Chapter 975: Chapter 790: Coincidence (Part 2)

Qu Liushou, having done all this, pushed the cart toward the gate. As he walked to the guard post, he rolled his eyes and deliberately poked a small hole in the bag on top of him. A few grains of rice spilled out. It was all to make the guard notice.

The guard at the gate saw it was Qu Liushou from the Qu Family, pushing two sacks in the dead of night and wondered what mischief he was up to this time.

"Qu Liushou, what’s in your sack?"

Qu Liushou shivered and feigned nonchalance, "Didn’t you see the rice on the ground?" He added deliberately, "Do you have a sack I could borrow? Otherwise, all my rice will spill out."

The guard looked suspiciously at the hole in Qu Liushou’s sack and the trail of rice on the ground. Feeling a bit sorry, he said, "I don’t have one. Maybe you should go back and change the bag."

"Change what, just leave it like this," Qu Liushou said and, ignoring the hole in the sack, rode away on his bike.

Once out of the courtyard, Qu Liushou rode his bike quickly to an empty place, took out a string from his pocket, and tied the newly poked hole. It was rice, after all, and he couldn’t bear to waste it. In the dead of night, with no one around, Qu Liushou quickly tied it up and hurried to their agreed meeting place. To take a shortcut, he cut through several alleys. After a bumpy ride, he eventually made it back home. This place wasn’t his home; he and Ye Qing had rented a secluded house for easy storage.

Once home, Qu Liushou quickly checked to see if anything was missing.

Upon opening it up, he realized he was in trouble. Apparently, while fiddling with the rice sack on top, he had accidentally slashed the bag below, slicing it open.

Qu Liushou inspected it and found that the two boxes he had helped himself to were missing. Damn, those two boxes looked valuable, and now they were gone. What should he do? He hadn’t even opened them yet but surely there were many valuable items inside. Losing them would be a huge loss.

Qu Liushou quickly secured the remaining items and traced his way back by bike to look for the missing boxes.

Little did Qu Liushou know, the two missing items had dropped right in front of Han Yi’s house.

Sometimes, things are just so coincidental. It happened that Han Yi and Lin Wan had just finished administering Little Star’s IV and were returning with Chen Haichang. After parking the car, Han Yi carried Little Star while Lin Wan followed behind, locking the car and heading to the door. She didn’t see what she stepped on and nearly slipped.

Startled, Han Yi freed one hand to support her, breaking into a cold sweat. "Xiao Wan, are you alright?"

"I’m fine, I’m fine," Lin Wan shook her head and looked down, nudging what she had stepped on with her foot.

The thing skittered with a rattling sound. Lin Wan awkwardly bent down to pick it up. On the other side, Chen Haichang, having just parked his bike, intended to greet them before heading to bed. Who knew that in just a couple of steps, he kicked a heavy object, hurting his foot? Annoyed, he picked it up intending to throw it hard across the street, but on taking it in hand, he thought it felt strange, and under the streetlight, to his surprise, it was a long box.

Then, Chen Haichang approached Lin Wan and Han Yi, noticing Lin Wan was holding a similar box. He asked in a puzzled voice, "What is this?"

"Let’s take it inside and have a look," Han Yi suggested. Still holding Little Star, he was also holding Lin Wan, fearing she might fall.

Chen Haichang took a closer look at the box in Lin Wan’s hand and said, "Niece-in-law, I found a box too. Let’s go to your house and see what it is."

As Chen Haichang spoke, he remembered something and returned to his bike to fetch the gift he had bought for Little Star.

After entering the house, Han Yi and Lin Wan threw the things they were holding into the living room and went straight to the bedroom. Han Yi told Lin Wan to sit on the bed to warm it up and refrained from undressing the child immediately.

Fortunately, the foot warmer was still hot, "Warm up a bit first before undressing the child."

"Okay, you can go out. I’ll watch over."

"Are you cold? If you are, I can come up and hold you in a while. Let me step out quickly and see him off." Just as Han Yi was speaking, Chen Haichang called out from the living room.

"Nephew, niece, come out, hurry and see what we found?"

Hearing his loud shout, Han Yi frowned slightly and turned to leave the room, "What’s up?"

"Xiao Yi, look, it’s a Northern Zhou painting, an antique!" Chen Haichang exclaimed excitedly after unfolding the painting from the box.

Han Yi frowned and took a look, "How do you know?"

"See the seal on it? Doesn’t it read?" Chen Haichang pointed to the seal on the painting.

Not knowing much about these things, Han Yi wasn’t sure if Chen Haichang was telling the truth or not. "Such a valuable item must belong to someone who lost it, right?"

"Of course, who would discard such a thing unless it fell from the sky?" Chen Haichang exclaimed as he opened the box he had found, revealing another scroll, and said to Han Yi, "This one bears a seal of Qi Baishi. Geez, how could someone lose two priceless items at once? Wait a moment, I’ll see if anyone comes looking for them." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Chen Haichang laughed as he placed the two paintings down and headed to the door. Just as he reached the entrance, he heard the sound of a bicycle approaching slowly, and someone muttering something like "Where did it fall?"

Han Yi followed him out and saw a man presumably searching for something, gave Chen Haichang a look, "Should we go ask if it’s him who lost them?"

Chen Haichang sneered and said, "You don’t recognize this person?"

Han Yi furrowed his brow, shook his head, "Do you know him?"
