Reborn for Revenge: Find her Fated Alpha-Chapter 148: A shadow of whom?
"How are you feeling now?" Elysia asked Patrick, caressing his hair with worry in her eyes.
Lilithia didn’t say anything. She just kept looking at her brother, tears pooling in her eyes.
She was still traumatized by the face-off and overthinking about what could’ve happened if Amelia hadn’t interrupted and caught Cyrus’s attention.
Patrick shifted his gaze to his sister, who wasn’t so used to all this blood bath, and tried to give her an assuring smile.
"Hey, don’t be so sad. Do you think your brother is so weak? I’ll get better in no time," Patrick said.
Elysia urged Patrick not to speak or move his muscles too much. It would hinder the healing process, and they didn’t want that to happen.
"Brother, I have faith in you and your wolf, but... can we not fight with brother Cyrus? I don’t know the throne math, but didn’t it always rightfully belong to Brother Cyrus? He was already strong, and now his wolf showed up too. I don’t want you to get hurt anymore," Lilithia said with pleading eyes.
Patrick thinned his lips.
It wasn’t like he exactly wanted to fight with Cyrus. Did he ever want to?
Unlike Cassius, he also wanted to back out of the face-off. But his father had a dream of seeing him as the king and gaining power for so long that he didn’t even know if he had any other dreams, dreams that belonged to him.
Patrick sighed and shook his head at Lilithia. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"Don’t worry about these things. Just have faith in me, okay?" He said.
Lilithia pursed her lips and was about to say more when she felt their father’s presence outside the room.
She immediately shrank into the corner of the room, trying her best to blend in and avoid her father’s gaze.
The man never liked her. After all, she was as good as useless to his dream.
"Father," Patrick tried to sit, but Dominic raised his hand to stop him in place.
"It’s okay," He said, his voice gruff.
It has been 10 hours since they returned from the arena, and he hasn’t moved a step away from the hospital.
He looked at his son’s condition, feeling a slight sense of remorse. Perhaps if his preparation had been better, things would have turned out differently.
"I am sorry, Father. I let you down," Patrick said.
Dominic hummed.
"No one expected his wolf to show up," he said.
He sat beside his son for a while before taking a deep breath.
"It’s okay. Let them enjoy this victory. I have yet to play my Ace card," Dominic said, his gaze shifting to Elysia briefly, who smiled and nodded at him.
Patrick looked at his parents. This wasn’t the first time his father said something like this. But every time he asked about it, he was met with silence.
"I think you guys should return to the estate. I’ll be fine in a few hours. You guys haven’t rested even for a second," Patrick said.
Dominic looked at Elysia and nodded.
After his son’s defeat, he turned his phone off and asked the others to do the same, not wanting to hear any useless, pitiful condolences from people who would just mock them inwardly.
Dominic nodded at his son before leaving with Elysia hot on his tail.
Lilithia followed like a little unnoticed lamb, and Patrick took a deep breath.
He looked at the ceiling, his expression turning grave.
The defeat today was disgraceful. His wolf had warned him about it beforehand. He had said something felt different, that he didn’t want to fight Cyrus today.
His wolf probably sensed Cyrus’s wolf before he could.
However, for his father’s grace, Patrick had urged his wolf to move forward with their plan and give his best.
’You did well,’ Patrick said to his wolf after some time, who had gone quiet since the face-off.
He was met with silence on the other end and took a deep breath, closing his eyes to sleep.
At the same time, Dominic, who stepped out of the hospital, was immediately met by his subordinates. Their expressions didn’t look good.
"Sir, we–"
"If you are going to say some useless comforting words, save them. I don’t need it," the man said hoarsely.
The subordinates looked at each other before Alex stepped forward with a bit of courage.
"It’s not that, sir. We have been trying to contact you for some time, but couldn’t reach you, and Secretary Joshua said you don’t want to meet anyone," Alex said.
Dominic hummed and signalled Elysia and Lilithia to get in the back seat.
"The thing is... one of the main buildings of the Bentley state has been blown. The evidence traces back to rogues," Alex said.
Dominic, who was moving towards his car, suddenly stopped.
What did he say? The building was blown?
"Why?" He asked.
Alex looked down at his feet.
"It’s probably the payment of the last task," he said in a low voice.
Dominic didn’t say anything.
He asked the driver to take Elysia and Lilithia back to the palace.
"It’s better if you stay with Mom today. She must be scared, and Dad is away too. Keep her company," Dominic reasoned with Elysia.
He went straight to Bentley’s estate to check the damage.
His fists clenched when he looked at the scene before him.
The main building near their house had collapsed to the ground.
By attacking their main building, the rogues made their point clear. They weren’t someone he should mess with.
Was it because his son lost the game with Cyrus that the rogues got so bold as to attack his estate directly?
"I won’t leave them," Dominic’s gaze turned dark.
With anger coursing in his veins, he turned to the abandoned dungeons where no one was allowed to go.
How could he allow anyone? That was the exact place where his Ace card was. The beast he has been taming and imprisoning for years.
As he walked towards the dungeons, located near the centre of the forest, he suddenly felt as though he saw a shadow of someone near the caves.
His brows furrowed, and he rushed behind the shadow.
This was bad. If anyone found out about that secret, the beast he had been hiding from everyone for so many years to use against Cyrus, things wouldn’t work out as he wanted them to.
He ran, using his Alpha speed, and was about to reach the dungeons when the shadow turned in another direction, leaving him frozen in his place.
It wasn’t the fact that the shadow changed directions that shocked him, but rather the fact that the shadow was starting to flow in the air. From a little glimpse of it, the shadow almost looked like Amelia.
But how was that even possible?
