Reborn As Super Heiress-Chapter 1458 - 1442: Exchanging Antiquities?
Upon hearing Huo Sining’s explanation, Adrian couldn’t help but burst into laughter:
"Haha, Huo, you’re the most interesting Easterner I’ve ever met. The Huaxia friends I knew before were all very reserved and subtle, they spoke in riddles, and I had to try hard to guess their meanings. You’re the first straightforward and truthful Easterner I’ve ever met."
Huo Sining replied with a smile, "But I am very sincere. It’s also my first time to know that an English gentleman is like Mr. Earl, a noble knight who is generous, kind, and affable."
Adrian was quite touched by the term "knight." While accompanying Huo Sining in looking at the antiques, he started to introduce the culture of English knights to her.
After conversing with the old gentleman for over two hours, Huo Sining finally managed to quickly browse through the items in the collection room.
However, after seeing them, Huo Sining grew increasingly overwhelmed with a sense of helplessness.
She knew very well that no matter how hard she worked in her lifetime, it would be impossible to bring these tens of thousands of antiques back to Huaxia Country.
"Mr. Adrien, I’ve gained a general understanding of these antiques. I won’t beat around the bush with you; let’s speak openly. I’d like to ask, what conditions would the Albert family require if these antiques were to return to Huaxia Country?"
Returning to the reception hall, Huo Sining adjusted herself from the earlier shock, sat upright, and looked sincerely at the elderly Earl, communicating her intention through her gaze.
Adrian was evidently a bit surprised as well. He lifted his head and stared at Huo Sining for a full five seconds before bursting into laughter: "Miss Huo, are you joking? Do you really want these antiques to return to Huaxia Country?"
Huo Sining nodded, "Mr. Earl, you should know I’m not good at making such jokes. I’m very serious about discussing this issue with you. In fact, a few months ago, I just applied for a private collection museum project, which is currently under construction. I’ve spared no expense for this museum, so there’s no need to doubt my sincerity. Yes, I do have my eye on those Huaxia antiques in your collection room."
Adrian could no longer laugh. He looked at Huo Sining with an incredulous expression:
"Huo, you astonish me. I never knew there was such a chivalrous warrior among Eastern women. I think you’re like a lone hero from a movie. These antiques belong to Huaxia Country, but why fight alone?"
Huo Sining laughed, "No, actually, I’m not fighting alone. Adrian, as long as the Albert family states the conditions, there will be more people like me in Huaxia Country willing to step forward. We’re all willing to make efforts and sacrifices to see our Huaxia treasures return to their homeland."
Adrian was silent for a while before speaking: "Huo, I understand your thoughts, and I can appreciate your strong patriotism, but these antiques aren’t as simple as you think. The Albert family will not agree to this proposal, because the value of Huaxia’s antiques can’t simply be measured in money. It’s historical civilization, and we can’t estimate its true value with money."
Hearing Adrian’s words, Huo Sining’s expression stiffened. She knew her request was too direct and reckless.
The gentlemanly manners of the English make them appear cordial and approachable, but they’re not fools when it comes to the value of these antiques. Adrian’s understanding is not inferior to Huo Sining’s, so he will not allow himself to suffer a loss in this regard.
Forcing a wry smile, Huo Sining said somewhat disappointedly, "I understand, Mr. Earl. I was too abrupt. This is originally an unsolvable problem. If it were easy to solve, there would be no need for me to ask, and Huaxia Country would have already handled it appropriately."
Seeing Huo Sining’s heavy heart, Adrian felt a pang of guilt. His blue eyes flashed in their sockets, ultimately unable to bear it, he spoke up:
"Trading with money certainly won’t work, but I can discuss with the family elders to grant you some rights. If you have European antiques worthy of our action, we’re willing to exchange part of the Huaxia artifacts with you."
Huo Sining was taken aback and asked uncertainly, "European antiques?"
Adrian nodded, "I love Huaxia culture, but the Albert family is actually more committed to European civilization. Especially some elders in our family, they are more inclined toward European antiques, such as paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and so on. If you have European artifacts valuable enough to move those elders, I think they will agree to exchange them with Huaxia antiques."
Huo Sining’s heart paused. She hadn’t thought of using this method to reclaim Huaxia artifacts. In fact, she had been focusing on collecting Huaxia antiques for the past year or two and knew little about foreign, especially European, antiques.
However, Adrian’s suggestion was not without merit. With a bit of contemplation, Huo Sining realized this is currently the most feasible approach.
Though this method seemed laborious and thankless, Huo Sining knew that with so many Huaxia artifacts, she might never be able to reclaim them all even if she spent her whole life trying. But if she could reclaim even one, she would try, no matter how small the impact.
"Mr. Adrien, thank you very much for your honesty. I think I know what to do now."
A hint of a smile appeared on Huo Sining’s face, and she solemnly bowed to the elderly Earl, thanking the old gentleman for his kindness and sincerity.
Adrian also smiled, "No need to thank me. You’re the most knowledgeable and extraordinarily charismatic Eastern woman I’ve ever met. If I were twenty years younger, I would certainly spare no effort in pursuing you. I find you dazzling, like a true queen, compelling knights to kneel at your feet."
Huo Sining couldn’t help but burst out laughing, "Mr. Earl, your words are making me blush. I appreciate your compliment, but I like your antiques more. If you don’t mind, I would love to rent some antiques from you for exhibition when my private museum opens, even if it’s just for a month or a week."
