Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s-Chapter 571 - 555 Wind Comes
Zhao Chun and Jin Zhi rode in a car for about three hours before arriving at the village where Jin Zhi’s family lived. Ahead lay a cluster of small homes, and the two still needed to walk the rest of the way.
Jin Zhi blushed deeply and said, "This is where I used to live. It’s nothing like the bustling city. Mr. Zhao, is this your first time visiting a place like this?"
Zhao Chun shook his head and glanced around, taking in the sights. "Your boss also grew up in a simple place like this. I’ve actually been to one before."
Jin Zhi quickly recalled that and said softly, "The boss did mention that."
Walking along the small paths of the village, they passed many villagers, all of whom greeted Jin Zhi warmly.
"Oh my, Jin Zhi’s back! Haven’t seen you in ages!"
"I heard you got yourself a good job in the city. Your brother’s betrothal money was raised all at once. How much do they pay you in the city per month? You must be doing well!"
"Jin Zhi, is this your boyfriend? He’s so handsome!"
The villagers had always had a favorable impression of Jin Zhi.
She was the first woman in the village to go to the city and develop a career. She even went to high school and found a decent job. Looking at her now, compared to before, she seemed to have grown even more beautiful. She wasn’t wearing a cotton coat but a woolen one, and as she passed by, there was a faint fragrance coming from her.
The scent was even better than soap.
She hadn’t been in the city for long, and here she was, bringing back a young man from the city. It seemed she was about to marry into the city—a golden phoenix flying out from the hills.
The young man was tall and strikingly handsome. Not only did he exude vitality, but he was also dressed in a stylish way that screamed "city." Around his neck was a neatly tied white wool scarf, giving him an effortlessly refined appearance.
Jin Zhi was so flustered that she couldn’t lift her head, keeping her eyes glued to her toes as she walked.
Zhao Chun, aware of the villagers’ gossiping nature, maintained a calm demeanor, though he didn’t enjoy being misunderstood.
Jin Zhi’s family owned land, and her parents relied on farming for their livelihood. She had a younger brother and sister. Her sister had only attended elementary school and stayed at home to help her parents. Her brother, however, was quite the trouble-maker, acting like a rambunctious child even though he was about to get married. Whether marriage would settle him down remained uncertain.
The entire family was home today, except for Jin Zhi’s unreliable brother, who was out somewhere wandering around.
When Jin Zhi knocked on the door and called out to her parents, the door quickly opened. Her parents were overjoyed; her willingness to come back indicated that she was open to meeting someone, saving them the trouble of persuading her further.
But then they froze, realizing their daughter was accompanied by a pale-skinned stranger.
Jin Zhi’s father put on a stern expression, gave Zhao Chun a quick glance, and asked Jin Zhi, "Who’s this?"
"Dad, this is my boss’s friend. He came back with me today," Jin Zhi said, casting a glance at Zhao Chun before adding, "Let’s go inside to talk."
"Oh, so you’re the big boss’s friend!" Jin Zhi’s mother, eager to make a good impression, beamed brightly and said, "Come in, come in, big boss, you too!"
Zhao Chun awkwardly scratched his nose. Since when had he become the big boss?
With polite nods, he stepped into the family’s courtyard.
The courtyard was very ordinary, and it reminded Zhao Chun of Tian Sangsang’s family courtyard. He noticed how warm and friendly the people here were toward him—except for one young woman. She was shorter and more robust than Jin Zhi, with sun-kissed wheat-colored skin and sharp, defined features. She was in the middle of chopping wood, her precise movements carrying a strength that even Zhao Chun, as a man, wouldn’t underestimate.
"Ah Yu, the guests are here. Stop chopping and go entertain them for a bit," Jin Zhi’s mother said irritably before switching back to a cheerful demeanor. "Big boss, please have a seat inside."
After saying that, Jin Zhi’s parents took her inside to discuss some matters.
Jin Yu finished chopping the wood, stood up, brushed off her clothes, and confidently led Zhao Chun into the sitting room.
She brought out the leftover holiday treats to serve him and poured him a warm cup of water. "Big boss, we don’t have anything particularly fancy here. Have some water to warm up a bit. Stay for lunch, and I’ll make something nice for you."
"Thank you." Zhao Chun accepted the water but didn’t drink it. Smiling, he said, "My name is Zhao. I’m not the boss."
Jin Yu stared at him curiously for a moment. "Are you my sister’s boyfriend?"
Zhao Chun let out a small laugh. "There’s no such relationship. I wouldn’t dare tarnish your sister’s reputation."
Jin Yu nodded slightly and remarked, "But you’re the first man my sister’s ever brought home."
Zhao Chun replied, "I’m here for something else." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Confused, Jin Yu scratched her braid absentmindedly, then stepped out of the sitting room, leaving Zhao Chun on his own. She returned moments later, apparently with mischief in mind.
"My sister is talking with my parents in the other room," she said.
Zhao Chun said, "Mm."
Jin Yu tilted her head and looked at him. "My sister told my parents that you’re her boyfriend."
Zhao Chun chuckled lightly. "Letting your sister hear you say that wouldn’t be good."
Jin Yu shrugged and said, "My sister didn’t hear it—I did. I overheard her say it. Don’t be oblivious; you could end up as my brother-in-law without realizing it."
Zhao Chun frowned, unsure if she was telling the truth or simply teasing him. This girl had a sharp tongue, as if she bore some grudge against her sister.
She returned to the courtyard to continue chopping wood, her technique fluid and practiced.
Quietly, Zhao Chun moved to stand beside her, his eyes bright. "Do you know how to act?"
Jin Yu thought for a moment before replying, "I know how to perform opera."
"I’m not talking about opera—I mean acting," Zhao Chun clarified. "Have you ever watched a movie?"
"Sometimes they show films at the village entrance. I’ve watched loads," Jin Yu said excitedly, nodding rapidly. "The last one we saw was ’Lushan Love.’ Everyone in the village said it was great. Hey, wait—???" She abruptly turned to him, startled, staring at him with wide eyes and pointing at him rather rudely. "You—you—you’re one of those... actors?!"
"Yes." Zhao Chun curved his lips slightly. "What I’m talking about is acting. I think you’d be great at it."
Jin Yu panicked and shook her head fervently. "I can’t do it! I wouldn’t dare! Zhou Yun is so much prettier! Do you know Zhou Yun?"
"Your sister’s boss," Zhao Chun said, finding it easy to chat with her now. His tone had grown more relaxed.
Jin Yu grew even more animated. "So are you and Zhou Yun a couple?"
That question threw Zhao Chun. His dark eyes flickered as he froze in place.
After a long pause, he quietly but firmly responded, "No."
Jin Yu sighed in disappointment. "You should be! I really hope the two of you end up together." As she spoke, Jin Zhi and her parents reemerged from the house.
Jin Zhi’s father smiled broadly and said, "Big boss, thank you so much for taking care of my daughter and helping our family out in such a big way. You absolutely must join us for lunch; I’ll have Jin Zhi prepare something nice."
Jin Zhi looked hopefully at Zhao Chun.
Zhao Chun declined politely, saying, "It’s good that everything’s resolved, but I need to head out. I won’t stay for lunch."
Jin Zhi’s mother tried to persuade him, but Jin Zhi stepped forward. "Mr. Zhao, are you leaving? Let me walk you out."
No matter what, Jin Zhi insisted on accompanying him, and Zhao Chun could only let her.
The two walked out of the village, side by side.
Suddenly, a hurried male voice called out from behind them: "Jin Zhi... Jin Zhi!"
