Chapter 946: 483 Chapter Flourishing_2

The hunters there don’t raise wolfdogs, but an even fiercer breed of dogs—mastiffs.

Wolfdogs and local dogs are primarily for defense, whereas the mastiffs raised by hunters are purely for attack. It’s said that a fully grown mastiff is capable of fighting off a bear.

Mastiffs are rare treasures, and while Lian Manman was intrigued upon hearing about them, she had no intention of raising one to guard her home. In her view, such valiant creatures belonged in the ancient wilderness, where they could roam free and thrive. Keeping them tied up to guard the fish pond or lotus pond would be a waste of their talent, and surely they’d feel like heroes with no battlefield to conquer.

"Sis, come quickly, there’s two of them!" Xiao Qi exclaimed as he held onto a tiny puppy, still calling out to Lian Manman.

Lian Manman promptly walked over, as Zhang Caiyun lifted the basket higher for her to see.

Inside the big basket, lined with cotton padding, was a chubby puppy with a black back and yellow belly, half-squatting on top. This little puppy, much like the one in Xiao Qi’s arms, was less than a foot long excluding its tail, but it was exceptionally plump, its body almost round like a ball.

Just recently weaned, with baby fat still all over its furry, fluffy little body.

Lian Manman’s eyes instantly sparkled with joy; she had zero resistance when it came to these fuzzy, chubby little creatures.

She reached out and picked up the little black puppy in her hands. Its fur was short and soft, its body warm and tender. Held by Lian Manman, the puppy wagged its tiny tail, wiggled twice, and let out soft, muffled barks.

Lian Manman didn’t want to let it go.

Everyone walked toward the house while Lady Li and Lady Zhang, watching Lian Manman and Xiao Qi gush over the puppies, couldn’t help but find it both adorable and amusing.

"The pup’s still small, only two months old," Lady Li said with a smile. "But you know, dogs have to be raised from a young age. Whoever takes care of them will be the one they bond with, and they’ll listen to that person."

Lian Manman nodded repeatedly as she listened. For any dog, raising them young was always preferable. And when it came to puppies, switching owners midway was the worst; it would cause emotional trauma and significantly lower their loyalty, happiness, and bravery.

Once inside the house, Lian Manman and Xiao Qi still refused to put the puppies down.

Lian Manman then asked Zhang Caiyun about how to care for the puppies, especially what they could eat right now. In her memory, puppies this small were supposed to drink milk. Sadly, there was no milk to be found in the area.

"...Feed them with a grain porridge for now. In two or three months, they’ll be able to eat anything," Zhang Caiyun explained.

Lian Manman gently stroked the puppy in her hands, thinking it must be hungry.

"Then I’ll go make them some porridge right now," Lian Manman said, placing the puppy down on the bed.

"Xiao Qi, you go make a nest for the puppy," Lian Manman directed Xiao Qi.

"Yeah, yeah," Xiao Qi agreed, but he couldn’t bear to put the puppy down either; he ended up holding both puppies together, even the one Lian Manman placed on the bed.

Seeing his short arms trying to hold two puppies, worried about hugging them too tightly and hurting them, everyone couldn’t help but laugh.

"Sis, where should we raise the puppies?" Xiao Qi asked Lian Manman. "Why not just keep them in the study? I’ll take care of them."

If it were any other kid his age saying this, Lian Manman would surely scoff. But when Xiao Qi said it, she trusted that he’d responsibly take care of the puppies.

"Da Hua was raised by you, so now it’s my turn to raise these two puppies. We’ll keep them in my room with sis and me," Lian Manman deliberately replied. "You have school all day; you wouldn’t have time to properly look after them."

"Sis, can’t we just team up to raise them together?" Xiao Qi pleaded with puppy eyes at Lian Manman.

"Sis..." Seeing Lian Manman hesitating, Xiao Qi clung to the puppies and scooted closer, begging her earnestly.

Lian Manman stifled her laughter and pretended to reluctantly agree. The siblings then huddled together, planning out how they’d share responsibilities for the puppies. In the end, just like how they raised their cat, cleaning up after the puppies and training them to have good bathroom habits was entirely assigned to Xiao Qi. As for the rest...

"That’s easy!" Lian Manman generously declared.

"Bullying your brother again," Lady Zhang teased Lian Manman with a playful glare.

Lian Manman headed to the kitchen to light the fire and make porridge for the puppies. Making the porridge was simple: she cooked fine cornmeal, added some wheat flour, and even minced a piece of meat finely, boiling it all into a small pot of fragrant porridge.

By the time she finished, Xiao Qi, with Zhang Caiyun’s help, had already prepared a warm nest for the two puppies in the study.

Lian Manman brought the porridge to the study, tested the temperature to make sure it was right, and placed the bowl in front of the two puppies.

The puppies, smelling the scent, had already started barking excitedly. As soon as Lian Manman put the bowl down, both rushed over, tails wagging furiously, crowding around the bowl, and stuffed their fluffy little heads in to devour the food.

Xiao Qi squatted nearby, his gaze still fixated on the puppies, unable to look away.

"Sis, let’s give them names," Xiao Qi suggested.

"Okay," Lian Manman nodded, glancing at the two little pups. "...Let’s call them Da Pang and Second Fatty."

"Sis, if we get another cat, do we call it ’Second Flower’?" Xiao Qi asked bashfully.

"That’s a great idea," Lian Manman agreed with a nod.
