Chapter 516: Chapter 516: Father’s Origins

Hearing Sterling Norwood’s voice, Selena Kensington’s worried heart relaxed.

She smiled slightly, "It’s nothing, just wanted to ask what you’re up to."

Sterling’s calm voice replied, "In the training camp, don’t worry, nothing like last time will happen."

"Well, okay, come back soon."

"Okay."

After talking to Sterling, Selena hung up the phone.

Then, she went upstairs.

As soon as she entered the bedroom, Selena received a voice call on WeChat.

It was from Hugh Kensington.

Selena raised an eyebrow slightly. Since Hugh went to The Northern Realm with Felicity Dalton on New Year’s Eve, it had been over a week.

Other than occasionally sending her some photos on WeChat, Hugh hadn’t talked much to her.

This call from Hugh was quite unexpected for Selena.

She clicked to answer.

"What’s up? Finally remembered you have a sister?"

Selena said teasingly.

"..."

Hugh felt a bit helpless.

He gave a slight cough, "Sis, I’m calling to talk about something serious."

Selena heard Hugh’s words and put away her teasing expression.

She said seriously, "Go ahead."

Could it be that Hugh had really found some clues about their father’s ancestry?!

Hugh’s voice came through.

"The day before yesterday, we arrived at the origin of clocks outside the realm, and have been searching in several old clock shops in the city, hoping someone knows a shred about the pocket watch."

"And then?"

Selena’s brow furrowed slightly.

Hugh continued, "Just today, we found something."

Upon hearing Hugh’s words, a flash of shock passed through Selena’s eyes, and she eagerly asked, "What do you mean!?"

Hugh proceeded to recount today’s journey of searching with Felicity for clues about the pocket watch.

They had visited several old clock shops in the city, asking all week, nearly covering the whole city.

Finally, just when Hugh felt disappointed and ready to give up, they walked into the last clock shop.

The appearance of this clock shop was quite rustic, even the shop sign was casually placed outside.

If one didn’t look closely, they wouldn’t even recognize it was a clock shop.

The shopkeeper was a very elderly man, wearing glasses and hunching over as he repaired a clock in his hands.

Wearily, Hugh placed the pocket watch on the table.

"Hello, may I ask if you know which shop this insignia belongs to?"

The old man turned leisurely upon hearing Hugh’s question. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

He gazed at the artistic ’Luqaan’ insignia on the back of the pocket watch.

A gleam of clarity broke through his murky gaze.

He shook his head slightly.

Just as Hugh was about to leave disappointedly again, the old man’s voice suddenly rang out.

"Young man, you started off in the wrong direction."

Hugh turned his head sharply, looking incredulously at the old man.

"Shopkeeper, do you know the meaning of this insignia?!"

The old man stroked his beard and pointed at the insignia, "Luqaan is not the name of a clock shop."

After hearing the old man’s words, Hugh and Felicity exchanged a glance.

"Then what does it mean?"

The old man continued, "Luqaan, in a small country outside The Northern Realm, means pledge. In that country, whenever someone sets out on a journey, those seeing them off carve ’Luqaan’ on gifts to signify that, despite the distance, they will still honor their promise and their affection remains unchanged."

Hugh pursed his lips slightly.

So, Luqaan is merely symbolic?

Wait...

Hugh suddenly raised his eyes, "Old man, how come you know so much?"

Hugh and Felicity had visited so many clock shops in the city these past few days, yet none could clarify the essence behind this insignia.

But this shopkeeper saw it right away.

The old man stroked his beard, a gleam passing through his eyes.

"...Because, the one who made this mark back then, was indeed me."

"You?!..."

Hugh became somewhat excited.

"So you surely know the owner of this pocket watch!"

He and Felicity exchanged a glance, reading the excitement in each other’s eyes.

They thought they would end up disappointed, returning fruitless.

But unexpectedly, just as they were about to give up, such a dramatic turn occurred.

"Young man, don’t be hasty, first tell me how you came by this pocket watch."

Hugh paused for a moment and opened the pocket watch.

He pointed to the photo inside the watch, showing a baby being held, and said, "This baby is my father."

A flash of shock passed through the old man’s eyes.

"Little Han... still alive?! And has children?!"

"Old man, do you know my father?"

Seeing the old man’s expression, Hugh understood.

This shopkeeper must be an old acquaintance of his grandparents?

Without speaking, the old man set down his tools, walked around the counter, and came out.

"Let’s talk over here."

He pointed to a table and chairs in the shop.

Hugh and Felicity followed him and sat down.

"The first and last time I saw Little Han, he was this age as in the photo."

The old man sighed and continued, "It was a stormy day. I was about to close the shop and head home when Winston arrived with his family, knocking at the door."

"Winston?"

Hugh asked, curious.

The old man paused and then explained to Hugh, "Winston Kensington and Rachel Shaw, are your grandparents."

Hugh was taken aback but remained silent.

The old man continued speaking, "When Winston arrived, he and Rachel only brought Little Han."

After speaking, the old man glanced at Hugh again.

"They came in a hurry, hoping I could engrave the mark on the pocket watch I had previously made for them."

"Although I had doubts, I quickly helped them carve the mark."

"Later on, they took Little Han and left, and I never saw them again."

The old man finished with a sigh.

Hugh hurriedly asked, "Old man, do you know what my grandparents did?"

The old man paused, pondering.

"Winston and Rachel seemed to be staff at a research institute, though I don’t know what kind of institute it was."

"But later, Winston and Rachel kept moving from place to place, and the intervals between our meetings grew longer."

"Only then did I find out that they had discovered a secret of the institute and were being hunted down, forcing them to keep relocating."

"..."

A research institute?

So, his grandparents were researchers.

But what kind of secret was it that forced his grandparents to leave and brought them to the point of being hunted?

"Thank you, old man."

"Do you know if my father’s sister is still alive today?"

The old man shook his head, "The last time they came to find me, they didn’t bring Nancy."
