Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man-Chapter 90 - 44: 4th Sister-in-law, 4th Brother Is Broke (Part 3)
"The hospital. Go to the hospital," Jie Jingwei said, desperate to send them on their way.
"Qin Mei said that the way she dislocated Chunwang’s jaw is unique," Xu Chunyan stated. "She’s the only one who can put it back." She wasn’t making it up; Qin Mei had indeed said so.
"Really?" Jie Jingwei was doubtful.
"Jie Jingwei, what’s the matter with you? Do you not believe a single word I say now?" Xu Chunyan was deeply disappointed in Jie Jingwei.
While throwing her tantrum, Liu Guihua never failed to keep her eyes and ears open. Seeing her daughter and son-in-law starting to argue, she immediately let out a mournful howl.
"Aiya! Is there any justice left in this world! The Jie Family is bullying us! My poor daughter! My poor son! Oh, heavens above! Are you blind?! They’re going to bully us to death..."
Liu Guihua had been sitting on the floor making a scene, but when she saw no one was paying her any attention, she threw caution to the wind, lay down, and started rolling on the ground.
Xu Chunwang’s jaw throbbed, and he was drooling, a wretched sight to behold. He hadn’t eaten all day, and his stomach was growling with hunger. He sat slumped on the ground, completely dispirited.
He had been waiting in a rattan chair, whimpering in pain. He couldn’t help but squirm a little, but the chair suddenly broke. He tumbled to the ground, and the fall was so painful he wanted to curse his own mother.
"Somebody! Anybody! Everyone, come and see! Director Jie is letting his son and daughter-in-law bully us..."
This scene was all too familiar to Mrs. Xie. Before, she would have just given them money to make them leave. Now, she refused. She wanted Jie Jianguo to see for himself what his son’s in-laws were really like.
"This has nothing to do with me. I’m going back to my room." Mrs. Xie stood up, preparing to leave.
Seeing this, Liu Guihua scrambled to her feet, rushed toward Mrs. Xie, and latched onto her leg. "Qiao Yanqiu, you can’t go! Your fourth son and daughter-in-law dislocated my son’s jaw. You need to give me a proper explanation."
Mrs. Xie was stunned for a second. Liu Guihua’s portly body had just shot up from the floor with the agility of a gymnast. ’How did she do that?’ Seeing all that flesh, she looked like someone who would find walking a strain.
"An explanation?" Mrs. Xie sneered, her eyes dripping with contempt for Liu Guihua. "And what kind of explanation would that be?"
"Money. And then you’ll have your fourth daughter-in-law set my son’s jaw." Liu Guihua got straight to the point. Too much time had been wasted, and her son was still suffering. If she wasn’t so worried about him, she would have continued to wear them down.
’Anyway, she didn’t have a job; she had all the time in the world to drag this out. If she didn’t get the money today, she just wouldn’t leave. She’d stay at the Jie Family’s house and demand it again tomorrow. If she couldn’t get it here, she’d go to Qiao Yanqiu’s workplace and demand it there. If Qiao Yanqiu still refused, she’d go to Jie Jianguo’s machinery factory. She had nothing to lose and was prepared to make a scene anywhere and everywhere.’
"How much?" Mrs. Xie asked in a cold voice. ’She really thinks I’m a complete sucker.’
’So quick to talk money.’ Liu Guihua was inwardly delighted. ’Qiao Yanqiu cares too much about keeping up appearances. That’s precisely why I have her right where I want her.’
"One thousand." Liu Guihua held up an index finger.
Not only was Qiao Yanqiu stunned, but everyone present—aside from Liu Guihua, Xu Chunyan, and Xu Chunwang—was completely floored.
A thousand yuan was no small sum. Jie Jingwei would have balked at a hundred. A thousand was pure extortion.
Faced with such greed, Mrs. Xie didn’t even deign to haggle. "Let go."
"I won’t. I’m not letting go unless you give me the money." Liu Guihua sat on the floor, hugging Mrs. Xie’s leg and refusing to let go.
Liu Guihua was too heavy and far too strong. Mrs. Xie tried several times to free herself, but the leg Liu Guihua was holding wouldn’t move an inch. She was furious and felt powerless, but most of all, helpless. "I don’t have the money."
"You don’t have money, but your family does." Liu Guihua was carefully remembering her daughter’s instructions: Qiao Yanqiu might not have that much money, but her maiden family did.
Qiao Yanqiu laughed in exasperation. Liu Guihua was truly shameless, an absolute rogue.
Mr. Xie’s face was dark. He wanted to rescue his wife from Liu Guihua, but she was simply too heavy and clung to Mrs. Xie’s leg like her life depended on it. "Jing Er, take your mother-in-law and leave."
"Chunyan," Jie Jingwei said, his face cold. He was also at his wit’s end with his mother-in-law. "Tell your mom to let go of Aunt Qiao."
Seeing Mr. Xie’s foul expression and with Jing Er calling her out, Xu Chunyan couldn’t very well ignore the situation. She made a token plea. "Ma, you can’t be so insatiable. Let go of Aunt Qiao."
Liu Guihua and Xu Chunyan had rehearsed this part, so she wasn’t angered by her daughter’s words. "Give me the money. I’ll leave once I get the money."
’As for whether she’d actually leave after getting the money, that would depend on her son’s situation.’
"Ma, Aunt Qiao already said she doesn’t have the money." Xu Chunyan sneaked a peek at Mrs. Xie. Seeing that the older woman wasn’t caving, she began to wonder, ’Did we really ask for too much?’
A thousand yuan was an astronomical sum to an ordinary family, but to the Qiao Family, it was nothing more than a drizzle.
’Jie Jingchen hadn’t married Teacher Lin, she wasn’t on good terms with Qin Mei, and she had no control over her. Now that her plans were falling through, if she didn’t take this chance to get some money out of Qiao Yanqiu, it would be even more difficult to get any from her in the future.’
’The factory director’s position and the Qiao Family’s money—she wanted it all.’
"If you don’t have money, then ask your family for it," Liu Guihua said matter-of-factly.
Hearing this, Mr. Xie became furious and put pressure on Jie Jingwei. "Jie Jingwei, what are you standing there frozen for? Get over here and pull your mother-in-law away."
Jie Jingwei glared at Xu Chunyan before stepping forward. He grabbed one of Liu Guihua’s arms while his father grabbed the other. But even with their combined strength, the father and son couldn’t pull her off.
"AHH!" Mrs. Xie cried out, feeling as if the leg Liu Guihua was gripping was about to break. "My leg."
"Yan Qiu!" Mr. Xie’s heart ached. He and Jie Jingwei no longer dared to use brute force to yank the woman away.
Liu Guihua shrieked even louder. "Help! They’re hitting me! Oh, heavens! There’s no justice! A son-in-law and his father are beating his mother-in-law! Is anybody there? Help me! A son-in-law hitting his mother-in-law—it’s unheard of! You’ll face divine retribution for this! You’ll be smitten by the heavens!"
"Ma, don’t talk nonsense, I wasn’t... Ugh! Dad, what do we do now?" Jie Jingwei let go and stood to the side, looking at his father’s grim, furious face.
"Jing San!" Mr. Xie yelled toward Jie Jinghun’s room.
Jie Jinghun immediately shut his window. His message was clear: he wasn’t getting involved. This made Mr. Xie fume, but there was nothing he could do about Jing San.
As Mr. Xie called for reinforcements, Liu Guihua immediately launched into a tirade. "Oh, heavens! Murder! The son-in-law’s family is ganging up on us! They’re going to bully me and my son to death! Jie Jianguo, I’m going to report you! I’m going to the machinery factory—"
"Ma!" Xu Chunyan immediately cut her off. ’Their target is Qiao Yanqiu,’ she thought frantically. ’If they were going to make a scene, it should be at the hospital, not the factory!’ "Ma, don’t say things you don’t mean!"
Liu Guihua paused for a moment, then suddenly turned on Xu Chunyan. "You ungrateful wretch! You married into the Jie Family, and now you’re ganging up with them to bully your own mother and your own brother."
"Ma, I’m not!" Xu Chunyan cried, feigning innocence.
Liu Guihua pointed a finger at Xu Chunyan’s nose and cursed, "Not? You still have the nerve to say you’re not? You ungrateful wolf! If I’d known you’d turn out so thankless, I would have strangled you at birth! Look at your brother, his jaw dislocated by that vicious sister-in-law of yours, and you won’t even dare to let out a squeak! Then look at me! I’m dying of humiliation here.
"You heartless, ungrateful viper! Who do you think your brother and I are being bullied so miserably for? Look at your face, it’s ruined, yet you just endure it! If it were me, I’d scratch the face of anyone who dared to touch mine to ribbons!"
"Ma," Xu Chunyan cried, putting on a show of being heartbroken. This, too, was part of their plan. If Qiao Yanqiu gave them the money without a fuss, Liu Guihua would leave without a fuss. As for Xu Chunwang, he would leave after Qin Mei set his jaw. If Qin Mei refused, he would just stay at the Jie residence indefinitely.
If Qiao Yanqiu refused to pay and the rest of the Jie Family got involved, Liu Guihua was supposed to berate Xu Chunyan, putting her in a difficult position between her husband’s family and her own.
At least with her own daughter, Liu Guihua held her tongue somewhat, refraining from using truly malicious curses.
"Don’t call me ’Ma’!" Liu Guihua roared, cursing, "You traitorous, ungrateful wretch! I’m not your mother! From now on, the Xu Family is no longer your home. If your in-laws give you grief, then you just take it. And if you can’t take it, don’t come crying back home—just find a crooked tree and hang yourself!"
