Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 542: Missing You Grows Like Wild Grass
Chapter 542: Chapter 542: Missing You Grows Like Wild Grass
After finishing her classes in the evening, Abigail, having dropped off Sophie Hope and Lena Locke, returned to the dining table, only to find Brandon Piers looking unhappy.
Beside him, Old Mr. Smith also had a visibly domineering expression.
Abigail thought the two had quarreled again and didn’t pay much attention.
It wasn’t until they finished dinner and Abigail was accompanying Old Mr. Smith that Church Smith suddenly asked her, "Have you noticed anything different about the way Sophie looks at Brandon?"
Abigail laughed at once. "Grandpa, you truly have keen eyes. Sophie is Brandon’s subordinate, specifically assigned to protect me."
Speaking with an uncontainable sweetness on her face.
Old Mr. Smith snorted coldly. "Falling in love turns you into an idiot. It’s hard to watch."
Abigail didn’t mind at all. Instead, she reminded him not to bully Brandon and then happily skipped upstairs to coax Teddy to sleep. After that, she headed to the gym to wait for Brandon.
But after completing a set of exercises, she still hadn’t seen Brandon come up. Puzzled, she went downstairs to check and found that Kelvin Max and Kennan Max had arrived at some point. Realizing Brandon was busy, she sensibly returned to her room.
She waited all night, but Brandon still didn’t come. Even Aunt Claudia, who had barged into Abigail’s room twice, dared not do so anymore.
Sunday was just like Saturday; Abigail had to care for the young and deal with the old. She wanted to find a chance to speak with Brandon but didn’t get one. When she finally rested and went to look for him, he was still busy discussing matters.
Although Abigail didn’t go in, she knew things weren’t simple since Kelvin had been coming frequently these days.
That night, Abigail still didn’t see Brandon.
The next morning, Abigail got up early to coax Teddy and carefully chose a long dress before rushing to the dining room, only to find Brandon had already finished breakfast. "Are you going out?"
Seeing the man in a suit, Abigail curiously asked.
"Yes, the Piers family, as the title sponsor of this international competition, has been invited to attend." Brandon deliberately emphasized the event’s name.
Abigail didn’t catch the deeper meaning. Seeing Kelvin already waiting, she nodded. "Alright, come back early tonight."
"Okay." Brandon gave Abigail a meaningful look, but seeing her guilty lowering her head with nothing to say to him, he turned and walked out coldly.
Hearing Brandon’s "okay" and seeing his glance, Abigail thought he noticed her little scheme, making her lower her head in slight embarrassment. With her family matters finally resolved, she could alleviate his torment a bit, so she didn’t notice the coldness in Brandon’s eyes. She eagerly awaited his return, even unable to focus on her classes.
As for Jeffrey Foster manipulating the competition, since Grandpa was safe, she didn’t get involved, thinking that even if Jeffrey had plans, they wouldn’t succeed.
She didn’t know an underground competition was being held beneath the public event.
And the Brandon she awaited all night didn’t return.
Every time Abigail called, Kelvin answered, saying Brandon was busy and would be staying at the hotel arranged by the organizing committee for the next three days.
Feeling very disappointed, Abigail guessed Brandon might be aiming to catch Uncle Piers and the Foster family during this competition to take full control of the Piers family.
But Abigail never imagined how unbearable it would be when you get used to someone’s presence, only for them to suddenly disappear.
For three whole days, Brandon didn’t return to Moon Lake Manor.
Abigail felt her longing growing wildly like weeds, but every time she sent Brandon a message, it felt like it sank into the ocean, making her increasingly worried.
On the fourth day, Abigail couldn’t hold back anymore and skipped class with Sophie.
She knew where the international arena was and wanted to go, even if just to catch a glimpse of Brandon from afar.
Sophie, though worried, couldn’t persuade Abigail in the end.
Thinking carefully, Sophie glanced at their school uniforms. "Let’s change our clothes. Brandon probably isn’t at the venue at this time."
Abigail was puzzled. "Not at the venue?"
"Yes."
"Then where is he?" Abigail reflexively wanted to call Brandon, but Sophie shook her head at her.
Abigail gave Sophie a puzzled look.
"Underground." Sophie answered reluctantly.
Abigail frowned. What was Brandon doing there?
But the next moment, she speculated, and Sophie confirmed her earlier thoughts, "The international competition is just a public event. The real contest is underground. Have you ever seen horse racing?"
Although Abigail hadn’t been to one, she knew how it worked.
Gamblers bet on horses with number plates. If it’s a combination bet and they continuously get the top horse, a ten-dollar bet can turn into tens of thousands or even millions overnight. In cities where horse racing is legal, many people go crazy for it.
"So they consider those competitors as horses?" Abigail paused for a while before softly asking.
Abigail had some understanding from Brandon’s explanations, but he clearly didn’t want her to know too much and downplayed it. Yet Sophie’s simple reference to horse racing made everything clear.
"Abigail, do you still want to go?" Sophie asked, looking at her.
Abigail nodded. For some reason, she wanted to see that man more. She didn’t know what role he played in this or if he was in danger.
"Alright then, I thought scaring you would make you give up." Sophie said regretfully.
Abigail smiled. So Sophie had been trying to scare her to stop her. But was Abigail that easy to deter?
The two dressed up a bit to look less like students. Especially Abigail who lightly applied some makeup. They then flagged down a cab and told the driver to head to the largest arena in Swallow City. The underground venue was beneath it.
Abigail’s actions were immediately reported to Brandon.
Brandon, looking gloomy, glanced at the half-open door of the opposite room. The other side had been winning for three days in a row, both above and below ground, without a single loss.
His doubts grew larger and larger.
He had found out the owner of that room was from the Foster family. But without the assistance of Abigail or Old Mr. Smith, how were they doing it?
His mind went back to reports from two bodyguards that day, also to Sophie’s hesitancy and Abigail’s guilty look when he returned from Gills City.
He didn’t want to suspect her, but everything pointed him in that direction...
Something was definitely off.
And why was Abigail here now? His defined fingers played with the signal-blocked phone. Was it because she sensed his anger and came to appease him? Or was it something else...
Without thinking further, he glanced at his watch, his face suddenly darkening. "Contact Sophie immediately."
As soon as he finished speaking, Kelvin raised his wrist. The watch on his wrist looked like an ordinary luxury watch, but it wasn’t just a watch. It was a micro-computer developed by ROSE Technology, capable of bypassing any signal blocks within a certain range.
After Kelvin sent out the message, there was no response from Sophie for a long time. Instead, the door of the opposite room suddenly opened and then closed.
At this time, the third round of today’s competition began.
