Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress-Chapter 696: Surprisingly Uninterested
Arabella still noted to write a letter to her brother though and tell him off for daring to try to use such underhanded tactics on her husband.
Meanwhile, her husband was delighted to hear that she did not blame him in the slightest for Benjamin’s injury.
"I’m glad you see it that way," Ferdinand sighed in relief and smiled. He was grateful Arabella trusted him that much. Thus, he added, "I will send a reliable knight to Lobelius to train with him."
"Thank you," Arabella gave him another peck.
Ferdinand smiled and asked, "Did you enjoy the visit to Lobelius?"
"Yes, very much so. Thank you for making it possible," Arabella smiled and Ferdinand nodded.
"Next time, I’ll let you visit a bit longer," he added and Arabella was wide-eyed. Especially since he mentioned it first.
"Really?!"
[Her eyes are shining. It’s clear she wants to go back. She did not think of staying there for good, right?]
’Huh, he’s still worried about that?’
Arabella thought since she went and visited Lobelius and returned with him here just fine, he would finally stop having such fearful thoughts.
"Yes, as long you take me with you again," Ferdinand added.
"Yes, of course. Let’s make it an official visit next time so we can stay there a bit longer. I’ll introduce you to the people I grew up with," Arabella smiled.
[The people she held dear aside from her blood-related family?]
"I’d love that," Ferdinand was relieved she would introduce him to such important people in her life. They may not be related to her by blood but he knew that since she valued them, he had to know them too.
They chatted a bit more to clarify everything they may have misunderstood in what happened in Lobelius this morning and talked about their plans for the future. Until...
"It’s late, we should go to bed," Ferdinand said and Arabella was surprised he was the one who said it first.
Upon hearing those words, she yawned and Ferdinand chuckled.
"See, you’re sleepy." He easily scooped her up and walked to the bed.
Arabella chuckled lightly and closed her eyes, snuggling against his chest. It was nice to be carried by him like this every now and then.
However, Arabella realized something.
She was already sleepy.
But what if her husband had other ideas in mind? Going to bed usually meant being intimate before sleeping.
’Will I survive even just one round?’ Arabella wondered as Ferdinand settled her on the bed.
She was exhausted from Court Sessions and working on documents; plus she barely had any sleep the previous night.
Arabella wanted to tell her husband to save it for tomorrow night but she already promised him while they were in Lobelius that she would be with him once they returned here.
She did not want to go back on her word or make Ferdinand feel bad. She read from Ferdinand’s thoughts some time ago that getting rejected by her was even more painful than getting severely injured.
Thus, as much as possible, she did not want to reject him when he wanted to do it. Likewise, when Arabella thought about it, it would be that painful for her too, or even worse if, for instance, Ferdinand rejected her for some reason.
Further, after everything they heard from Elder Satara, Arabella knew Ferdinand looked forward to their time together. It would be mean of her to crush his hopes, especially after promising that they could continue whatever he had in mind once they were back here.
Thus, Arabella was surprised when her husband simply covered her with the sheets. He did not begin seducing her or getting her in the mood so they would do the deed.
"Good night," Ferdinand said and kissed her forehead. After that, he simply lay beside her and wrapped an arm around her waist. He did not let his hands wander as he usually does and simply closed his eyes.
’Eh? Are we really just going to sleep?’ Arabella blinked repeatedly and stared at her husband.
He looked so handsome even with his eyes closed and his lashes were longer than people would expect from someone they thought looked quite terrifying.
"What is it?" Ferdinand inquired, feeling her gaze.
"N-nothing. Good night," Arabella kissed him on the cheek and closed her eyes as well. She almost bit her lip when she felt him move and stare at her.
’I shouldn’t have done that.’ Arabella realized kissing him was a mistake since she could have triggered him instead when he was not thinking about doing naughty stuff tonight.
[Is she having difficulty sleeping? She usually falls asleep easily. Right, she sleeps faster when she’s in my arms.]
Ferdinand did not do anything naughty and simply held Arabella against his chest and closed his eyes again.
Arabella loved the warmth and the sense of security it made her feel.
It was weird though that her husband was not thinking of doing anything tonight.
Her husband usually thought of such things a lot, especially when they were together in her room.
Ferdinand thought a lot about it when they were having lunch and dinner. And yet, his thoughts were clear of such things this time even when their bodies were closely pressed against each other.
It was the first time in a while. The last time was when she was recovering when she was poisoned.
’Maybe, he’s just not in the mood. Or did something happen when he was working?’
Arabella was beginning to overthink but her exhaustion took over and she soon fell asleep.
The night went by in before she knew it and when she woke up, the sun had already risen.
’Hmm, I slept so soundly,’ Arabella thought as she stretched her limbs.
She could not move that much because Ferdinand’s arms were around her.
When she opened her eyes, a beautiful smile greeted her as he said, "Good morning."
Arabella could not help but smile back. It felt so nice to wake up like this. She wished all her mornings would be this bright and warm.
