Reborn As An Interstellar Giant Mosquito-Chapter 2290 - 38: Confrontation!
"My gosh, have they really come? They dare to charge in here, even though this region was a bit unclear in the past, it has basically been recognized as territory under our Orion Arm’s control. They actually dare to come here..."
For over a decade, this planet has been near the centerline, but the Orion Arm never gave up fighting for it. It’s like on Earth, where every nation fights for every inch. Thus, the decade of development made this place essentially the backyard of the Orion Arm’s high command. The administration and civilian industries are running well, and many mineral deposits were discovered nearby, making it a place the Orion Arm is reluctant to relinquish.
However, who would have expected that the Empire, who is supposed to understand this well, would truly aim to claim this small planet?
It seems there’s a real possibility they want a fight.
"Hmph, approaching this planet, claiming they’ve ruled it for over a decade and thus it’s their inherent territory, and yet I guarantee they won’t dare to fight. The Orion Arm’s actions resemble laying low and keeping a low profile; they can’t possibly wage war with us. In the past, the most we faced was local resistance, which meant nothing to us."
The Empire’s fleet, compared to the Orion Arm’s fleet, was even greater, advancing in waves, forcing the newly-built fleet of the Orion Arm, built over the past decade, to withdraw without a direct confrontation.
They even retreated to the planet, where both sides were in a standoff, with the Empire continuing to advance.
If they advance further, they would press the Orion Arm warships against the planet, forcing them to either crash onto it or retreat to the side.
Grrr!
The lead battleships of both sides made contact directly, yet neither side fired.
On Mars, internal systems shook violently aboard two sets of battleships.
"Hold your position, remain calm and don’t act blindly. The other side won’t open fire; whoever fires first loses. Hold on."
"Don’t worry, the Orion Arm won’t act impulsively. Neither will we. Right now, countless international and bilateral media are focused here, waiting to see who acts first, which would show them at fault. We’re still debating theoretical territorial edges; this mutual pressure is normal and fine, but the issue arises if we initiate combat."
The high command of both sides was under immense pressure, unwilling and unable to initiate combat, as the side that acted first would lose moral standing and be deemed the aggressor by others.
"Ahhh, our engines are inferior to theirs, the thrusters caught fire, an explosion is imminent."
"Ahhh, my lord, how can we not act? The entire crew must abandon ship, and we’ve lived on this battleship for three years."
"To lose a battleship like this without combat is the disgrace of a soldier."
Due to outdated warship technology, the standoff led to significant losses for the Orion Arm, although the Empire’s ships appeared to show signs of being on fire and retreated to the back of their fleet as a ruse, some Orion Arm ships genuinely caught fire, forcing the entire crew to evacuate before they exploded.
"Damn it, what’s the situation? What’s the word from above."
The mid-level Earth officer, not just any Earth man, was a young trainer from Earth who once fought in space alongside Jia Qi and witnessed the miracle of the Giant Mosquito.
Time had passed, and he was now a mid-level officer on the Orion Arm’s side, commanding a small fleet here. Unfortunately, he had to face such a dreadful scenario, where even a high-ranking officer would struggle to make decisions, and he had to proceed with extreme caution, unsure of what to do.
If they fought, not only would they lose Orion Arm’s influence, but their small fleet would be utterly defeated; they had fewer warships and far fewer Strong Ones, predicting their annihilation.
Yet if they don’t fight, the Empire’s stance seems to drive the fleet back. With weaker warships, they could only hold out for a while before retreating.
"What to do?"
"If only I held higher rank, decisions would be easier. But my position is too low, and any decision could result in losing face or even being destined to be a historical villain."
In the current situation, the Earth officer was utterly confused. His permissions were too low, knowing that fighting would result in being labeled a villain whether they won or lost, as he could be made a scapegoat.
"Moreover, the planet’s people believe in me, so I won’t retreat. If I die, so be it. At least then the Empire would have started the war first."
As the Earth officer resolved to sacrifice himself in this skirmish, even planning to lead his flagship to collide with the Empire’s lead battleship...
Buzz!!
An immense, earth-shattering wave of Brainwave Power, like unstoppable locust storms, suddenly swept into the fleet.
Boom boom boom!
The officers on the Orion Arm side felt nothing, but they witnessed the Empire fleet, which had almost cornered them, suddenly explode one by one.
Pop pop pop.
The Brainwave Power was so strong you could hear the popping of heads in neighboring ships.
"What is this?..."
"What’s happening? It seems the Empire’s ships are under attack by a Strong One?"
"Impossible, they have Semi-permanent Star Level Strong Ones on their ships too, yet they also exploded?"
"Could it be a Cosmic Strongman came by and wiped them out because they were an eyesore?"
"Be cautious; it’s unclear if the intruder is friend or foe."
The Orion Arm soldiers, even after witnessing the destruction of the Empire’s ships, remained vigilant, as just because an enemy was defeated, it didn’t necessarily mean the victor was a friend.
The Empire’s fleet was vast, but one-third perished due to Brainwave Power. Instantly, at least five to six hundred battleships retreated as if facing a terrifying cosmic monster.
"What happened? So many of our fleet perished."
"Battleships exploded; could it be the Orion Arm’s ships attacked?"
"No, it’s a Strong One, the Brainwave Power of a Strong One; it’s terrifying, even Semipermanent Star Levels were wiped out."
"Did Commander die too? What to do now?"
"It must have been a Strong One of the Orion Arm who attacked first, so don’t blame us if the Empire retaliates."
"Retreat, retreat; we attracted such a Strong One, our fleet is doomed, hurry and leave."
"Success is ours; the ensuing war will now engulf the Empire and the Orion Arm."
The Empire’s fleet had come to provoke conflict, hoping to incite war, assigning the blame to the Orion Arm, which is why they kept pressing the Orion Arm’s side.
That planet? Who cares about it.
Boom!!!
Just as this fleet thought their objective was achieved and were ready to safely withdraw, the owner of that terrifying Brainwave Power didn’t let up. Instantly, with earth-shattering might, it swallowed them up again.
Remarkably, five to six hundred vessels, randomly scattered, were engulfed by this incomprehensibly powerful Brainwave Power.
"This..."
"What level of Strong One is this? Could it be..."
"At least mid-level Stellar, at least mid-level Stellar."
