Chapter 75: Arrival at the mansion.

Soon after, Sylus arrived at the mansion.

The moment Aria landed in front of the building, guards who were standing by quickly cornered the bird. Their weapons were aimed.

"Who are you?" the lead guard asked, spear aimed at the bird’s head.

Aria was tempted to bite the man’s head off, but alas, he didn’t act.

Then, Sylus leaped down from the bird, alongside Zani.

Touching the ground with his feet allowed everyone to get a good look at his face.

"Prince Sylus."

They all let out in unison.

One by one, they dropped their weapons, falling to their knees with their heads bowed.

"We are sorry, Your Highness; we were not informed of your arrival."

Sylus stared at the man for a while.

He had long black hair, but his armor was dirty. Not to mention, he didn’t look in the best form as well.

A regular man could most likely overpower him if they were to ever fight.

"Are you the one in charge of the security around here?" Sylus asked.

The man twitched a bit, shaking in fear.

Normally, when one is afraid, they always try their best to hide it, but this man didn’t do that—he was visibly shaking.

When looking at the scene from an outsider’s perspective, you could be fooled into thinking Sylus had somehow threatened him.

"Y-yes, Your Highness, I beg you to spare my life; it will never happen again."

Sylus turned his gaze to the rest of the soldiers, and they all had the same reaction. They were terrified.

They were even worse than the soldiers he ran into at the city’s gate.

He sighed out loud.

"Raise your head."

"I could never look you in the eye, Your Highness."

"That was an order."

Shaking, the man raised his head, looking at Sylus with trembling lips and watery eyes.

To everyone’s surprise, Sylus went on one knee and placed one hand on the man’s shoulder.

"Before the sunset, I promise to make you a man of status; you have my word. You will be rewarded for your endurance and hard work. Every single one of you."

Something about the way Sylus said those words touched their hearts. If they weren’t warriors, they would have probably cried like fragile women.

Although they couldn’t smile, Sylus could still tell they were grateful to hear those comforting words.

Whether believable or not, they didn’t seem to care.

Sylus now stood up.

"I plan on eradicating the plague that has tormented this city for a long time. Gather the entire army and send news to every soldier, except those in further regions. They are to gather in front of the mansion without delay."

"A-as you wish."

The man bowed and ran, intending on doing as Sylus said without fail. The remaining soldiers did the same, all of them scattering with horses.

Now that that was settled, Sylus entered the mansion, storming in without knocking.

As he entered, he ran into a single maid, who was carrying a vase of flowers.

"Your Highness." She quickly placed the vase on the ground and bowed.

People seemed to recognize him more than he thought.

"Where is your Count?" Sylus asked.

"Would you like me to take you to him, or should I get him for you?"

Suddenly, before Sylus could reply, someone wearing red fell from the ceiling, their knife aimed directly at him.

Zani acted swiftly.

A single ring popped up around her head as she raised her hand to the sky, allowing a dark thorn to grow from the side of the upper wall and stab the individual in the chest while they were falling.

Dead, the individual was left falling to the ground after the thorn disappeared.

"It seems they know about our arrival. Are they foolish enough to ambush?" Zani whispered to herself.

While the maid was terrified, Sylus was still rather calm.

He had already sensed the person on the roof even before they fell. But he knew Zani would handle it—and she didn’t fail to disappoint.

He soon returned his attention to the maid, who was still standing there in a state of shock.

"Take me to him."

...

A few moments later.

Sylus and Zani were standing in front of the guest room; the door was locked.

The maid knocked, her voice shaking as she announced,

"L-Lord Eric, the third prince is here to see you."

Almost immediately, the door opened, Alfred’s head peeking out.

At first, he looked suspicious, but as soon as he realized it was actually Sylus, a smile appeared on his face.

"It’s truly you, sire," he said, opening the door widely.

"How is our guest?" Sylus voiced out, walking elegantly into the room.

Zani followed behind him after giving Alfred a slight bow.

"I kept them in the castle as you have instructed." Alfred closed the door.

Even before Sylus found a place to sit down, he already saw the Count, tied to the opposite chair, his mouth stuffed with a rag.

The red-covered man was on the floor next to him; he was also bound, with his back against the floor.

’So this is the Count? I have never met him before. Tch, why are they always fat? He looked way slimmer in the picture when my father gave him the position.’

With both hands under his jaw and his legs crossed, Sylus sat down on one of the couches without saying a word.

Staring into the eyes of the terrified Count, Sylus sighed before speaking.

"I would like to ask him some questions. Zani, do you mind?"

"Right away." Zani walked towards the Count, and with force, she pulled the rag out of his mouth.

A single tooth flew from his mouth, causing blood to leak down his lips.

"My tooth!" the man yelled.

"Keep your mouth shut. You’re in the presence of the prince." Zani shot the Count a disgusted glance.

As much as he wanted to clap back, he knew better than to do so to the prince’s Mystero.

Instead, he forced a smile with his missing tooth, facing the prince.

"My lord, I think there has been a misunderstanding. I don’t understand why I am being tied up like this."

Sylus stared at him.

"You will."
