Chapter 158: His cunning wife

"Is this really happening?" Aaron asked Derrick as they stood behind Amelia.

"I mean, if the King isn’t saying anything, then I guess it’s happening. It’s supposed to be fun. I hope no one takes it to heart," Derrick commented.

Ryan, who was cutting wood on the side, shook his head.

"I know it’s for fun and to make the trip memorable, but I think it’s a little unfair to the girls. The power dynamic here is complicated. Some are alpha females, some are betas and gammas, and then come the healers, with some who haven’t even found their wolves," Ryan said.

The trio’s gaze shifted to Amelia, who stood at the side.

"Do you want to participate?" Aaron asked her.

"Well, they don’t leave a choice out, do they?" She shrugged, pretending that she was doing this forcefully and would choose peace over this useless competition any time.

Deep down, she understood why King Cyrus suggested this duel.

Now that the king has been chosen, the queen trials would probably begin the next week, and this fight over here might just tell her how much deeper she was in the game and if she was even ready to fight those alpha females.

After all, there was no doubt that the winners in the final rounds would be the alpha females. And she needed to be amongst them to at least prove her worth to Cyrus.

She had been training a hell of a lot, and Kael did tell her that she was improving by leaps and bounds. Not to mention that the training at the royal palace was serving her well, teaching her various tricks that she was improving with Kael.

Her weird strength that she got from the mark, surprisingly, would be an added benefit to this duel and the queen trials that she would be running against in the future.

"True. The professor put a lucrative offer on the table by allowing them immunity from the next assignment. Everyone knows that the next assignment would serve as one of the deciding factors for the final internal marks," Aaron said.

Amelia took a deep breath and looked at the chit box where they were supposed to walk and get their opponent according to the numbers.

Every girl would receive a number. Every odd number was supposed to fight with the succeeding even number.

Like number 1 would fight with 2, 5 would fight with 6, and so on.

Amelia finally walked to the table and grabbed her chit before walking back to her place.

She opened the chit and read the number.

It said 12. It meant her opponent was number 11.

Amelia looked around to see who got number 11. She saw a timid girl holding the number.

"You got lucky this time. She is a Gamma," Derrick mused behind her.

Amelia didn’t know whether to feel lucky or not. But she was indeed grateful that she got an easy start.

At least this way, she would watch others’ tricks and methods when fighting before she faced them.

Soon, the duel started, and Amelia stood before the timid-looking Gamma.

Seeing that it was a healer with no wolf, the Gamma she-wolf relaxed a little.

"Don’t worry. I won’t be hard on you," she said in a soft tone.

Amelia smiled.

"Thank you for the care." She nodded.

She raised her hand as the Gamma she-wolf charged at her, ready to strike her face.

Amelia dodged the attack swiftly before she held her hand and twisted it in a way that the girl’s body flipped as Amelia hit her chin, making her fall to the ground.

Professor Dan walked to the girl and counted to five. When she didn’t wake up, Amelia was announced as the winner between the two.

Everyone watched in surprise. This wasn’t what they expected. They indeed thought it would be easy for Amelia and wouldn’t hurt too much if she lost, but no one had expected her to end the game in one swift move.

Amelia looked at Cyrus, who nodded in approval.

The rounds continued in the same way as the first one had commenced. By the end of the third round, only five remained.

The alpha female was asked to stand out since they knew she would win if she fought against them. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Amelia stood against one of the beta females, and to her surprise, Hannah stood before an alpha female.

Hannah looked at Amelia. To say she was surprised would be an understatement. Her timid sister, whom she used to bully endlessly and who didn’t even know how to say no or defend herself, was standing right beside her.

How did she make it so far?

There was no way it could all be due to pure luck so far. She wasn’t getting all the weakest players. She fought an alpha female as well.

Hannah’s gaze shifted as the realization of something deeper dawned upon her. Amelia wasn’t just slipping out of their control.

She was changing, transforming, and if she continued at this pace, she might become completely out of their league, someone they wouldn’t be able to control ever.

And they needed to clip her wings before that.

The duel started.

Amelia didn’t attack first this time. She got into the fighting stance, her gaze observing her opponent’s every move. She narrowed her gaze when the beta she-wolf stepped forward, but when she tried to dodge, she stepped back.

She was playing with her, trying to trick her.

Amelia smiled.

She really thinks she can trick us? Amelia wondered, her gaze briefly shifting towards her mark that was glowing with a blue hue.

It wasn’t alright. It was starting again.

As Amelia was distracted, the beta female finally struck with full power, unleashing a lethal attack that knocked her down.

However, Amelia dodged the attack right in time. The girl’s fist brushed against her biceps, and Amelia flinched slightly.

This was bad. She needed to concentrate. For some reason, it no longer felt like fun. It was becoming personal.

"Peace!" Amelia heard a sharp cry from her left and looked at Hannah, shielding her face with her hands as Luna Diana stood over her.

Seeing Amelia distracted again, the beta female struck out, unaware that Amelia was prepared this time.

She held the girl’s hand and twisted it before punching the girl’s face hard, sending her sliding a few feet away.

Amelia didn’t stop at that. She slid forward before landing a roundhouse kick on the girl.

All this time, her gaze didn’t waver from Luna Alice, who was studying her tricks and methods, like a true soldier preparing for the next war.

And that was the same reason Amelia changed her fighting style completely, so she could use the element of surprise when she fought next.

Cyrus, who had been training her and could see what she was doing, smirked.

My wife is as cunning as I am. The man wondered before shaking his head at her. This was indeed more entertaining than he had thought. He smiled.
