Reborn as the Blissful Wife in the countryside-Chapter 700: No One Will Dare Bully You Again
The Gu Family People letting this secret out to the father and son shows their trust in them and they dare not betray such trust.
Upon hearing this, Father Luo rebuked Luo Wu: "Be sensible, boy. Everyone’s night has been ruined because of you, even missing out on Dongzhi celebrations. Go back and apologize to Uncle Dashan and Aunt Dashan, then kneel for a day to avoid repeating such foolishness in the future."
Luo Wu nodded without any dissatisfaction, merely hoping that the Gu Family would allow him to enter the home, to see Sister Xiu and not block him.
Turning his head, he sneakily glanced at Gu Jin’an walking behind him. Seeing Gu Jin’an’s stern face and hearing his cold snort upon catching his gaze, Luo Wu knew the Gu Family was genuinely angry and he felt annoyed with his own stupidity. If he had been smarter and seen through the Xia couple’s true colors earlier, he wouldn’t be facing these difficulties.
Before long, they walked out of the flower hall’s courtyard. The Head of Xia Family saw them and quickly asked: "You haven’t done anything to our Old Master, right?"
The Gu Family People came with imposing momentum, including several lads skilled in martial arts. The village chief was worried something might have happened to the Old Master.
Then looking at Gu Jin’an, he said: "Good Brother An, the Old Master of our family has treated you like his own child. You mustn’t harm him."
Gu Jin’an frowned and said, "My father isn’t dead yet. I don’t lack Xia Gu’s paternal love."
Hearing this, the Head of Xia Family’s face turned ugly: "How can you say such things, Brother An?"
Gu Jinli was fed up with the Xia Family People and interrupted the Head of Xia Family: "Now this manor belongs to our family. Keep everything in this manor intact. If even a single blade of grass is missing, I’ll demand compensation."
Having said that, he ignored the astonishment of the Head of Xia Family and the Protectors and called out to Zezi and Qiu Lang: "Let’s go, time to head back home."
"Yes," responded Zezi and Qiu Lang, who had not entered the manor but had been guarding the gate, fearing any foul play from the Head of Xia Family. Seeing Gu Jinli and the others come out safe and sound, they immediately went to drive the mule cart.
The mule cart was not far from the courtyard’s entrance. They had chased after Luo Wu by driving it directly into the manor.
"Young Master, Young Master, get on the cart," called out Qiu Lang and Zezi. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Coming," answered Gu Dashan, who, together with Father Luo and Luo Wu, got onto the mule cart. Then he said to Gu Jinli, "Xiao Yu, Hui Niang, hurry up and get on the mule cart Brother Lang is driving. We are heading back."
"Okay," responded Gu Jinli, helping Luo Huiniang onto another mule cart.
After seeing the two of them on board, Gu Jin’an then got onto the mule cart where Gu Dashan was.
"Let’s roll!" Qiu Lang declared, cracking the whip to send the mule cart darting out of the manor.
Knowing that the Gu Family People had something to say to Luo Wu, San Lang rode his horse home while leading Luo Wu’s horse.
On the mule cart, Luo Wu bowed his head and said, "...I’m sorry."
With a thud, Father Luo smacked Luo Wu on the back, angrily saying, "Straighten your back when you speak! Have I not taught you this since you were young?"
He sighed inwardly, feeling that Luo Wu cared for Sister Xiu so deeply, placing her at the tip of his heart, refusing to let her suffer even the slightest grievance, which only fed his growing inferiority complex.
Gu Jin’an looked at Luo Wu, who had learned quite a few poems and songs in the last couple of years, many of which contained depictions of romantic sentiments... Love deepens, spirit weakens; Brother Wu’s feelings for my elder sister are just like that.
But didn’t Brother Wu understand what my elder sister wanted?
Gu Jin’an had grown up with Luo Wu and remembered how he used to protect them, siblings. Remembering the past kindness of Luo Wu, he couldn’t help but say, "My sister only likes to spend her days with people she is familiar with. Even if it’s better or more prosperous and wealthy outside, she won’t like it, and might even be afraid of the unfamiliar."
If the eldest sister really wanted to marry into a rich and noble family, he would have made use of the Zheng and Shangguan family connections to find a match for her two years earlier. But the eldest sister didn’t wish to marry far away; she had always been waiting for Luo Wu, hoping to marry the neighbor so she could often return to her parents’ home.
"...I’m sorry." Luo Wu, overwhelmed with guilt, felt tears well up in his eyes: "I just felt I wasn’t worthy of her and was afraid that marrying her would confine her to a life of hardship in the countryside."
Father Luo could not bear to listen any longer: "What are you thinking, boy? If you don’t want Sister Xiu to live a tough life, then work hard and strive! As a man, are you scared you can’t carve out a future?"
After scolding Luo Wu, he began to blame himself... It was also his fault for having hidden away in the countryside to avoid people and things from the past. If he, as a father, could have made something of himself, Brother Wu wouldn’t have had such thoughts of feeling unworthy of Sister Xiu.
Father Luo’s words didn’t bring much comfort to Luo Wu’s heart. He had tried his best, struggling for three years, and yet he was still just a squad leader earning a monthly income of three taels of silver, while San Lang had already become a Company Commander.
Gu Dashan felt very sorry for Luo Wu, and seeing him lower his head with tears, Gu Dashan’s eyes reddened as well, patting Luo Wu’s back and saying, "Let’s not talk about this, let’s go home first."
But Luo Wu knew he was at fault and couldn’t just gloss over the matter. Kneeling in the mule cart, he kowtowed to Gu Dashan: "Uncle Dashan, I’m sorry."
He didn’t know how many times he had said sorry, but he knew apologizing like this was the least effective way.
Gu Jin’an frowned and pulled him up: "Sit properly. If you really feel guilty, you should be thinking about how to treat my sister well."
Although Gu Jin’an appreciated Luo Wu’s sentiment, his elder sister was his own flesh and blood. Compared to Luo Wu, he cared about Gu Jinxiu even more, hence he added one final remark: "Don’t let my sister down again."
Luo Wu nodded and pleaded, "Can I go to see Sister Xiu after we get home?"
After a pause, he added, "No, no, it’s too late, Sister Xiu must have already gone to bed. Can I go to see her tomorrow?"
Gu Dashan, seeing how Luo Wu truly cared for his eldest daughter, felt somewhat relieved: "Let’s talk about it when we get home. If Sister Xiu isn’t asleep, you can go see her."
"Thank you so much, Uncle Dashan." Luo Wu was very grateful. The Gu Family People had always been so good to him; it was he who had given up first, and he deserved to die.
Luo Wu was lucky; by the time they got home, it was nearly dawn, but Gu Jinxiu had spent the entire night waiting without sleep.
Brother Cheng was dozing off on the armrest of the chair where Gu Jinxiu was sitting, having waited himself to sleep.
Third Grandpa, Third Grandma, and Mrs. Cui also hadn’t slept.
Ms. Chu had been home for more than two hours before running back to the Gu Family to wait for news, and now she was also sitting in the Gu Family’s dining hall.
Everyone was waiting like that, and when they heard the sound of the mule cart, they quickly grabbed torches and rushed out.
Luo Wu, seeing the Gu Family right before his eyes, felt apprehensive, but when he saw Gu Jinxiu’s anxious face, he didn’t have the time to be timid. Instead, he rushed to her and said, "Don’t be afraid; no one will dare to bully you from now on."
When Gu Jinxiu heard this, seeing the determination on his face, her heart, suspended for months, finally settled down, and she smiled at him, "I believe in Brother Luo Wu."
Ever since childhood, Brother Luo Wu had always kept his word, no matter how difficult the promise was.
Gu Jinli: "..."
This sour smell of love; big sister, have some reserve, don’t let your eyes shine so brightly.
Perhaps sensing Gu Jinli’s gaze, after saying that sentence, Gu Jinxiu just smiled and gave Luo Wu a glance before retreating to stand behind Mrs. Cui.
