Reborn in the 1980s: Recapture My Devoted Husband-Chapter 544 - 528: Saving People
"Okay, I’ll go right away." Lin Wan smiled and quickly went to prepare Little Star’s things.
Having a child makes going out quite inconvenient because there’s so much to prepare. It’s not like Yin Peibai and his wife, who just need to bring a satchel.
Previously, I was so busy making money that I hadn’t really enjoyed S City much. The only time I did was when Han Yi took me to see a movie.
On the eastern side of S City, there’s a river. The water isn’t very deep, so the government built a large park nearby.
Many people come here to have fun on Sundays.
There are quite a few boats here, and as soon as a few people arrived, they clamored to take a boat ride.
Lin Wan, worried about Little Star’s safety, didn’t want to go.
"Come on, with me here, it won’t be dangerous." Han Yi encouraged Lin Wan to try it. "I’ll sit right next to you, ensuring your and the child’s safety. Relax."
"Oh come off it, you two are an old couple already, still so lovey-dovey. Be careful, or the police might come and mistake you for hooligans," teased Su Ling from the side.
Lin Wan quickly looked around, fearing the police might actually come. The crackdown has been serious lately. They were scared too.
It cost ten cents per person, just seventy cents for the seven of them, but it was time-limited, only twenty minutes allowed. Just for the novelty of it.
Among them, only Lin Wan and Shi Lan found it novel. Su Ling and Yin Peibai had lived here since childhood and probably took boat rides often.
These boats require manual rowing, definitely a job for the three men.
"Ai Yi, let’s go over to that reed marsh over there." Not long after boarding, Lin Wan pointed towards a patch of reeds.
"Okay, sit tight. We’ll be there soon."
Yin Peibai whispered to Shi Lan, "Han Yi is so good to Lin Wan. Are they even more intimate at home?"
"I wouldn’t dare say, but for sure. At home, Han Yi completely listens to Xiao Wan. Han Yi is really doting on Xiao Wan. Even my Jiang Ning can’t compare."
Talking about her own man, Shi Lan felt a pang. Everyone here today was in pairs, she was the only one alone. She decided to clear up her work in a few days and go to Capital City to see her man.
No kids, no ties. Why suffer the pains of longing?
"Please! Help! Help!"
"Huh, why do I hear a foreigner’s voice?" Su Ling looked around in confusion, and indeed saw a foreigner on a small boat within the reeds.
Laughing, Su Ling pointed at the foreigner and said, "Look, it’s a foreigner. What’s he doing, waving his arms like that?"
At this point, everyone instinctively looked where Su Ling was pointing, and the foreigner noticed them too.
His emotions were a bit agitated, waving his arms while pointing towards a whirlpool not far away, "Help! Help!"
Only Han Yi and Lin Wan understood what he said, their expressions froze. Han Yi quickly took off his shirt and urgently told Lin Wan, "Hold the child tight, don’t worry." Then he swiftly dove into the water towards where the foreigner was pointing.
"Ai Yi, be careful." Lin Wan held Little Star tightly while anxiously watching Han Yi’s silhouette.
"Xiao Wan, what’s happening?" Su Ling and the others didn’t understand what the foreigner was saying, unsure what Han Yi was doing.
It was Zhang Hanfu and Liu Wei whose sharp eyes spotted a figure struggling in the whirlpool, giving them some sense of the situation. "That foreigner is calling for help. Someone must have just fallen in," Lin Wan translated the foreigner’s meaning.
"Ah, what... what do we do then? Can Han Yi manage by himself? Should we go back for help?" Yin Peibai looked around and shouted, "Somebody, come on! Someone’s fallen into the water here!"
"Somebody, come quickly," Su Ling and Shi Lan also yelled twice, successfully attracting nearby boats.
"Where is it?" "Where’s the person?"
"Over there."
"Quick, everyone, hurry up! Those who can swim, jump in quickly." The others swiftly rowed their boats over.
"You ladies better sit tight," Zhang Hanfu and the others quickly had the women sit tight first, ensuring their safety.
Lin Wan’s whole mind was on Han Yi. Fortunately, the water wasn’t deep, and as soon as he reached the spot, Han Yi lifted a long-haired foreign woman out of the water.
Having been submerged for some time, the woman seemed weak but appeared to be breathing. By then, two other people who had jumped in had also arrived.
Together with Han Yi, they helped lift the woman onto the foreigner’s boat.
Their boat had also docked by this time. Due to the current crackdown, none of the men dared perform CPR on a woman. Han Yi intended to do it, but a companion stopped him, "Bro, don’t take the risk. Just getting her onboard is enough. If you give mouth-to-mouth now, with so many people around, if someone causes trouble and reports you, it wouldn’t be worth it."
"She’s inhaled a lot of water, if we don’t act soon it might be too late."
"This..."
The foreigner, however, knew some emergency measures, "I come, I will." Seeing his female companion saved, he didn’t need them and could do it himself.
Sure enough, within a few moments, the woman came to, and the surrounding crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief.
"May?" "Jason?"
"It was this man who saved you," the foreigner named Jason said to Han Yi.
The woman named Mei turned her head and said in broken Mandarin, "Thank you. Without you, I might have met God already."
Han Yi nodded, "It’s only right. It wasn’t just me, we all worked together today to get you out quickly."
The couple named Mei hurriedly thanked everyone around, "Thank you all. Chinese people very good."
The people around didn’t understand what they were saying but could tell they were expressing gratitude.
After the rescue, the park staff showed up to handle the situation. Seeing no injuries or deaths, the crowd hung around for a bit before dispersing.
The group, who had originally gone out to enjoy themselves, ended up cutting their outing short because Han Yi was soaked.
They decided to go directly to Lin Wan’s house to have dumplings.
"Are you cold? I wish there were clothes for sale nearby," Lin Wan worriedly said while looking at Han Yi’s soaked clothes. "It’s almost summer, it won’t be cold, just wet. It’ll dry off soon enough. Let’s not let my situation spoil anyone’s mood."
"We’re out here to relax, it’s the same anywhere. Besides, it’s been a while since we had dumplings. Let’s have lunch at your place," Liu Wei insisted, clapping Han Yi on the shoulder.
Not hesitating, everyone quickly set off back home.
Just then, the foreign couple, Mei and Jason, caught up with them.
"Please stay, sir," the man said. "Sir, sir, please wait. Thank you for saving me today, we still don’t know your name yet," the foreign woman spoke some Chinese, which Lin Wan noticed. The man didn’t know any.
"It was just a small gesture, don’t worry about it," Han Yi replied in English.
The foreigner finally found a kindred spirit and excitedly rattled off a string of English to Han Yi. Lin Wan could vaguely understand; he was asking Han Yi for travel advice.
Seeing Han Yi’s adorable bewilderment, Lin Wan discreetly covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. Han Yi could indeed speak English, but having spent years in the military mostly going to remote places, his experience wasn’t of much help.
"Huh? Miss, you can understand what my dear is saying? You know our language?" said the woman named Mei, noticing Lin Wan.
"Oh, just a bit. My husband and I learned some English over time."
"That’s wonderful, May," she said, pointing to the foreign man beside her, "Jason, my dear."
Lin Wan freed a hand and shook Mei’s hand in a Chinese manner, "Lin Wan, my husband Han Yi. Our baby, Han Xingyue."
"Oh my God, your baby is so adorable," Mei exclaimed.
Lin Wan modestly replied in English with a thank you. This was her first time conversing with foreigners.
They chatted for a bit and found out they were here traveling. Originally a group of six, they had gotten separated from their friends. Now, they were sightseeing while also trying to reunite with their friends.
After some conversation, they discovered that the foreigners were headed to H City.
So Lin Wan drew them a route on the spot, advising them to take the number 2 bus directly to H City tomorrow.
After their talk, the man named Jason somehow took a photo of the three of them, saying it was for remembering their lifesavers back home.
After parting with the two foreigners, their friends looked at Han Yi and Lin Wan in astonishment.
"Han Yi, Lin Wan, you two are impressive. Your English is quite good," Zhang Hanfu said enviously.
"Right? I was completely lost listening to what they were saying," Liu Wei added.
