Chapter 228: Feeling of being cherished

"Wasn’t acupuncture lost ages ago? How could it reappear?"

"And in the hands of such a young girl?"

"But think about it," someone whispered. "If her medical skills weren’t extraordinary, how could she have refined a detoxification pill capable of countering the suffocating miasma?"

The House Ravens’ spirit warriors exchanged glances, relief finally appearing on their faces.

They had secretly worried that Zora might be unreliable.

Now, all such doubts were completely erased.

Everyone stared at Zora in astonishment, their minds spinning as they tried to sort truth from deception.

"Miss Zora," one of the House Ravens’ spirit warriors asked carefully, "don’t you have a detoxification pill or a potion?"

In their view, if a pill could solve everything, then this whole affair felt far more complicated than it should have been.

"I’m not a prophet," Zora replied calmly. "How could I possibly have a medicine prepared for every kind of poison?"

Her answer left the House Ravens’ spirit warriors exchanging uneasy looks. Even now, they still couldn’t determine whether the poison had truly come from her.

If so... then this time, they had been completely outplayed.

Yet just as suspicion lingered, everyone noticed the fine sweat on Zora’s brow and the pallor creeping across her face. Their expressions shifted instantly.

If she were the one who had poisoned Fiona, there would be no reason for her to exhaust herself like this. Let alone weaken herself right before entering the ancient ruins. That would be asking for trouble.

Could it be... that someone else had made a move in secret?

The thought made Fiona and the House Ravens spirit warriors’ faces darken. They had always been cautious within the clan, yet still, someone had managed to strike from the shadows. This matter would absolutely have to be investigated once they returned.

"Master, this is such a bad deal," White muttered anxiously. "Spending so much effort just to save that annoying woman..."

Compared to the inheritance inside the ruins, a so-called House Ravens favor really didn’t seem worth it.

Black felt the same. With his master’s temperament, she usually never did business at a loss.

Zora curled her lips faintly and replied through their soul connection, "Relax. I’m acting."

She had already thought everything through before taking action. The detoxification itself wasn’t complicated. The exhaustion and pallor were merely part of the act, meant to thoroughly mislead Fiona and the others.

As a physician, making herself look pale was hardly difficult.

"..."

Black and White fell silent.

Their master’s methods had once again exceeded their imagination.

This was no longer just clever. It was terrifying.

Without realizing it, they began to feel a little sympathy for the House Ravens’ spirit warriors. Right now, they were probably already tearing their hair out, wondering who had dared poison Fiona.

Even Prince Kael, wise as he was, couldn’t help but show a trace of worry when he saw Zora’s condition. He knew how controlled her strength usually was. If she truly overexerted herself now, it would be quite bad.

Finally, Zora withdrew the silver needles and said softly, "All done."

Fiona felt a wave of relief wash over her. She had truly been on the brink of collapse.

Turning around, she saw Zora’s pale face and found herself at a loss for words.

Was it really someone else from her own clan who had harmed her?

No matter what, Zora had saved her life. If she continued to act as arrogantly as before, she would only earn everyone’s contempt.

"Thank you," Fiona said stiffly.

She stood up, her expression awkward and complicated, then turned and walked away.

At this moment, no one could truly understand the turmoil in her heart.

Elowen and the others watched her retreating figure, their gazes unreadable. Fiona would likely behave herself for quite some time now.

And if she still harbored jealousy after all this, then that would truly be beyond redemption.

As the scene drew to a close, the atmosphere quietly settled into calm.

The earlier tension had all been stirred up by Fiona alone. Now that she had finally stopped provoking trouble, the crowd naturally fell silent, each mind occupied with its own thoughts.

Everything the House Ravens’ spirit warriors had offered was neatly tucked away into Zora’s storage pouch.

To her, great clans like the House Ravens were nothing more than well-fed sheep. Since they had already walked up on their own, there was no reason not to shear them cleanly.

Prince Kael walked over and sat beside her, lifting his thumb with a faint smile.

"My lady’s methods are truly exquisite."

Zora raised her brows, looking at him with an innocent expression.

"I didn’t do anything."

Hearing this, the Prince’s lips curved into a knowing, slightly wicked smile. His wife really was a little fox. As for her "doing nothing," he understood that better than anyone. No matter the situation, she never suffered a loss.

Then his expression softened, concern flashing through his eyes.

"Darling, you just helped detoxify Fiona. How do you feel now?"

As he spoke, he took out a bottle of recovery potion and brought it toward her lips.

Zora shook her head gently.

"Don’t worry, I’m fine."

But Prince Kael insisted, holding the bottle closer to her mouth. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"You’ll be entering the ruins soon. How can I feel at ease otherwise?"

Seeing the worry and tenderness in his eyes, a warm ripple spread through Zora’s heart, softening it in ways she hadn’t expected.

She had always hesitated when it came to him.

Part of it was the difference in their identities. No matter who she had been before, she was still only a general’s daughter, carrying old grudges she couldn’t easily cast aside.

Another part was doubt. She had once treated him. Perhaps his care for her was nothing more than gratitude.

Yet, little by little, especially after everything they had experienced together, the firmness in her heart began to melt.

Even now, though Prince Kael had never explicitly confessed his feelings, she could clearly sense them. And she realized something simple but precious.

As long as he stayed by her side, she felt happy.

That feeling of being cherished... it was truly wonderful.

Noticing her silence, Prince Kael looked up and caught the gentle spring-like light in her eyes. His heart stirred, and his smile deepened.

This journey to the ruins was worth it. More than any treasure, the closeness between him and his lady was the greatest gain.

"Really," Zora said softly, gently pushing away the potion, "the pale look was just an act. I’m not hurt at all. Keep the potion. You might need it later."

The Prince paused, then carefully studied her complexion. Seeing the color gradually return to her face, he finally relaxed, letting out a quiet sigh.

It seemed he still had much to learn about his lady’s tricks.

Not far away, Guinvere watched the scene between Prince Kael and Zora. A shadow slowly gathered in her eyes, and the fingers hidden within her sleeves clenched tightly.

She had never seen Prince Kael show such tenderness before.

That warmth... that gentleness... it was something she had dreamed of countless times in the dead of night.

And yet, he did have that gentleness.

Just not for her.

No.

That tenderness should have belonged to her.

Only three years had passed. She told herself she still had time.

One day, she would take back everything that was meant to be hers.

Just then, an exclamation rang out, and countless gazes snapped toward the ruins. "The restriction has completely faded!"
