Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 530: Still Can’t Let Him Go
Chapter 530: Chapter 530: Still Can’t Let Him Go
The kindness extended to Abigail Green by the classmates of Clinical Medicine Class 02 did not change the overall malice directed at her.
Rumors about her continued to circulate in school.
Not every stranger would view others with the greatest kindness, especially when sex scandals were involved.
But these did not harm Abigail; in fact, because of her classmates’ attitude, she was quite satisfied with her college life.
The only ones who could truly hurt Abigail were the people she cared about the most.
Abigail had never known before how painful a cold war could be with someone.
Especially when there was a thorn in her heart, leaving her without a reason to reconcile.
But life had to go on.
It would not come to a halt just because you were in too much pain and needed time to adjust and heal.
Every morning, Abigail fed Teddy until she was full, played with her for a while, and then went for breakfast.
She even began to go to the gym regularly, but she did not speak to Brandon Piers.
The man also showed no intention of talking to her. They lived in the same space without any communication or interaction, as if they were living in parallel spaces, clearly close in distance yet without any intersection.
It was not until three days later that Aunt Claudia noticed something was wrong.
"Abigail, did you have a quarrel with Brandon?" Aunt Claudia asked softly when Abigail came home from school that afternoon, holding Teddy at the dinner table and eating while the kitchen made a bowl of millet porridge for the little one. Aunt Claudia, sitting nearby and watching, soon noticed something was wrong and asked after they returned to her room.
Abigail did not want to worry Aunt Claudia. "No, of course not. What makes you think we had a fight?"
"Don’t lie to me. You two didn’t say a word during dinner; there wasn’t even any eye contact. Does that seem right to you?" Aunt Claudia couldn’t forget how inseparable the two had been not long ago, hardly any distance between them, even when feeding Teddy.
She hadn’t paid much attention the past couple of days, but the more she thought about it today, the more it seemed off. Especially since Abigail had continued her exercises as usual, but had been sleeping with Teddy and Aunt Claudia every night, which was once normal, but since she and Brandon became close, it was no longer the norm.
"Really? I didn’t notice. Maybe you are overthinking it," Abigail made up an excuse to try to dismiss Aunt Claudia.
But caring for Teddy was a daily routine for Aunt Claudia, and the other thing she worried most about was Abigail. There was no way she would be easily dismissed.
"Whether I’m overthinking or not, you know in your heart. Abigail, I know you had a child at a young age and are naïve in matters of love, but no one is born knowing everything. Aunt Claudia might not know what happened between you two, but I know you’re both good kids. Don’t keep everything bottled up inside. Instead of torturing each other, talk it out. Don’t misunderstand each other." Aunt Claudia advised earnestly.
Abigail nodded, but thought that their issues could not be resolved through communication unless she could let go of the knot in her heart and accept the foolish things he’d done.
And Brandon needed to let go of what had happened that day.
But could that really be possible? She wasn’t sure.
At least in these past few days, the man hadn’t once attempted to explain where he had been or what had happened that night. Was there some misunderstanding?
Not once.
This disappointed her greatly.
Their chat history was still stuck on the day when she had sent him playful and sweet messages, and he had not responded since.
Could they really continue on like this forever? She did not want that.
"Abigail, remember what Aunt Claudia said," Aunt Claudia repeated seeing Abigail dazed and possibly not having taken her words to heart.
Abigail thought about it and nodded. "I’ll try."
Seeing Aunt Claudia’s worried look, Abigail decided to give herself one more chance, and also give Brandon one more chance. It was also an opportunity for their love.
Aunt Claudia felt somewhat relieved seeing Abigail finally relent.
Abigail soothed Teddy to sleep, then returned to her room. After some thought, she picked up her phone and dialed Jeffrey Foster’s number.
She had been hesitating over the past few days whether to investigate her previous life’s death in Jeffrey’s lab. After hearing what Aunt Claudia said just now, she suddenly felt that it was better to handle this matter first. Only if she adjusted her attitude would the man possibly reconcile about that day. Then they could sit down and have a proper conversation.
With this in her mind, Abigail took a deep breath.
Letting go of investigating her past life’s death was not an easy or light decision for her.
But in life, there were higher priorities. Reflecting on the reawakening of various memories of Brandon since her rebirth and their closeness before, she was willing to try again.
The phone rang for a while before it was picked up on the other end.
"Abigail, what brings you here so late?" Jeffrey Foster already had a guess when he saw Abigail’s number and sent a message before answering the call.
"It’s like this. What happened last time badly affected both you and me, so I feel it is not appropriate for me to go into your lab again." Upon hearing Jeffrey’s gentle voice, Abigail instinctively tried to soften her refusal.
Jeffrey looked self-mockingly at himself in the mirror. He had guessed Abigail’s purpose in calling tonight, but hearing her say it out loud still felt ironic.
She had known Brandon for how long? Did she love him that much already? Loved him enough to give up investigating her own death just to forget him!
Why not keep investigating? He had laid out the evidence, and she was simply going to give up?
Did Dr. Smith’s life, and his love for her, mean so little that it could be abandoned so easily? She had taken revenge for Abigail Green, throwing her stepmother and stepsister in jail and a mental hospital respectively. Was her life so casually dismissible?
And him?
Did she now regard him as garbage?
What was so good about that man?
The inner struggle made the man in the mirror, who had a handsome face, look obsessive and pale. But the words he spoke were still rational as ever. "I understand your concerns, and I know what happened that day hurt you deeply. I’m very sorry."
Abigail didn’t want to bring up that day, especially when every thought of it brought back the image of him confessing to her with a forlorn and slightly crazy look on his face.
If missed, it was missed.
"I said before that it wasn’t your fault, Mr. Foster. But I agreed to it first and am now backing out, so I am sorry." Abigail tried to keep the conversation from diverging.
"You don’t need to apologize to me..." Because it was my fault. I went along with it, even actively participated in planning the whole thing. My apology wasn’t for what happened that day, Abigail, don’t you understand?
Despite having thousands of words in his heart, Jeffrey paused and finally turned them into one sentence. "It’s okay, you have the freedom to choose to leave the lab."
Abigail let out a sigh of relief. "Goodbye, Mr. Foster."
"Okay, goodnight."
