Reborn on Wedding Night: Flirting the Cold Bigshot into Blushes-Chapter 331: Increasingly Humble
After Nancy Allen returned from the border, she kept trying to contact Elijah Jefferson.
Before, Julius Shaw suddenly appeared and took her away. In order to appease Julius, she didn’t have the chance to properly say goodbye to Elijah.
Elijah helped her selflessly many times. Even if she couldn’t love Elijah, she couldn’t just seek him out when in trouble and kick him away when all was well.
So Nancy always wanted to contact Elijah, to say thank you and to apologize.
But during this time, Elijah hadn’t responded to Nancy’s messages.
At this moment, Nancy had fallen asleep in Godfery Shaw’s lounge, when suddenly Elijah replied.
Perhaps Elijah had finally come to terms, as messages came in one after another.
Unable to say certain things face to face with Nancy, he could only express his thoughts through messages, reassuring Nancy not to mind.
The notification sounds didn’t wake the sleeping Nancy, but it was heard by Godfery Shaw, who had been keeping an eye on the lounge outside.
Godfery Shaw quietly entered the lounge and saw the phone still lit up.
He truly didn’t intend to snoop; he just wanted to move the phone away to avoid waking Nancy.
But with one glance at the lit screen, he saw the words, I admit I like you.
The sender was Elijah Jefferson.
Godfery Shaw’s grip tightened around the phone; he stood there for a long while, eventually not unlocking the phone, just putting it on silent and exiting the lounge.
Godfery Shaw sat silently in his office chair. He had always known that besides Julius, there was also Elijah Jefferson.
He never was her only one; she could leave him at any time, just like five years ago.
He never dared to hold too much hope. After Nancy’s return, her excessive closeness to him was something he shouldn’t have believed; she merely pitied him for once wanting to die together.
Godfery Shaw took a deep breath, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes.
Not sure if he was resting his eyes or calming the turmoil in his heart.
After Nancy returned, she knew Godfery Shaw had become gentle, but she didn’t know that his sharp edges had long been smoothed by her past aggressive decisions. His feelings for her had transformed from possessive dominance to humble devotion.
When Nancy awoke, it was already two hours later. She struggled to pick up the phone beside her, mainly wanting to contact Sophie Allen.
Sophie and her group were returning to Riverwood City today.
Having promised Sophie to return and show her the paintings, now it seemed they had to be postponed for a while.
Upon unlocking her phone, Nancy saw a bunch of messages.
Elijah finally replied to her.
Elijah’s last message read: "Nancy, I’m at peace now."
Nancy smiled and replied to the message: "Wishing you well."
Just those few words made Nancy sweat slightly on her forehead from exhaustion.
Nancy tried to get up, struggled to lift herself a few times without success, and inadvertently knocked her phone to the floor instead.
The sound of the phone hitting the floor alerted Godfery Shaw outside.
Godfery Shaw quickly walked over, acting as if nothing happened, and gently asked, "Awake, need to go to the restroom?"
Nancy shook her head and helplessly said, "Can you help me call Sophie? They are coming back today."
Nancy was completely out of energy; she was now utterly helpless and had to rely on Godfery Shaw for everything.
Godfery Shaw leaned closer and asked, "Nancy, what did you say?"
Nancy felt such close conversation was overly intimate, but she was so exhausted even typing a few words wore her out, and she couldn’t write, so she repeated herself in Godfery Shaw’s ear.
"Okay, I’ll contact Sophie," Godfery Shaw said, picking up Nancy’s fallen phone. Upon unlocking it, he saw the message reply screen.
He swore he didn’t want to snoop since he hadn’t looked while Nancy was asleep earlier.
But his gaze instinctively fell on the message chat box.
He saw Elijah’s final release.
He saw Nancy’s three-word reply, wishing you well.
Nancy didn’t like Elijah.
His heart, previously covered in ice, suddenly felt a little warmer.
Despite such emotional fluctuations, Godfery Shaw maintained a calm demeanor.
He used Nancy’s phone to dial Sophie’s smartwatch.
Upon connection, Sophie’s cheerful voice came: "Mom, are you at home? Is everything settled? We’re coming back today; the plane is at two in the afternoon."
After listening, Godfery Shaw spoke: "Sophie, your mom is with me."
On the other end, Sophie paused. Each time Nancy went to the Imperial Garden, Sophie always felt that Mr. Shaw was trying to take her mom away.
Indeed, it was so!
Mom didn’t spend an extra day playing with her and rushed back to accompany Mr. Shaw.
Godfery Shaw seemed to sense Sophie’s thoughts and gently said: "When you get off the plane, your mom and I will pick you up together."
Nancy’s eyes brightened and she became happy again: "Really?"
Godfery Shaw assured: "Really."
After the call with Sophie, Godfery Shaw placed Nancy’s phone back, picked her up for a wash, and had Basil Smith prepare lunch to be brought over.
Basil had already prepared lunch upon seeing Nancy there.
Upon receiving the notification, he immediately set aside what he was doing to find a chef.
Hailey Smith, who was freeloading in Basil Smith’s office, couldn’t help but quip upon seeing this: "Bro, you’re even more of a nanny than a nanny. You handle the work for the boss and take care of life. If it were possible, I suspect you’d help the boss live his life. At this rate, will you only take a break for your wedding and rush back to work?"
Basil Smith glanced at his idle brother, adjusted his glasses, and said: "Oh right, I forgot to tell you, I’m getting married, and, indeed, I have to take a break in a few days."
Hailey’s eyes widened, grabbing Basil who was leaving, yelling: "Bro! Don’t go until you explain clearly to me. Are you joking internationally? You’re getting married and I didn’t even know? When? With Emma Lewis?"
Basil almost tripped from being pulled, scolding: "Let go, stop pulling, let’s talk properly. What’s the use of telling you I’m getting married, can you help with anything?"
Hailey’s mind almost tangled up, not quite figuring out what he could help with, but still protested: "Even if I can’t help, I’m your only brother. Such a big deal as marriage, you must tell me."
Basil replied calmly: "Am I not telling you now?"
Hailey wanted to say, what kind of telling is this, it’s brushed off so casually even he’s aghast.
Hailey wanted to say more, but just as he opened his mouth, Basil interrupted him.
Basil directly instructed: "Since you’re here, I’ll continue my work. You go find the chef and push the prepared cart to the boss’s office, and we can talk after that."
Hailey held back a stomach full of questions, quickly ran to find the chef, and pushed the cart with a speed likened to a race car. Watching the soup almost spilling, Hailey thought that if he messed up the delivery, his brother would definitely find him even more foolish, so he quickly steadied the cart, slightly slowing his pace.
But he still hurriedly pushed the cart into Godfery Shaw’s office.
After placing down the cart, Hailey turned to run.
Godfery Shaw frowned and asked: "What are you in such a hurry for?"
Hailey didn’t even look back, saying: "My brother’s getting married, do you think I wouldn’t be in a hurry?"
After speaking, Hailey ran off, leaving behind two shocked individuals in the office.
