Chapter 90: Ch 90: Aiming for the Soft hearted- Part 1

In the end, the group came to the same conclusion-to check out what Thief wanted from them. Andrew packed the beacon into his system, and the barrier came crashing down.

"Our base is not that far. But still, keep your eyes out for danger. Who knows when we can get attacked."

No sooner had Mandarine said these words than the monsters showed up to attack them. He immediately flushed and felt the need to clear up the misunderstanding.

"This is not my fault. I am not the one who called for these monsters."

Queen walked past him, her shoulder pushing him back. Before the monsters could attack, she froze them. Those who fell within the range of her attack immediately died, while others rushed toward them.

Andrew’s attacks pushed them back, and Emperor and Seraphina finished the rest of the group.

Andrew immediately checked his surroundings to see if there were any more monsters, but his eyes did not pick up any enemy information. So he turned toward the one who had the most range among them to sense the monsters.

"Clara, can you sense any monsters?"

Clara closed her eyes and focused on her abilities.

"I can pick some up, but they are quite far away. I think we won’t encounter them if we keep heading toward the base fast."

Andrew nodded and quickly started walking. His lead was followed by everyone else, and they reached Thief’s base in no time.

Unlike their small cabin, this base was large and had a lot of space. Trees had been cleared, and more cabins were put up.

[You have entered a new base.]

[Base Capacity: 95/100]

"Some of our people are out hunting for food and such. That is why you see empty space here for now. But we won’t have it for much longer."

Mandarine felt the need to clarify the air before everyone thought that he was lying about there not being enough space in here.

Queen just ignored him and walked toward the central hut.

"I will inform Thief that our ’guests’ are here."

Her attitude was as cold and annoyed as ever, and she did not spare a single glance back as she quickly left. Mandarine just sighed at her familiar attitude before he turned toward Andrew with an almost sorry look on his face.

"Anyway, please come in. You must be hungry. Let me go and get you something to eat."

Mandarine led them to the central cabin before he had them sit on soft cushions (who knows where they came from). Thief wasted no time coming out to meet them as well.

"Welcome, my dear guests. You cannot imagine how delighted I am to see you here."

He spoke in a relieved voice as he took a seat as well. He looked exhausted, having to carry the weight of a lot of people.

Andrew paid no attention to his problems and simply gave him a serious look.

"What do you want from us?"

His no-nonsense attitude told Thief that he was not in the mood for pleasantries, and the quicker he made this conversation, the better it would be for himself.

So he dropped his smile and simply extended his offer to Andrew.

"As you already heard from Monkey King and Mandarine, I am in need of your help. More specifically, I need the help of your team-the healer and the one who can control plants. We are constantly short on medicine and food, and their help would be appreciated."

Both Clara and Lilianna tensed after hearing this. They looked unhappy at being singled out, but Thief saw no point in trying to make them feel better.

Andrew had a feeling that Thief knew more than what he was saying to them, so he remained quiet and allowed Thief to continue. Thief was ultimately forced to speak more.

"Two days from today, there will be a large group of people who will try to force their way into this base. Due to this, our capacity will exceed the amount needed, and we will be attacked by monsters. I still cannot see the outcome of that battle, but I do know that even if we happen to win, we will need food and medicine, which we cannot afford to buy."

Thief put the entire problem in front of Andrew. But frankly, Andrew did not see this as his problem.

Still, he could see both Lilianna and Clara looking a little stunned and unsure about their actions. They were looking at Andrew, hoping to see what they should do.

"Alright, I got it. Since you need Lilianna and Clara’s help the most, I will leave it to them to decide what they want to do. I will follow their lead in this case."

Andrew declared, and Thief wasted no time in changing his target.

"Miss Clara, Miss Lilianna, I know that we have never met before, and you have no personal stakes in helping me out, but I would still like to ask for your help."

Thief was putting subtle pressure on Clara and Lilianna. The pair looked stumped, not knowing what they should do next.

Seeing this, the first person to come to their rescue was Seraphina.

"I do not agree with Andrew. Both Lilianna and Clara are too young and inexperienced to be bearing the burden of such a request. So I will do it for them. Let’s go. We will be heading back now. There is no reason for us to help this base and risk our lives as well."

Seraphina had made too many sacrifices in the previous games to feel bad about backing out now. Her eyes met Thief’s, and the tense silence worsened.

In the end, Thief just smiled at her and nodded.

"I understand. If you do not want to help us out, then I won’t force you to. But I would really appreciate it if you change your mind somehow. I will be waiting for you back in the base."

He told the group, who finally left. Andrew left the extra beacon with Thief, and Thief looked just a little gloomy at their group’s rejection. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

But in such a situation, Andrew would rather prioritize the well-being of his group.
