Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1553 - 789: Argument (Part 2)
"Si Lang... After all, he hasn’t had much schooling. However, Si Lang is young, and at the Paper Craft Shop, he would definitely learn faster than Jizu."
Old Master Lian said this with a long face, and Lian Jizu immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Lian Shouyi and Si Lang were silent for a while, and when Si Lang regained his senses, he let out a cold laugh.
Old Master Lian kept his long face, pretending not to hear. But at this moment, his heart was like a jar of mixed spices, with all sorts of tastes. He didn’t want to do this, but he really had no choice.
For instance, earlier when Shouxin’s family was here, Wu Lang had already said such words in front. If this was before, those demands he planned would never have been voiced. But today, he ignored Wu Lang’s words and still laid out his demands.
For example, now, if this was before, he wouldn’t do this, such obvious favoritism, leaving such a glaring clue. But today, he did it.
"Grandpa," Si Lang let out two cold laughs and, seeing no reaction from Old Master Lian, said, "I can’t possibly travel over sixty li to the Paper Craft Shop every day. I’ll just stay at my aunt’s house, Grandpa, what do you think?"
Si Lang’s tone was somewhat stiff, sounding more like he wasn’t asking Old Master Lian, and not even discussing.
Old Master Lian had just obviously favored Lian Jizu, feeling a bit guilty towards Si Lang, so the request from Si Lang wasn’t as easy to outright refuse.
"If you can’t walk, then don’t go. No one’s going to starve without going to that shop." Lady Zhou suddenly spoke up, not even looking at Si Lang, but addressing Old Master Lian. "His aunt’s family aren’t running a large inn, and aren’t rich landlords either. That little family is already cramped, adding a big guy to live there, what would that be? If you can earn money, you do, if not, you don’t bother others. They aren’t family."
Old Master Lian inwardly agreed with Lady Zhou’s words, a married daughter is considered part of someone else’s family. Your own affairs are handled within your own family, but it’s inappropriate to trouble others.
"Isn’t Si Lang doing this for the family’s sake?" Lian Shouyi said angrily, "Isn’t my elder sister a daughter of the Old Lian Family, Si Lang’s real aunt? How is it cramped at her house? Back then, my brother, Duoduo, and her children stayed there for a month or two, why didn’t anyone say it was cramped, landlords, or big inns, but suddenly it’s a problem for Si Lang? Si Lang is doing proper work!"
"Isn’t our Si Lang part of the Old Lian Family? Why is this family lifting one up while stepping on another, just stepping on us. I know, that in this family, not one of them really looks at us." Lady He chimed in noisily.
"What’s that about not being family, wanting her family to help a little becomes a hassle. But when she came over here, why wasn’t that mentioned, her family was imprisoned, wasn’t it my fourth uncle who helped get her out? Then the cloth my fourth uncle gave to Grandpa, why didn’t they give it to us, just to her?" Si Lang, his face flushed, said.
"Year after year, bringing buns and frozen tofu to her family." Lian Shouyi added.
"Things we can’t even eat." Lady He interjected.
"All you know is eating, never having enough of it, can’t do anything right." Embarrassed and enraged by being confronted by Lian Shouyi and the others, Lady Zhou started to curse at Lady He.
All the old arguments and issues came tumbling out at once. You speak your logic, I speak mine, and the room descended into chaos.
Old Master Lian was already feeling agitated, and with the uproar, he felt his head swelling, his temper rising. Since he couldn’t think of a proper solution at this point, at first, he resigned himself to not intervening, until Lian Shouyi, Si Lang, and Lady He stood up, and the quarrel with Lady Zhou escalated, did he start to object.
However, by this time, no one was listening to him.
Old Master Lian shouted several times, coughing repeatedly, but was completely ignored, watching the clash nearly bringing down the roof. If he didn’t stop it immediately, it might spiral out of control, leaving Old Master Lian no choice but to grab a teacup from the kang and smash it onto the ground.
The crisp sound of the teacup shattering finally brought some awareness back to the arguing group. Everyone turned their heads to look at Old Master Lian, and upon seeing him, a chill swept over them.
Because his anger surged, and from smashing the teacup too forcefully, Old Master Lian suddenly felt dizzy and weak, his head dropped forward, heading straight for the ground.
Lady Zhou screamed, and Lian Shouyi hurried forward to catch Old Master Lian, but it was too late, his half body already slipped from the kang, his head inches from the floor.
If the fall were solid, Old Master Lian’s life would likely be jeopardized.
Lady Zhou rushed towards Old Master Lian, crying out. Lian Shouyi yelled in shock.
Coincidentally, at this moment, the door curtain lifted from outside, and Lian Jizu and Lady Chiang walked in one after the other. Just moments ago the room was in chaos, allowing Lady Chiang to sneak out Lian Jizu. The couple spoke outside for a long while before returning. Lian Jizu’s face didn’t look well, Lady Chiang’s eyes were red, as if she had been crying.
"Jizu!" Lady Zhou and Lian Shouyi shouted simultaneously.
Lian Jizu noticed the situation was off, and just as Old Master Lian’s head was about to hit the floor, he grabbed Old Master Lian’s sleeve, halting his fall. Then, Lady Zhou and Lian Shouyi pounced forward, one holding onto his clothes atop the kang, the other along with Lian Jizu holding his shoulders, pulling Old Master Lian back onto the kang.
After laying Old Master Lian flat on the kang and seeing his complexion, everyone in the room froze in fear.
