Sunlight crept through the dorm window, pulling Melisa from sleep. As per usual when Melisa woke up on her own, the room felt oddly quiet without Raven's steady breathing from the other bed.

[Right, morning jog. My girlfriend's such a tryhard-that still feels kinda weird to say, huh. My girlfriend... Well, weird in a good way~]

"Ahhh," she yawned and stretched, her nightshirt riding up to expose purple skin to the cool morning air. Something crinkled beneath her - today's paper, neatly folded on her pillow.

[Raven's getting predictable,] she thought with a fond smile.

Ever since these attacks started, her girlfriend (still weird) had made sure Melisa saw each report first thing.

The smile died as she read the headline:

"FOURTH NOBLE FAMILY TARGETED - NIM CRIMINALS SUSPECTED"

[Fuck. Not again.]

The details matched the pattern perfectly. Noble, rich individuals, middle of the night, no witnesses. Thankfully, the people involved didn't die this time, but, once again, the perpetrators were nim.

This time, however, the assaulted individuals reported magic being thrown at them.

"Again," Melisa sighed, feeling defeated already. "What are these people doing?"

The door opened, and suddenly all thoughts of politics fled her mind.

Raven stood in the doorway, skin glistening with sweat, wearing nothing but a sports bra and tight shorts. Her usual pale complexion was flushed from exercise, her chest rising and falling with each breath.

[Sweet merciful god.]

Melisa almost melted into a puddle seeing those abs. Sure, she got to taste and lick those abs almost every night, but still, just seeing them was enough to make her heart skip a beat.

"Morning," Raven said softly, grabbing a towel. "You saw the paper?"

"Saw something better, just now," Melisa grinned, openly staring as Raven wiped sweat from her neck. "Want me to help you spend a bit more energy before you shower?"

"Mel." But Raven's lips twitched upward. "Focus. The attacks?"

"Right, right." Melisa forced her eyes back to the paper. "So, uh, yeah, crazy. They're saying nim magic users this time. But that doesn't make sense. Magic shouldn't have spread this quickly... At least, I think not."

Although she said that, she did recall the whispers from class yesterday. Other nim were figuring it out - how physical contact let them absorb Essence, how to channel it into spells.

... If she was being completely honest, it probably wouldn't take that long for people to get accustomed to magic. And, apparently, some of those nim had... not the best of intentions of what to do with it.

"Fuck."

"My thoughts exactly," Raven moved to read over her shoulder, which really didn't help Melisa's concentration. Drops of sweat rolled down Raven's collarbone, drawing Melisa's eyes.

[Focus, you horny nim! Politics now, gay thoughts later!]

"This is going to cause problems," Melisa said, trying to ignore how good Raven smelled even all sweaty. "Back on-I mean, I've heard that... when small groups of people do terrible stuff like this, the majority can end up shouldering the blame."

"Mhm." Raven's breath tickled her ear. "Though you seem a bit distracted."

"WHA- CAN YOU BLAME ME? You come in here looking like a snack..."

"Mel."

"What? I'm just saying, of course, I'm worried! I am! But also, your abs are right there and they're all shiny with sweat and-"

Raven silenced her with a kiss.

Despite her usual stoic demeanor, she could be surprisingly aggressive when she wanted to be.

Melisa blinked.

[Oh hello~]

"Shower," Raven pulled back, leaving Melisa dazed. "Then we can talk about the attacks."

"Or," Melisa waggled her eyebrows, "we could shower together and talk about the attacks?"

Raven gave her a little smile.

"... Last time we showered together we used all the hot water and were an hour late to class."

"Worth it though."

Raven's quiet laugh was all the answer Melisa needed.

[Best way to start the morning - political intrigue and my hot girlfriend's sweaty body pressed against mine.]

"Coming?" Raven asked from the bathroom doorway.

"Not yet, but hopefully soon!"

"...I suppose I walked right into that one."

"That's not all you'll be walking into~"

The newspaper lay forgotten on the bed, its headlines overshadowed by more immediate concerns. The attacks would still be there to worry about later.

Right now, Melisa had a sweaty girlfriend to clean up with.

[And dirty up again,] she thought, following Raven to the bathroom. [Can't forget that part.]

---

The evening sun painted Javir's manor in warm golden light as Melisa stepped through the front door. The scent of her mother's cooking filled the air, making her stomach growl.

"Mom?" she called out. "You around?"

"Garden, sweetie!"

Melisa found Margaret tending to some flowers. She was bent over the plants, her massive breasts threatening to spill out of her low-cut dress as she watered them. Melisa's eyes popped out of their sockets like she was in a cartoon.

[Good god, she's so BEAUTIFUL!] Melisa thought fondly, accepting her mother's tight hug.

"Hiiii," Melisa smiled as she gave Margaret a peck on the lips. "Dad working late?"

"Mhm. Some new project in the merchant district. He said he'll be coming home late these days." Margaret's eyes sparkled. "But look who's been busy!"

She gestured toward the center of the garden where Hazel stood, her little face scrunched up in concentration. A small flame danced above her palm.

"Holy shit," Melisa breathed. "When did she start-"

"BIG SIS!"

Suddenly, the flame vanished as Hazel instantly went into a full sprint. She launched herself at Melisa, nearly knocking them both over.

"OOF!" Melisa had the air knocked out of her for a second. "Hey, kid. Been practicing with Jaylin? Hm?" Melisa asked, ruffling her sister's hair.

"Uh huh!"

Margaret laughed, the sound rich and warm.

"I slowly managed to convince Jaylin to help Hazel out with her magic as well. You should see how she gets when she teaches us. Ah, that poor girl tries so hard to be professional."

[Must run in the family,] Melisa grinned as she rolled her eyes, remembering how flustered Javir used to get. [The getting hot and bothered by nim women thing. Kinda weird knowing someone is just into my mom like that but, oh well. After what I've done with Kimiko, I don't think I have the right to talk much about the sanctity of moms or whatever.]

They settled on a nearby bench, watching Hazel return to her practice. The little nim's tongue stuck out slightly as she concentrated on recreating her flame.

"You know," Melisa said after a moment, "you should get out more, Mom."

"Oh? Tired of your mother cramping your style?" Margaret raised a brow.

"I'm serious!" Melisa said between giggles. "I mean, you've basically been stuck here since we moved to Syux. I'm getting worried, ya know? I mean, how many times can you make Jaylin blush before her head just goes flying or something?"

"That would be highly unfortunate." Margaret's smile turned thoughtful. "I suppose I have been a bit... isolated. But where would I even go? It's not like nim have many social gatherings."

"Actually..." Melisa grinned. "Aunt Kimiko's been asking about you. Says you never come to her tea parties anymore."

"Those aren't tea parties and you know it," Margaret chuckled. "Your aunt just likes having an excuse to get nobles drunk and seduce them."

"Like you don't miss it! Come on, you've been cooped up here forever. Even Kimiko says you used to be way more fun with her dick in you all day."

"MELISA!" But Margaret was laughing.

"Oh, come on, I think we're way past the line of propriety now, mom."

A small explosion from the garden interrupted them. Hazel stood in a circle of scorched grass. Her face and hands were covered in soot.

"I'm okay!" she called out quickly.

"Just like her sister was at that age," Margaret sighed fondly. "Always pushing the limits."

"Speaking of pushing limits," Melisa nudged her mother, "those tea parties are pretty wild, from what Kimiko told me. Last week, three noble ladies ended up-"

"If you're trying to convince me to be more social, maybe lead with the tea and conversation rather than the orgies?"

"But the orgies are the best part!"

Margaret shook her head, but Melisa could see her considering it.

"I'll think about it," she finally said. "Though I suspect you have ulterior motives."

"What? Me? Never! I just want my sexy mom to get out more, make some friends, maybe get railed by some hot kitsune nobles..."

"MELISA!"

[Still got it,] Melisa thought as her mother tried to look scandalized and failed. [Nobody blushes quite like Mom.]

Another small explosion punctuated their laughter, followed by Hazel's quick:

"Still okay!"

Both women laughed. But, as that laughter subsided, Melisa asked:

"Have you seen the papers lately?"

"The attacks?" Margaret's smile faded slightly. "Hard to miss them. Your father's been worried."

"They're saying nim magic users now."

"Please," Margaret waved a hand dismissively. She pulled Melisa closer, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Don't worry so much, sweetie. Focus on your studies. And your... extracurricular activities with those friends of yours."

"Mom!"

"What? My daughter's quite the heartbreaker. I'm very proud."

Melisa rolled her eyes.

"Anyway, when are you going to tell Jaylin you know exactly why she gets so flustered during lessons?"

Margaret grinned in a way that nearly sent Melisa into a second isekai.

"Now... where would the fun be in that?"

Melisa swallowed.

[... Holy fuck.]
