Chapter 1013: Chapter 1015: Returning to the An Family

After surviving countless near-deaths, Yang Ming and Xiaoxiao were utterly exhausted both physically and mentally.

The two were riding horses and finally had a moment to rest; Xiaoxiao was so tired that she fell asleep leaning on Yang Ming.

To be able to fall asleep on horseback shows just how exhausted she was.

It’s no wonder; after spending two days and nights on the mountain, her mind was in a state of high alert.

Once down the mountain, her mental state relaxed, and with Yang Ming there, she felt a sense of security.

Looking at his wife, Yang Ming felt heartache, blaming himself for being too weak.

By this time, it was already bright as day, and Yang Ming rode into Anyi Village.

Because Yang Ming appeared so disheveled, especially with his bloodstained face, the villagers began to whisper among themselves.

Yang Ming couldn’t care about that; he just rode towards the An Family’s house.

From An’an’s words that Xiaoxiao had been taken by bandits, the An Family had been on edge all day.

Constantly listening for any sound from outside, waiting to see if the two would return.

As soon as Yang Ming arrived at the An Family’s doorstep, the An Family’s An Quan spotted them, "Oh brother, you’re finally back. Quickly, come in."

Yang Ming wanted to wake his wife, but found her sleeping soundly; he was reluctant to disturb her. So he held her with one hand, dismounted first, and then got her off the horse.

He carried his wife into the An Family’s courtyard, while An Quan called out, "Dad, Mom, they’re back."

Meanwhile, he helped tie the horse to a big tree.

Upon hearing the shouting, the An Family members hurried out of the house.

Seeing Yang Ming carrying Xiaoxiao, and noticing his bloodstained face, they were terribly shocked, thinking something bad had happened to the two.

Old An, worried, asked, "Child, what happened to her?"

"Uncle An, my wife is okay, she’s just too tired and fell asleep," Yang Ming explained.

The way they looked could easily be misunderstood, and he could imagine what his face looked like, especially since he’d heard the village gossip as he entered.

"I’m fine too, the blood on my face is the wolf’s. We encountered wolves in the mountains."

Hearing Yang Ming’s words, the An Family members took a sharp breath; these two kids had just escaped death.

"Wife, quickly boil some hot water. Her mother, hurry and make something to eat; these two kids have suffered," Old An quickly instructed.

The mother and daughter-in-law promptly went to the kitchen to get busy.

Yang Ming followed Old An into the house, asking as they went, "Uncle An, how is my son?"

"Don’t worry, your son is fine; he’s in An’an’s room. An’an is watching him. You two should rest."

Old An said as he led Yang Ming into a room, "Come in here and rest. This room isn’t usually occupied, only used for guests. Xue Zhiyi stayed here before."

Once inside, Old An took a set of bedding from the top of the kang and laid it out.

"Quick, lay your wife down; this girl is worn out."

Yang Ming placed his wife on the kang, removed her shoes, and gently covered her with a quilt.

As soon as Xiaoxiao hit the kang, she settled in as if she were at home, snuggled under the covers, found a comfortable position, and fell into a sweet sleep.

Seeing her sleeping soundly, Yang Ming figured she was fine, so he got up, intending to go out and wash up.

Then he heard his wife behind him say, "Three hundred taels of silver."
