Chapter 298: Chapter 298: I’m Going to Find Her

This scene was witnessed by the entire film crew.

It’s quite normal for a lead actor to make things difficult for a supporting actor, but this time, before the supporting actor could speak, the lead was already reprimanded.

This shows a very strong backstage connection.

Scarlett Walker didn’t get to hit anyone, and instead, both the male and female leads had to change clothes and redo their makeup before reshooting the water scene.

Afterwards, perhaps Scarlett’s mood genuinely worsened, and she was not in the right state throughout.

George Mason was frozen and gave Scarlett an odd look, even starting to doubt her acting skills.

The two of them were repeatedly falling into the water, looking both pathetic and miserable.

On the other hand, Nancy Allen quietly stood by the shore, playing a mute, not needing to say a single line, as if she were just taking in the scenery.

Director Harris had a dark expression, and if it weren’t for this being the first take and not wanting it to end without a result, he might have moved on to the next scene.

The crew members exchanged glances, wondering why the lead’s acting, which was said to be so good, appeared so poor.

Retaking again, Nancy began to grow impatient, feeling somewhat tired.

When Scarlett confronted Nancy again, she felt like Nancy’s gaze had changed.

Clearly, it was the same person, with the same silence, yet something was different when facing her.

That indifference was like being utterly indifferent to the person who liked her, and Scarlett began to feel furious.

The person she liked was being viewed with high-handed indifference by another woman, a feeling that was both uncomfortable and enraging.

"Anna Walker, if you don’t like him, please refuse him outright. Do you know that he can’t swim? Watching him jump into the water like this, do you want to kill him? How can you be so cold-blooded and heartless!"

"Cut!"

Director Harris finally cut, sighing in relief.

Scarlett, however, stood there stunned, without any sense of happiness.

The reason that scene went so smoothly was because she was pulled into the performance by that woman, as if passively going along with it.

This skill is usually only possessed by extremely experienced seasoned actors who can draw people into the story like this.

But she was supposed to be the experienced veteran, and the woman in front was just a newcomer who had never even acted before.

Nancy, feeling tired, ignored the opinions of others and went to sit on a chair aside.

Director Harris, seizing this first scene of the day, reprimanded the crew, and after a round of admonition, he softened his tone, saying, "Though the process was a bit tough, the ending is still good. Let’s wrap up for this morning. I hope everyone can work well together moving forward. Today, I’m treating everyone to milk tea."

After hearing Director Harris, the heavy mood among everyone lightened up.

"I want taro flavor."

"I want fruit tea."

"I want coffee."

Director Harris’s assistant went around taking orders until reaching Nancy, and asked, "Miss Allen, what would you like to drink?"

Nancy remained silent, and the assistant suddenly recalled that she was mute, looking flustered as if he had made a mistake.

Elijah Jefferson walked over and politely said, "Sorry, she can’t drink these."

The assistant nodded and continued taking orders, unable to resist glancing back. Elijah handed a thermos over to Nancy, but it was unknown what it contained.

Scarlett whispered over there, "She’s so precious, can’t even drink milk tea."

Though her voice was low, those around her heard it.

Everyone pretended not to hear and kept their heads down doing their own things.

Nancy’s special treatment on her first day with the crew immediately led to people inquiring about Elijah’s identity.

It wasn’t really a secret who Elijah was, and those with intent could easily find out.

The next day, quite a few people looked at Elijah differently.

Even the way they treated Nancy was noticeably more courteous.

Nancy didn’t care if others were courteous or not; she didn’t have many scenes anyway. And with all her scenes scheduled, she just needed to show up on time. To the crew, she was like the first love in the script, cold and uninterested in anyone.

The only person Nancy was slightly familiar with was the young actor playing the male lead’s younger self.

No special reason, just because the boy called her ’sister.’

Three days later, the crew received a visitor.

Scarlett’s younger sister Violet Walker.

A frail-looking young girl, kind to everyone, sometimes bringing fruit or pastries to the film crew, standing out because she somewhat resembled that first love figure.

Both were of the delicate type, but still, there was a large difference; one was like a bright lamp in the night, the other like the moon in the sky.

Violet made casual attempts to get closer to Elijah.

After discovering Elijah’s identity, the sisters knew they couldn’t push Nancy aside.

But Violet began harboring other thoughts; with Elijah’s status, securing his favor would ensure a smooth path in the industry.

She considered herself somewhat like Nancy; if Elijah could like Nancy, surely he would also like her.

She was much better at pleasing men than Nancy, and even if she couldn’t be his true love, being a lover would be acceptable.

Men wouldn’t mind having more women around.

However, after so many days, Violet hadn’t managed to get close to Elijah, making her a bit anxious.

In the lounge, with teary eyes, Violet said, "Sister, Nancy’s scenes are almost finished, and I still haven’t found an opportunity. At this rate, I won’t get the role, nor Elijah. Sister, help me think of something."

Scarlett, known for being sharp and calculative, genuinely cared for her sister, advising, "Sister, that’s a member of the Jefferson family. Those rich young masters mostly just play around and won’t take us seriously. I really don’t want you getting involved with him."

Violet’s tears streamed down as she said, "But sister, I like him, and I’d be content to be just his lover. Please, sister, support me."

Scarlett hesitated a bit, eventually sighing and agreeing, "Alright, I’ll help you. Nancy’s last two scenes are outdoors, in desolate places prone to accidents. I’ll create an incident, so you can appear as a rescuer to Elijah. He’ll surely be grateful to you."

"That’s great! If I become his benefactor, he’ll definitely see me differently, and I’ll get the role. I knew you always have my back, sister."

Scarlett gave one last bit of advice, "Sister, have you really thought this through? It’s okay if you don’t get this role. I can help you fight for a better one in the future. You have me, you don’t need to rely on men."

"Sister, please stop. I’ve already made up my mind."

Scarlett held back from speaking further and in the end said nothing.

Time flew by, and Nancy had been with the crew for half a month. Under Director Harris’s special attention, except for the last two outdoor scenes, everything had been shot.

Director Harris looked at the film reels with satisfaction.

Nancy’s portrayal of the mute character didn’t require words, yet through her gaze alone, she vividly conveyed the character’s coldness and heartlessness.

Nancy’s emotional state had also improved greatly recently.

Immersing herself in the script was like diving into another person’s story, allowing her to gradually adjust and calm her inner turmoil.

Having anticipated much longer, Nancy now felt she no longer needed to go to another city to relax. After this film was completed, she could go back.

No matter what happened with Godfery, hiding like this was pointless.

...

Meanwhile, over in Riverwood City.

A half month passed.

Godfery Shaw learned that the Allen family, Ink Manor, and Emma Lewis, all those familiar with Nancy, had received news from her, but nothing had reached him.

Godfery had the patience to wait, but the other personality inside him could not bear it.

"Brother, I don’t care anymore, you’re cowardly waiting, but I must go find her."
