Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s-Chapter 438 - 423 Goodbye, the past
Seeing him so humbled at this moment, Tian Sangsang only felt it was ironic. She coldly withdrew her hand. "What difference does it make if you say it earlier or later? Jiang Jinghuai, don’t you think your attitude has changed too much? Because you found out I was pregnant, you changed. You feel sorry for me only because of the child in my belly; it has nothing to do with me. Even if you feel guilty towards the baby, I’m telling you now, you don’t have a chance. The child is mine, and I’ll never let it belong to your family. That includes Yanyan—they’re all mine!"
It’s not just about the child. Jiang Jinghuai continued kneeling but stayed silent. Whatever he said now would be unnecessary; the damage was already done. He didn’t want to defend himself; he only wanted to treat her better from now on.
"Leave, I want to rest." She wearily dismissed him, leaning over to lie down. But he didn’t leave. Through the haze, she could feel him lightly leaning on her, whispering "I’m sorry" again and again, even wetting the bedspread with his tears. But so what? It no longer mattered to her.
**
When Tian Sangsang woke up again, she was very surprised to see Jiang Jinghuai.
Seeing her attempt to get up, Jiang Jinghuai quickly moved to help her.
She avoided his hands and got up clumsily on her own, leaning against the pillow to glare at him coldly.
Under her icy stare, Jiang Jinghuai felt a deep panic, like a little boy who had done something wrong.
"Sangsang, are you hungry?" He pressed his thin lips together and said, "I asked Aunt Zhang to make chicken soup for you."
He busied himself over there, and once it was ready, he held the steaming bowl of chicken soup carefully, with a hint of flattery in his demeanor.
Seeing the steaming chicken soup and smelling its delicious aroma, Tian Sangsang’s stomach almost growled. She was indeed hungry, but she refused to eat anything from him or his family.
Since she had already said it, the child in her womb had nothing to do with him and never would. She was determined to cut ties with him and his family. She could raise the child on her own.
"Eat it yourself." Tian Sangsang glanced at him indifferently. "You look worse than I do."
The sudden concern warmed Jiang Jinghuai’s heart, but when he met her cold gaze, it instantly chilled again. His tone carried a trace of pleading. "Please eat some, okay?" Her body was so fragile, it didn’t even look like she was pregnant.
"I’m not eating it. If you don’t want it, give it to your mother." She lifted the quilt and was about to get out of bed.
"Sangbao." Jiang Jinghuai was so startled he quickly set down the bowl to help her.
Tian Sangsang thought he was being ridiculous and scooted further to the edge of the bed. But the more she moved away, the more worried he became, trying to steady her. He finally had to compromise. "Where are you going?"
"To the restroom." Tian Sangsang really wanted to roll her eyes.
Jiang Jinghuai: "I’ll go with you."
"Please, this is a hospital. The restrooms are separated by gender. This isn’t home." She furrowed her brows. "If you go into the women’s restroom, aren’t you afraid of being arrested for being a pervert?"
This side of her, this tone of hers—distant yet playful, teasing yet serious. This was Tian Sangsang, the mischievous Tian Sangsang he used to know.
Jiang Jinghuai gazed deeply at her and slowly curved his lips into a smile.
She’s back.
Tian Sangsang made a motion to hold her forehead. Even with her sour expression, Jiang Jinghuai could still smile like this. Ugh... she really didn’t know what to say...
Jiang Jinghuai: "Then I’ll wait for you outside the restroom." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"...!!" Tian Sangsang felt like exploding.
Seeing her tightly furrowed brows, Jiang Jinghuai was startled. "Don’t get angry. The doctor said you shouldn’t get upset right now."
Oh, those sharp eyes of his, being able to tell she was angry. So why wasn’t he taking his food box and disappearing already? She was speechless, letting out a cold laugh as she walked out of the room.
Jiang Jinghuai grabbed her wrist.
She gritted her teeth and turned back. "Are you going to let me go to the restroom or not?"
"I’ll wait here for you." Jiang Jinghuai slowly released her hand, stubbornly giving her one last look.
Tian Sangsang glanced back; he didn’t follow her this time, and only now did she feel relieved. She really did have to pee urgently—after all, she’d been lying in bed for so long. After taking care of her needs in the restroom, she walked straight downstairs.
Standing at the hospital entrance, she tilted her head back and squinted at the sky, a bright smile spreading across her face.
A new life, a new beginning, here I come!
I, Tian Sangsang, am back again!
The past can go to hell!
Jiang Jinghuai, who had already walked out of the hospital room, saw through the window the woman with light steps walking on the street, his eyes filled with complicated emotions.
When Tian Sangsang arrived at her shop, the door was open, as expected, and inside she saw everyone.
"Mom!" Meng Shuyan saw her and ran over to her.
But as he got closer, he suddenly stopped abruptly, afraid of bumping into her belly.
However, in halting so suddenly, he lost balance, about to fall forward. Tian Sangsang crouched and caught him in her arms.
"You’re back, Mom," Meng Shuyan whispered in her embrace. "I was so scared." When his mom fainted, he was terrified, afraid he’d never see her again.
"Don’t be scared, it’s okay. Mom’s back and won’t leave again." She hugged the little boy and kissed him gently.
His eyes were red, clearly having cried. Seeing how pitiful he looked, Tian Sangsang felt tears well up herself. She’d made her son sad and cry so many times. At his age, he should be carefree and innocent. But her Yanyan—his tears could almost fill West Lake.
"It’s good that you’re back. Go upstairs and eat." Grandma Tian said with concern. "You’ve had a long day; you must be hungry."
Everyone wordlessly agreed to avoid mentioning the upsetting matters. Grandma Tian, too, seemed to have given up on the idea of Tian Sangsang living at the Jiang Family’s place. That mother-in-law of hers was truly unbearable. If Sangsang had to stay under her constant scrutiny, it would surely lead to a miscarriage. For the sake of her granddaughter’s safety, it was better to keep her far away from that madwoman!
"Alright, Grandma, I’ll just close up the shop first."
Grandma Tian could see her real intention and sighed. "You all head upstairs; I’ll handle the shop door."
"When you fainted earlier, it really scared us. Your grandmother even went out specifically to buy a duck to make you some soup to nourish your body. Eat plenty, okay?" Aunt Tian brought over a pot of duck soup.
"Alright." Tian Sangsang was indeed starving.
The table was covered with dishes; everyone’s rice bowls were already filled. Tian Sangsang glanced worriedly at the quiet Meng Shuyan beside her. He sat there like a timid little rabbit, pitiful and endearing. With a small spoon in hand, he carefully ate his rice, his movements both practiced and hesitant.
"Yanyan, have some duck meat." She picked out a tender, modest-sized piece and placed it in his bowl.
Meng Shuyan’s eyes curved into half-moons as he smiled happily.
Among all the recent events, it was Meng Shuyan who had suffered the most. Grandma Tian and Aunt Tian felt heartbroken for the child as well.
Tian Sangsang was so hungry that she dug into her food. Strangely enough, she no longer felt nauseous; her appetite had significantly improved. She ate three whole bowls of rice, several dishes, and some soup. When she was finished, she couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed—how could she have eaten so much? But the strange thing was, she still wanted more.
