Reborn as Powerful Minister's Beloved-Chapter 664: Untitled - 2
Regarding spells, Nanmen Yu’s exposure was not deep, but there had been a lineage among the Nanmen Death Soldiers, whose demonstrated strength was highly valued by Nanmen Yu.
If it were possible to discover secrets about spells from Yin He that went further than the Western Border’s knowledge, it would undoubtedly play a direct role in enhancing this lineage.
"King, this young man’s spells are very strange, but I can assure you, they are derived from Nanmen State’s secret tradition of spells," the guard said with conviction, having investigated again recently and now quite certain.
Nanmen Yu nodded; it seemed to be as he had anticipated. Nanmen Yu was not indulging in wild fantasies; it was indeed plausible.
Back when spells were common in Nanmen State, cultivators of spells had control over the Nanmen State. Since the rebellion, selections for the Imperial Palace had to be extremely strict, but these were just selections. The significance of such selections, and the further training one should undergo after breaking through, had long been lost in Nanmen State. It seemed as though this rigorous selection had become the result.
However, Nanmen Yu felt that it was only the beginning.
In Nanmen Yu’s view, the strangeness of Yin He seemed to be intricately connected with Nanmen State.
"Follow him, monitor the situation at all times, and find out what they are doing in the Western Border," Nanmen Yu commanded briefly, though he had a rough idea—the young man was gravely injured, and it was highly likely that there was a way to heal him in the Western Border.
"Yes—"
...
A group of fast horses dashed across the path in the forest, where the dry weather hardened the dirt, kicking up dust, making it much harder for carriages to pass.
The corner of the carriage’s curtain lifted, revealing a pair of eyes dark and deep as ink, scanning the surroundings vigilantly before dropping the curtain. Xing Yu had already approached, looking at Yin He.
"How are we doing? Where are we now?" Xing Yu asked eagerly.
"We should be close," Yin He said slowly, scoffing in his heart, "We’ll find a chance to leave tomorrow."
"But..." Xing Yu hesitated, wondering if Nammen Yu’s people could save Yin He. Nanmen Yu had said that the spells could very likely originate from Nanmen State, perhaps Nanmen Yu had a way...
The young man snorted when he saw Xing Yu’s expression, wondering why that old man had taken this girl captive before he left, instead of capturing Nian Ru.
How could Nanmen Yu sincerely want to help him? In the first two days, perhaps Nanmen Yu didn’t realize that the energy he input could help him regain consciousness, in a way saving him again. But afterwards, it was impossible not to know that the energy being absorbed into his body was gradually transforming the fumes, worsening his condition step by step.
Yet Nanmen Yu continued to do so, clearly indicating he wasn’t really trying to save Yin He; instead, he was trapping him.
"Do you think he is trying to save me?" the young man asked Xing Yu. In the past couple of days, every time they stopped to rest, Xing Yu’s outings became longer. He was not unaware; it was Nanmen Yu’s subterfuge at play.
"I don’t understand those things, so let’s just leave tomorrow," Xing Yu suggested. They had to leave sooner or later, and maybe Nanmen Yu really didn’t intend to save Yin He sincerely. Perhaps it was safer to head to Sword Tree Forest.
The carriage rocked again, and the young man’s expression darkened a bit. Outside the carriage, horses sneezed, footsteps sounded, and the guards set up a campfire.
"King, shall we continue today?" the guard stepped forward, hesitant. He feared that the young man in the carriage wouldn’t be able to endure much more today and was afraid he would mess things up.
The guard had already thoroughly conveyed to Nanmen Yu the significance of this young man to Nanmen State’s current situation. This young man was key to finding the lost secrets and could very likely be the one to unlock them.
"Continue," Nanmen Yu commanded, his emphasis still on Xing Yu’s situation. Seeing Xing Yu’s mood gradually stabilizing over the past two days, earning his trust more than before, Nanmen Yu still wanted to know what exactly had happened on that day.
The guard wanted to speak further, but Nanmen Yu had already dismounted, and another guard immediately brought him a package.
Nanmen Yu personally took the package and walked toward the carriage at the back of the procession.
"He’s here—" The young man in the carriage didn’t even need to look to know Nanmen Yu was approaching. Glancing at Xing Yu, who was preparing to leave the carriage, didn’t dare to move. Xing Yu thought if Nanmen Yu could save Yin He, wouldn’t that give Yin He that much more chance to survive? Clearly, though, the young man did not want Nanmen Yu’s salvation.
