Reborn As Super Heiress-Chapter 1739 - 1642: Betrayal
Back in the room, Huo Sining quietly began to wait for the upcoming showdown after making calls to Yu Fei and Gu Xu.
However, after a while, she suddenly thought of something and dialed the phone to Xie Yuxing’s room.
"Ningning, is there something you need?"
Xie Yuxing had been in contact with Huo Sining more recently and felt more and more that they shared many similar values and interests. Naturally, the relationship became closer, and she stopped addressing her as Miss Huo, calling her Ningning instead to show intimacy.
Huo Sining chuckled, "You had a hard time filming today with the wire stunt, didn’t you? I mentioned before that I learned Qigong Massage Technique from an old master, and I can give you a session to relieve some stress. Why don’t you come over?"
Xie Yuxing had just finished her shower and was lying on the bed, thinking of asking Su Xin to give her a massage. She had filmed several fight scenes with wire stunts during the day, and her whole body was uncomfortable, especially the spots on her shoulders and thighs where the wires had pressed, which were all bruised.
Xie Yuxing was not a martial arts star, so filming fight scenes was particularly taxing. Hearing that Huo Sining knew Qigong Massage, her eyes lit up, and without hesitating, she happily agreed.
Su Xin was tidying up the room’s clutter. Upon hearing Xie Yuxing say she was going to Huo Sining’s room to get a massage, she suddenly panicked, becoming flustered and at a loss for what to do.
She knew better than anyone else that since Su Lingxue and Huang Jingwen had her place that box of "Pearl Powder" in Huo Sining’s room, they wouldn’t just abandon their plan.
Su Xin was well aware that to avoid prolonging the issue and having Huo Sining discover the "Pearl Powder"’s existence, Su Lingxue and her crew would likely act tonight!
Act if they must, Su Xin knew the issue would eventually fizzle out, but she never intended for Xie Yuxing and herself to get dragged into it.
If Xie Yuxing went to find Huo Sining and things went down, and they both happened to be in Huo Sining’s room when it happened, they’d have no way to clear their names.
Su Xin was overwhelmed with panic, her face turned pale, looking completely out of sorts.
"Su Xin, what’s wrong? Why do you look so worried?"
Su Xin was already at a loss, and hearing Xie Yuxing’s question, she dared not speak the truth and quickly shook her head, "It’s nothing, I guess I’m just tired today; I need to rest and I’ll be fine."
Under normal circumstances, Su Xin’s response might pass, and Xie Yuxing wouldn’t suspect anything.
Yet, for a reason she couldn’t explain, Xie Yuxing suddenly recalled the strange smiles on Su Lingxue and Huang Jingwen’s faces in the elevator earlier.
Having been in the entertainment circle for so long, Xie Yuxing was skilled at reading people. Seeing Su Xin’s demeanor, she felt something was off, a sudden flash of insight as if she realized something:
"Su Xin, are you hiding something from me?"
Su Xin was stunned, her face even paler. Her pupils shrank, and she instinctively avoided Xie Yuxing’s gaze, stammering:
"No... no, Sister Xing, why would you ask that? How could I hide anything from you?"
Xie Yuxing stared intently at her assistant. Despite her reluctance to believe her assistant would collude with Huan Rui and betray her, Xie Yuxing was no fool. Recalling Su Xin’s unease earlier at the film set and seeing her assistant’s nervous panic now, she was seventy percent sure.
A deep sense of disappointment and anger flashed across Xie Yuxing’s face:
"Su Xin, I remember when I first brought you along, you weren’t like this. Why are you now... What exactly did that bitch Su Lingxue make you do, tell me honestly!"
Su Xin froze, looking up at Xie Yuxing: "Sister Xing, how did you..."
Xie Yuxing gave a cold smile: "You’re asking how I knew, right? I’ve had a long-standing grudge with Su Lingxue. If she wanted to strike, she’d target my people. No one else could get close enough, except you, who is closest to me. You were the best choice for her! I just didn’t expect you to actually fall for their tricks, Su Xin. You’ve deeply disappointed me!"
Xie Yuxing closed her eyes, her expression complex. Finally, she turned, opened the door, and walked out:
"If you won’t tell me what they’ve had you do, I’ll just call the company to get a new assistant. You can go back tomorrow. Your heart’s not in the right place; I can’t keep you here anymore. Now, I’m going to Miss Huo’s, you... take care!"
Xie Yuxing already had her suspicions, knowing going to Huo Sining’s place was likely a trap, yet she resolutely headed to her room upstairs.
Because this mess was Su Xin’s doing, and she was her person. If she didn’t show her stance now, if anything happened, Huo Sining would surely suspect her first.
Feeling guilty toward Huo Sining, Xie Yuxing’s mind was filled with the need to clarify her stance to show Huo Sining she wasn’t behind Su Lingxue’s scheming, and also to face whatever may come together.
She wanted to see what her assistant had done for Su Lingxue that made the woman so smug she couldn’t hide her emotions, even in the elevator!
"Sister Xing, don’t go! You mustn’t go!"
Seeing Xie Yuxing about to walk out, Su Xin panicked and rushed after her to stop her from going upstairs.
But Xie Yuxing was determined, and wouldn’t heed her warnings. Even as the elevator closed, Xie Yuxing’s eyes showed a mocking look.
Su Xin blushed with shame, her eyes filled with regret and guilt, wishing she could disappear.
She was brought up by Xie Yuxing and had received much from her, yet she betrayed her.
Though she hadn’t intended for things to take this turn or directly embroil Xie Yuxing in the incident, she knew well that when the situation unfolded, with Huo Sining’s background and influence, tracing back responsibilities, Xie Yuxing wouldn’t come away unscathed.
Yet she still did it, and Xie Yuxing’s decision to let her go didn’t feel unjust.
But watching the elevator doors close, and seeing the disappointment and scorn in Xie Yuxing’s eyes, her heart still ached.
