Chapter 108: Chapter 50: To Cripple Jing Si

Jie Jingchen knew full well how bold Qin Mei was. Facing the ferocious Father Xu, she didn’t show a trace of fear. Her amber eyes were tinged with a faint anger, and held a hidden, profound meaning.

Jie Jingchen watched Qin Mei for a long moment before his tightly pressed lips parted. "Which words?"

"Um, it’s better if you don’t know." Qin Mei wiped away the tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes.

"Tell me." Jie Jingchen’s tone was harsh. The more she refused to say it, the more curious he became. Even knowing that nothing good ever came out of her mouth, he still wanted to know.

"Are you sure?" Qin Mei asked, giving him a chance to back out. Under Jie Jingchen’s unwavering gaze, Qin Mei took a deep breath and said, "To master this art, one must first castrate himself."

"..." Jie Jingchen.

"..." The other three.

Jie Jingchen’s brow furrowed, a frosty layer settling over his features. His displeasure was palpable. Qin Mei spoke up again. "See? What did I tell you? You just had to ignore my advice."

Jie Jingwei was rendered speechless by this wife of Jing Si’s. Father Xu was filled with suspicion. ’How could Jing Si marry a wife like this?’

The men’s thoughts had strayed from the tense atmosphere and any deep-seated hatred.

Xu Chunyan was very direct. "Jing Si, divorce her and marry Teacher Lin. I’ll convince my dad to let you go. Your first son with Teacher Lin will be given to my younger brother to carry on our Xu Family line."

Jie Jingwei sucked in a sharp breath. ’This wife of mine sure is audacious.’ No matter who Jing Si married or had children with, there was no way he’d give a child to his brother-in-law, let alone a son. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

’Even if Jing Si and Dad agreed, would Aunt Qiao ever allow it?’

’A son born to Jing Si wouldn’t just belong to the Jie Family, but to the Qiao Family as well.’

Father Xu fell silent, considering it seriously. His son was crippled, and the Xu Family line was broken. For the sake of the family, he’d have to adopt a son sooner or later. Instead of adopting a stranger, having Jing Si produce one for Chunwang seemed like a better option.

Qin Mei was silent. ’Xu Chunyan’s worldview is completely insane.’

Jie Jingchen glared fiercely at Xu Chunyan, his amber eyes turning a menacing, blood-red hue. "Sister-in-law, you are a daughter of the Xu Family, and Xiao You is the Xu Family’s grandson. You can discuss changing Xiao You’s surname to Xu with Second Brother."

Father Xu looked at Jie Jingwei and Xu Chunyan. He found Jie Jingchen’s suggestion much more reliable. A son born to Jing Si would have no blood relation to the Xu Family, whereas a child born to Chunyan was their own flesh and blood.

"No way," Jie Jingwei refused flatly. Changing Xiao You’s surname to Xu was absolutely impossible.

"No way," Xu Chunyan also disagreed. Xiao You was the eldest grandson of the Jie Family. She was counting on him to inherit the Jie Family’s fortune. Once Jing Er inherited the factory director position, Xiao You could then inherit it from him.

Xu Chunyan had planned far ahead, only to be defeated by the country’s reforms.

Seeing her father lost in thought, Xu Chunyan sensed trouble and gently nudged him. "Dad."

Father Xu snapped back to his senses. ’The matter of adopting a child can be discussed later. Right now, I need to avenge my wife and son.’

"If you won’t end things yourself, then I’ll do it for you." Father Xu lifted his foot and kicked straight between Jie Jingchen’s legs. A sinister look covered Jie Jingchen’s face, a wicked light flashing in his amber eyes.

Jie Jingwei took a step back, a hint of anticipation in his narrow, fox-like eyes. His father-in-law was a trained fighter. Before his injury, Jing Si might have been able to trade a few blows with him. But now that he was injured, even if he managed to dodge the vicious kick, he would only aggravate his wounds.

Xu Chunyan’s thought was for her father to cripple Jie Jingchen with one kick, then give Qin Mei a kick for good measure. If she didn’t die, she’d at least be maimed.

"Jie Jingchen!" Qin Mei’s heart leaped. ’He really just kicks when he says he will. A man of action, indeed.’

The silver needles she had ready in her hand were about to fly, but Jie Jingchen grabbed her hand, stopping her from throwing them. Qin Mei jolted. ’What is he trying to do?’

’Is Jie Jingchen trying to pull another self-harm ploy? That kick from Father Xu is meant to rob him of his ability to have children. If he takes this hit, he’ll really be crippled.’

In the nick of time, Jie Jingchen wrapped an arm around Qin Mei’s waist and dodged to the side. Father Xu’s foot slammed into the stone table behind them. The heavy table was knocked over, crashing to the ground and cracking the floor tiles.

Sunflower seeds scattered. The enamel mug hit the floor with a piercing noise, spilling tea and tea leaves everywhere.

Qin Mei’s heart trembled. She realized Father Xu was no mere show. He was a trained fighter with impressive skills.

’If Jie Jingchen hadn’t dodged, he would have been maimed, if not killed.’

A cold glint appeared in Qin Mei’s eyes. The silver needles were poised at her fingertips again, but this time her target wasn’t Father Xu’s leg. It was his neck, with the grim determination to land a fatal blow.

"So you really are seriously injured," Father Xu sneered. He had fought Jie Jingchen before. Jie Jingchen was very strong; even at full strength, Father Xu was no match for him.

That last kick was just a test. The result was very satisfactory. His movements weren’t agile enough, and his speed had diminished.

"It’s no secret that I retired due to injury," Jie Jingchen said, unconsciously tensing his muscles. The hand on Qin Mei’s waist loosened its grip, ready to push her away at a moment’s notice.

"For this next kick, I won’t give you a chance to dodge." Father Xu’s eyes were cold and filled with a murderous chill.

"Old man Xu, if you dare hurt him, you can forget about your son’s jaw ever being fixed," Qin Mei said coldly.

Father Xu’s face instantly clouded over, his savage gaze locking onto Qin Mei. "Don’t you worry. I’ll settle the score with you for my son’s jaw in a moment."

Jie Jingchen’s eyes suddenly narrowed, a dangerous glint radiating from their depths. His voice was like ice. "Uncle Xu, are you trying to cause a complete break between the Xu Family and the Jie Family?"

Hearing Jie Jingchen’s words, each one cutting like a knife, made Xu Chunyan tremble.

A complete break between the Xu Family and the Jie Family was not something she wanted to see. Her targets were only Jie Jingchen and Qin Mei. Jie Jingjue was also Qiao Yanqiu’s son, but because of Aiyun, she hadn’t directed her anger at him. She was only targeting the couple, Jie Jingchen and Qin Mei.

"Dad..."

"You, shut up!" Father Xu barked. He wasn’t stupid. His daughter had caused much of this trouble.

Before, it was just petty squabbles, and he had turned a blind eye, letting them make a fuss. But look what happened now. The trouble had started from within their own family, his son was crippled, and the Xu line was cut off.

"Dad," Xu Chunyan burst into tears.

"Enough. Stop embarrassing yourself and stand aside. I’ll settle your account with you when we get home," Father Xu said, annoyed.

"Dad, my father has always been a man of great principle. He can tell who is right and who is wrong. Chunyan is my wife, his daughter-in-law. He won’t let his judgment be swayed because of Aunt Qiao," Jie Jingwei said with a hidden meaning.

Jie Jingchen’s words had made Father Xu hesitate, but Jie Jingwei’s words were the reassurance he needed.

Her eyes turning cold, Qin Mei looked at Jie Jingwei, a faint mockery surfacing in her gaze. ’Stoking the fire, encouraging his father-in-law to cripple his own half-brother. If Jie Jingchen were crippled, Jie Jingwei would certainly benefit greatly.’

"Uncle Xu, assault and battery is against the law," Jie Jingchen reminded him, deviously cunning as ever.

"Hmph!" Father Xu snorted and demanded, "It’s illegal for me to hurt someone, but not for you?"

"We were acting in self-defense," Qin Mei answered first. "At most, it would be considered excessive self-defense... No, wait. We didn’t take a life, so it doesn’t count as excessive. We didn’t break the law."

"I won’t take your lives either. So I won’t be breaking the law," Father Xu said viciously.

Father Xu lifted his foot, but before he could kick, Jie Jingchen pulled Qin Mei down to the ground with him. Father Xu froze, completely bewildered.

Qin Mei was also dumbfounded. ’What’s he playing at now? This isn’t how you surrender. Is he trying to play dead?’

’She didn’t think Father Xu would let them off just because they played dead.’

Xu Chunyan looked on, bewildered.

Having been brothers for many years, Jie Jingwei knew Jie Jingchen too well. He whipped his head around, and sure enough...

Jie Jingjue came rushing back, followed by several uniformed police officers.

"Fourth Brother! Fourth Sister-in-law!" Seeing them on the ground, Jie Jingjue was instantly frantic. "Was I too late?"
