funny English essays."
Xiang cried. "Dad, how about you stop her for the sake of your children’s reputation?"
"Later," Xiaosi completely ignored his cry.
In this entire equation, the men were completely busy with their own heated debate and discussions - and that was the topic of daughters.
"Nuo was six years old when she wore this dress," a very distinct sparkling light illuminated Jinhai’s black eyes. "She looked like the Queen of angels. Still is."
"Well my Chyou has been the Queen of entertainment since childhood. Look at her flawless drama abilities and natural charisma. She always won all the fancy dress competitions."
Naturally, this stoked the competitive spirits of all the other dads around and somewhere along the line, the race morphed into which father gave the most thoughtful (also most expensive) gifts for their daughters.
"Hey, my Yating wasn’t any less handsome! Just look at him on stage here," Gu Rong showed back to back pictures of a middle-school Yating on stage, receiving a prize for the then literary competition. The pride shining in his eyes was too glaring to ignore.
"Dad, why are you in that group!?" Yating was speechless.
He frowned. "Well, this is Dad’s only group. I am a Dad. Why can I not be here?"
"They are all talking about their daughters."
"How is it my fault if you are my son? I have every right to be here too! You form your own Dad’s group if you want."
"..."
Liang cried. "My Leina is still as princess as ever...Do you all see her charm!? Just look at her. Her cuteness is too cute to bear!"
As always, his dear wife Ah Cy, patted his shoulders to soothe his never-ending flow of emotions.
"This was Ai-chan when we went fishing, muahahaha!" Zhou Yichen laughed. "That was the fish she caught - actually I had caught it, but I couldn’t see my little pumpkin too disheartened after almost fifty failed attempts."
"...Dad, I thought I caught that fish for real," Ai pursed her lips.
"A little lie that makes my daughter happy is always worth it~"
Xie Nuying proudly showed all her grade assessments marked with A and A+.
"Just look at all the A’s. Ai was such a bright child. Always aced all her tests."
Ai coughed. "Mom, how many of those marksheets do you have?"
"All of them."
"..."
Jian dug out an old magic wand. "Nian! Our mighty wands!"
He gasped. "We used to steal all the food with this!"
Liu Hai sneered. "It was your mouths stealing all the food, idiots, not your wands!"
"Hey, don’t you make fun of our childhood powers! We were the mightiest little magicians out there."
"You damn magicians always used to ruin my beautifully stitched dresses!" Jing glared.
They coughed. "Hey, all magic has a learning phase, okay? Accidents were bound to happen."
"See, see? Sister-in-law, so shameless they are!"
Meanwhile, Alix took a photo album from the heap, and flipped the pages to study Jin’s pictures.
"Hey, hey, hey! That’s forbidden territory!"
Jin gasped and snatched the album before his reputation would truly go down the drain to the point of no return. His ears burned red as he clutched the album to his chest like a life-saving shield.
"You cannot just ambush a person like that," he accused Alix. "There are some privacy laws."
Alix leaned closer, eyes sparkling with dangerous curiosity. "Privacy laws don’t apply between husband and wife. Especially when said husband looks like a scowling dumpling in kindergarten photos."
"That was a temporary facial phase," he defended weakly. "Those pictures are strictly confidential."
"Our contract didn’t have confidentiality agreement, so hand it over."
"Well, I am adding it now!"
Impasse.
So left with no other choice, Alix used the sure-shot tactic that would hit him without even a beat’s delay.
"Fine if you want to hide it as if your life depends on it. Not like I have much childhood memories of my own," she shrugged.
"..."
"I just thought it would be fun to have a glimpse at yours. But oh well."
"..."
Her nonchalant attitude truly pierced him straight through his heart. The photo album was back in her hands without a beat’s delay - just like Alix had plotted. Yet she frowned.
"I am happy the emotional card worked but you shouldn’t be so gullible."
Someone cleared his voice from the side and Alix took a glance. Ren Luoyang and Ren Cuifen looked a little fidgety.
"It’s true that all your childhood things belong to...our daughter. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t kept your things."
Ren Cuifen beamed with sunshine. "Look. This was your first scarf you tried to stitch after learning stitching and embroidery from me."
"Clearly, that’s a failed attempt. Why are you still keeping it?" She grimaced.
"It’s your precious first attempt! How can I just throw it away? Memories don’t have to be in a perfect shape and beauty," she harrumphed.
