Chapter 1524: Chapter 775: Distinctions Between Insider and Outsider (Part 2)

Lady Zhou kept a stern face and hadn’t spoken, but she really started tidying up, and her speed was quite fast. Meanwhile, she directed Lian Yaya and Lady Chiang to first move the basins and clothes to the ground, while she took a large, colorless rag to wipe the wet traces on the kang.

"No need to tidy up, we’ll sit on the floor." Lian Shouxin said.

They had several people, and there weren’t enough chairs and stools on the floor for everyone to sit. Lian Shouxin and Lian Shouli sat first; the rest were all peers, so no one wanted to sit down first, showing a lot of courtesy.

"The floor is cold; better sit on the kang. It’ll be ready soon." Old Master Lian said, urging Lady Zhou to quickly finish tidying up while smilingly chatting with Lian Shouxin and the others.

Lian Shouli came, and Old Master Lian showed no sign of surprise. Wu Lang, Lian Manman, and Xiao Qi, along with Lian Yeye, also came, which didn’t surprise Old Master Lian either. But upon seeing Erlang, Old Master Lian’s face finally showed a different expression.

"Erlang also came! Is this..."

"...Zhizhi’s sister came back to visit her parents, and Fourth Uncle and Fourth Aunt asked us to come and help." Erlang said earnestly.

"Oh." Old Master Lian gave an "oh" and then smiled, "Good, good, a family should be harmonious like this. That’s good."

Old Master Lian said several "good" words in succession.

When the kang was finally tidy, Wu Jiaxing and Lian Zhizhi sat on the edge of the kang. Wu Jiaxing was closest to Old Master Lian, followed by Lian Zhizhi. Lian Manman, Xiao Qi, and Lian Yeye also got on the kang and sat next to Lian Zhizhi.

Lady Chiang brought in hot tea with Lian Yaya.

"This is still the good tea leaves your father-in-law bought for me last time. The tea tastes great; I’ve been saving it." Old Master Lian said while offering Wu Jiaxing tea, smiling.

"Dad, there’s nothing to be stingy about drinking this. Once it’s finished, just let me know, and I’ll bring you more." Lian Shouxin said.

"I didn’t know you liked tea. I have some good tea leaves at home too; next time, I’ll bring some for you to enjoy." Wu Jiaxing said.

"Good, good." Old Master Lian nodded with satisfaction while sipping his tea, clearly pleased with Wu Jiaxing’s gesture.

"Are your father and mother doing well? Did your father go out today..." Old Master Lian spoke to Wu Jiaxing while secretly signaling Lady Zhou to have a chat with Lian Zhizhi.

Seeing Old Master Lian’s gesture, Lady Zhou lowered her eyelids. But shortly after, she lifted them and glanced at Lian Zhizhi.

Lian Zhizhi kept her head down, seemingly attentively listening to Old Master Lian and Wu Jiaxing talk, without turning her eyes towards Lady Zhou.

Lady Zhou opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing, letting out a sigh instead, then lowered her head as if she was dozing off.

This was a sign of Lady Zhou’s discontent. However, with so many people in the room, apart from Old Master Lian and the few living at the old house, it seemed no one else noticed or heard Lady Zhou’s peculiar behavior.

Old Master Lian gave a dry cough or two, casting a warning glance at Lady Zhou. But Lady Zhou kept her head down; it was unclear if she understood Old Master Lian’s warning, but she truly stayed silent, making no strange actions.

Old Master Lian gave Lady Zhou another glance, full of dissatisfaction with her attitude. However, he did not continue to scold Lady Zhou. Sometimes, as long as Lady Zhou didn’t blow things up further, everyone considered it a decent situation.

Old Master Lian seemed to have a liking for Wu Jiaxing, talking to him in an extremely kind tone. Wu Jiaxing, though usually quite personable, only answered questions during this conversation. Though polite and courteous, it was clear Old Master Lian’s topics weren’t very engaging for him.

The old residence has been visited, Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou have been seen, and rituals have been performed. Lian Manman saw Lian Shouxin looking up in her direction and deliberately blinked.

"Jiaxing, you and your grandpa can chat another time. Your grandpa’s health isn’t great; he needs more rest." Lian Shouxin said loudly.

Wu Jiaxing immediately stood up.

"I heard during the feast that Grandpa was overjoyed by our wedding and fell ill because of his excitement." Wu Jiaxing said with some regret.

Wu Jiaxing’s words touched a sore spot for Old Master Lian. His breath hitched, and his face turned slightly red. The extra dowry for Lian Zhizhi, even if prepared by Lady Zhou, he was unaware, but as head of the family, the responsibility was his.

"Seeing Grandfather and Grandmother makes me so happy that I forgot about this issue, thanks to my dad’s reminder." Wu Jiaxing said properly, standing, "Grandfather, Grandmother, please don’t take offense. I’ll excuse myself now and visit you again in a few days."

Lian Zhizhi stood up along with Wu Jiaxing, followed by Lian Manman and the others getting off the kang, preparing to leave.

"Stay a bit longer..." Old Master Lian quickly said, wanting to keep everyone around for more conversation, but Wu Jiaxing’s earlier words left him unable to insist they stay.

"Dad, you take a good rest. They’ll come by again later." Lian Shouxin said. He feared that Lady Zhou might suddenly act up, causing embarrassment for everyone. For their family, it might be bearable, but Wu Jiaxing was the new son-in-law. Having so many people accompany him wasn’t just a show of respect but also to ensure nothing went wrong, maintaining a bright atmosphere for the occasion. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Lady Zhou had already shown dissatisfaction, though pretending to sleep now, there’s no guarantee she wouldn’t explode in the next moment. They couldn’t take that risk.
