Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1478 - 752: Gourd
Shen Liu took the box and placed it on the table. Lian Manman gazed at the intricately carved lacquer box, curious about its substantial size and what it might contain. However, Shen Liu did not open the box but instead used two long fingers to push the wooden box slightly toward Lian Manman.
What is it? Lian Manman looked at Shen Liu. Although she didn’t voice her question, her eyes unmistakably inquired.
Shen Liu also remained silent, motioning with his eyes for Lian Manman to open it herself and take a look.
Lian Manman glanced at the wooden box, then at Shen Liu, not rushing to open it. What could Shen Liu be giving her? Lian Manman rested her chin on her hand, thinking.
Ever since meeting Shen Liu, the times he gave her gifts could be counted on one hand. Each occasion was rather "formal," a customary exchange. Although the gifts varied widely, from pieces of cloth, tea leaves, to gold and silver, none bore any personal touch.
The only item with a personal touch was the set of headpieces given by Shen Jin. However, that had nothing to do with Shen Liu. Indeed, it had nothing to do with Shen Liu.
This time, Shen Liu had specifically called her over to give her something. Since Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang were just there, there was no way Shen Liu’s intention was purely for convenience.
This should be the first time Shen Liu is intentionally giving her something with a personal touch.
Just like Wu Lang bringing gifts for everyone in the family upon returning from the Capital City, perhaps it was the same with Shen Liu. Was the item inside the box a gift Shen Liu brought back from the Capital City, including one for her? What could it be, specially placed in that box, and Shen Liu acting so mysteriously?
Lian Manman’s eyes flickered; she couldn’t discern anything from Shen Liu’s face, so she secretly gave Xiao Qi a meaningful look. Xiao Qi arrived earlier; perhaps he knew something?
Xiao Qi blinked at Lian Manman, looking innocent. He didn’t know anything.
"What’s the matter, you don’t want it?" Shen Liu noticed Lian Manman’s hesitation in opening the box, exchanging glances with Xiao Qi, just short of whispering to each other, and slightly raised an eyebrow, asking.
"How could that be!" Lian Manman immediately lowered her hand, no longer resting her chin. Shen Liu rarely gave gifts; how could she not want it?
"Sixth Master, what’s inside?" Lian Manman placed her hand on the box but asked again before opening it.
"You’ll know when you open it." Shen Liu replied blandly, his eyes moving from Lian Manman’s face to Xiao Qi’s, then back again. He tapped gently on the table with his fingers, watching Lian Manman.
There was no significant change when Lian Manman left him, except a slight roundness to her cheeks, a rosy hue, as if her skin could break at the slightest touch. She also seemed a little taller.
The little girl seemed to be doing well lately, Shen Liu thought. Interestingly, she also seemed to be avoiding him a bit. If it were in the past, she would run straight to him when called. But today, she specifically brought a little tail along.
Avoiding him could be a good thing, Shen Liu mused while watching Lian Manman, squinting slightly. Even though she thought about avoiding suspicion, when facing him, she seemed neither restrained nor awkward, still her usual approachable self.
This made him feel at ease.
Lian Manman’s behavior in front of him was partly due to her nature and partly because of who he was. Even if Lian Manman had never said anything, he could feel an innate trust and closeness from her. Because of these feelings, Lian Manman could be so comfortable and at ease around him.
Shen Liu suddenly felt in high spirits; inviting Lian Manman over today was indeed the right move. Initially, he planned to do so tomorrow or the day after, when things were less hectic and it would be more convenient. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Today was a bit rushed. However, he didn’t want to wait. This wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision, and he was satisfied with the outcome.
Lian Manman was lowering her head to open the wooden box, feeling Shen Liu’s intense gaze on her. This made her feel pressured. There were certain things she could sense. If Shen Liu weren’t who he was, but someone from another family, it would be much simpler.
Perhaps, just perhaps, getting engaged before Wu Lang wouldn’t be such a big deal. It’s not uncommon for a girl to marry before her brother does. However, she had no intention of marrying that early.
