Reborn: Earth Online-Chapter 81 - 82: If we meet again
"They should be somewhere in the starting area," Niera explained. Kaden had a long talk with her about what had happened, and from the looks of it, they were attacked by a horde of level 5 stone monkeys and got separated.
Her group then again got unlucky and walked right into the Scourge territory. The bear killed the couple of guys who were with her, and Niera was the last survivor.
Kaden ran a hand through his hair. "Damn it. This was not how everything was supposed to go." He looked in the direction of the starting area. Should he go and look for her? He rubbed his temples as he weighed the options in front of him.

The silver-haired priestess, the woman who once saved thousands and thousands of people. Did he somehow inadvertently alter her fate?
Kaden shoved the guilty feeling away. If he got sidetracked because of one person, even if it was her, then everything would become pointless in the end anyway. Unfortunately, saving her wouldn’t be enough to change anything.
And he did not have time.
He silently stared in the direction of the starting zone for a few minutes and then exhaled. "They are just level 5 stone monkeys. You can survive. I know you. You are strong enough to survive this. I hope you can survive this. If we meet once again in this lifetime, I will make up for everything."
With one last look, he turned away. He needed to focus on the bigger picture. He needed to keep moving forward. He absent-mindedly started walking away when Niera’s loud voice called after him.
"Please take me with you. Please. I am begging you. Please take me with you. I will do anything for you. Please. I don’t want to be alone anymore. I don’t know how to live in this world. Please save me. I will be useful to you, I swear."
"Stop." Kaden shook his head. "I am sorry. You cannot come with me. I simply do not have the time to help others right now. I have my own problems."
Niera looked terrified. "Please. Please. Why did you even save me if you are going to leave me? How can you be so heartless?"
Kaden shook his head. "If you keep walking in this direction, in a couple of days or so, you will reach a safe zone. You can live there peacefully." He then paused as he realized something. "Okay. Change of plans. You can come with me."
The woman looked confused as hell, but she did not question the good luck. "Thank you. Thank you so much. I will never forget this."
"Okay. Let’s get moving then."
Niera trembled and nodded, her entire body shaking. She then quickly started walking, but her quickness was no match for Kaden’s speed.
"Uhhh? Would you mind if I carried you?"
"Ah. What?" Niera’s eyes widened.
Kaden did not want to waste any more time talking, so he went ahead and picked her up. In one swift motion, he scooped her up into his arms.
Niera let out a startled gasp, eyes widening in shock, but before she could protest, he started running. Niera’s words stuck in her throat as she now understood why Kaden had done what he had done.
Wind whistled past her as he ran. Her eyes were squeezed shut, and for a few moments, the world was nothing but the rush of air and the pounding of footsteps. The forest blurred around them as he ran, and soon it had been several minutes, which quickly turned into an hour.
Niera finally managed to open her eyes and take a look. What greeted her was the up-close view of a chiseled chest with defined muscles. Kaden’s broad shoulders and steady, determined gaze filled her vision, and even in the rush of their flight through the forest, there was an unmistakable aura of strength and resolve about him.
Her heart pounded. She did not want to take her eyes off of the man who had shown up magically time and again and saved her from the worst this new world had thrown at her. She closed her eyes, tears streaming down.
She did not know what tomorrow held but for the first time after everything went to shit, she actually felt safe. In this stranger’s arms, in this stranger who was was completely naked and had a tail behind him, she finally felt like she could breathe. She closed her eyes and drifted into a deep sleep.
