Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Godfery Shaw’s Mother

Edward Allen dialed Godfery Shaw’s number.

On the other end, Godfery Shaw asked coldly, "What’s up?"

Edward felt annoyed. Godfery Shaw, this guy, after all, he has already called his mother-in-law. No matter what, he should at least acknowledge him as brother-in-law like Nancy does. This icy tone, as if someone owes him something.

Thinking of this, Edward responded irritably, "I know Nancy had a stress reaction previously at the hospital; she doesn’t want us to know, so we have to ask you. How is she doing now? Find a place a little away from her and let us know."

Godfery came out of the kitchen, looked at the sleeping Nancy, and took the phone to the balcony to answer the call.

The suite was large enough that speaking on the balcony couldn’t be heard in the living room, so as not to wake Nancy.

Godfery walked to the balcony and began, "She’s asleep and can’t hear us. Ask whatever you want to ask."

Upon hearing this, Edward’s attention immediately shifted, "She’s asleep? Where is she sleeping? Godfery Shaw, I’m telling you, although you haven’t divorced, it’s been five years, you two haven’t seen each other in so long, Nancy’s not familiar with you. You can’t do anything to her, understand..."

Godfery frowned, a bit irritated, "Are you going to ask or not?"

These two never liked each other from the start.

Edward seemed to feel like his good cabbage was being taken by a pig.

For Godfery, it was the fact that Nancy used to call Edward "brother," while she never called him that.

The two men had a silent rivalry.

Edward sneered, "My parents are right beside me; I have the speaker on. It’s them who wanted me to ask."

Godfery paused and then spoke in a much calmer tone, "Father-in-law, mother-in-law, Nancy is staying in the Southern Bay Community, which is my place in Capital City. It’s very safe. Rest assured, I won’t do anything to her."

Mr. and Mrs. Allen looked at each other.

They weren’t sure if they couldn’t accept such a son-in-law for a moment or if they were a bit surprised by Godfery’s friendly attitude.

With an extremely righteous mindset, even Edward couldn’t help but curse silently for being shameless. Speaking to him was so unkind, but with the parents, it’s all ’father-in-law and mother-in-law’ this and that.

Where were his principles? Since when did Godfery become such a person!

If Edward had seen Godfery drunk in front of Nancy, he would have understood all of Godfery’s behaviors.

In front of Nancy, Godfery didn’t have any principles at all.

Mrs. Allen poked Edward’s shoulder, indicating for him to ask the main question.

Only then did Edward ask, "What symptoms might her stress reaction have? Is she doing any better now?"

Knowing that Mr. and Mrs. Allen were listening on the other end, Godfery didn’t sound impolite anymore and explained, "Her stay in the hospital wasn’t long this time; there’s no significant physical problem, it’s just that her eyes can’t see temporarily, she..."

Godfery was interrupted before he could finish.

Mrs. Allen, who was next to him, couldn’t help but speak up upon hearing this, "What did you say? How come she can’t see? Have you sought a doctor yet? I... I’ll contact the best doctor in this field immediately."

Charles Allen also chimed in, "Southern Bay Community, right? I’ll come over now to pick her up. I can’t be at ease until I see my daughter."

Victor Allen also added, "Is Nancy upset? She couldn’t speak to begin with; who knows how long it’ll take to recover. Now she can’t see either. Isn’t the suffering enough for my sister?"

The Allens were all agitated.

After their brief outburst, Godfery calmly spoke up to comfort them.

"No need to pick her up, she doesn’t want you to know her situation. The blindness is only temporary and will last about five days. During these five days, I’ll be with her constantly. Five years ago, I already sought the best doctors to examine her. The conclusion was that there’s no solution. Either she doesn’t go to the hospital, or she has to control it little by little herself."

The Allens in the room fell silent.

Edward was the first to speak, sounding a bit sad, "Godfery, do you even know what happened that made my sister have such a big stress reaction to hospitals? If she has to control it, will it be very painful for her!"

Godfery’s voice remained calm, "She didn’t want to say the specific reason, and I didn’t ask. Controlling it will certainly be painful, which is why I don’t plan to let her control it anymore. This time she lied to me, telling me her stress symptoms had improved. From now on, I won’t let her enter the hospital again."

Hearing Godfery’s certain words, the Allens had mixed feelings.

Godfery hadn’t considered making Nancy overcome such stress at all but instead directly took her away from it.

He truly cared about Nancy, seemingly just as much as five years ago.

The only thing that the Allens felt uncomfortable about was that Godfery had ignored Nancy for five years.

Now with Godfery’s attitude, they actually accepted the reason he had given.

Back then, the Shaw family had almost killed Nancy.

For the past five years, Godfery dared not ask about her, dared not visit, fearing his presence might bring disaster to Nancy again, which was actually understandable.

The Allens gradually improved their attitude towards Godfery.

They even invited Godfery to dinner at the Allen’s home.

While Godfery was on the phone, an unexpected visitor came to the Southern Bay Community.

A woman dressed in a cheongsam, lavishly styled, sneakily used a key to open Godfery’s apartment door.

Upon entering and seeing the lights on, the woman paused for a moment, then saw Nancy sleeping on the sofa.

The woman immediately recognized Nancy and thought it was normal for the Allen’s daughter to come to Capital City given the recent problems in her family.

She just didn’t expect her son to be so generous, giving this place’s key to this woman.

Godfery’s place was somewhere he allowed no one to enter; even she got in by stealing the key.

The more she looked, the more dissatisfied she became. Without this woman, her son would surely not have resisted the Shaw family, and she would still be living her life as a wealthy lady.

But now, Godfery had sent his father to prison, and while she still lived in the Shaw family, the lack of economic resources made life difficult.

The woman walked toward Nancy on the sofa and with an air of authority asked, "Are you Amelia Wright?"

Nancy was already asleep, but upon hearing the name she disliked, she frowned and woke up bleary-eyed.

Her vision was blurry; she couldn’t clearly see who was in front of her.

But knowing this was Godfery’s place, no one should appear and speak to her in such a distinctly unpleasant tone.

However, Nancy also knew that Godfery must be nearby and wouldn’t leave her alone here, so it didn’t matter who it was.

Seeing Nancy not saying anything, the woman spoke again.

"I am Godfery Shaw’s mother, Webb."
