Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1195 - 609:
"I’m fine." Old Master Lian tried to ignore the pain in his mouth and said, "Wu Lang, I’ve called you here to talk about today’s matter. This..."
"Grandfather," Wu Lang interrupted before Old Master Lian could continue. "You just regained your ability to speak, so take a rest. My father and the others have already told me what you meant."
"Then..." Old Master Lian looked at Wu Lang.
"Grandfather, I know you have everyone’s best interests at heart. But you’ve experienced things outside, so you should know, carrying out what you said would be incredibly difficult," Wu Lang said with a bitter smile.
"Wu Lang, I know..."
"Grandfather, please don’t say anymore. I’ve thought it over; you’ve just gotten better, and since you’ve spoken, regardless of whether it can be done or what consequences it brings me, I will do it for you!" Wu Lang said resolutely.
Wu Lang’s words truly surprised everyone. Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi exchanged glances and then quickly looked at Old Master Lian.
"Ah..." Old Master Lian opened his mouth but only managed a sound.
He hadn’t expected Wu Lang to agree and so readily, leaving him at a loss for words.
"Grandfather, you’re right. In the past, my uncle and father have already... Alas. Now that Lady Gu is no more, my uncle and second uncle are looking to leave our village and live up north. This should suffice, and even if we keep today’s matter under wraps, others shouldn’t have much to say. Isn’t it so that taking a life is no more than a nod of the head?"
No, it’s not, it’s not!
Old Master Lian nearly shouted. Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi stood there, sweat beading on their foreheads in anxiety.
Calling Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang over was never truly to make them agree to Old Master Lian’s earlier request. To protect Yingzi and Lian Duoduo yet immediately have Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi leave the Thirty Mile Camp penniless? They never intended this; are they considered fools!
Old Master Lian’s demands were clearly just a probe, a concession, knowing that Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang would never agree or be able to achieve it.
"With Lady Gu gone, having Yingzi accompany my uncle north would put your mind at ease." Wu Lang added.
"Bring Duoduo back. Send word to have Steward Han invite the Yamen’s people home and prepare silver coins..." Lian Manman then summoned Han Zhong’s Wife and gave a couple of instructions.
Han Zhong’s Wife accepted and turned to get busy.
"Let’s do it this way; the longer it drags, the more issues arise. My uncle and second uncle should pack quickly, and I’ll have someone bring Yingzi and Lian Duoduo over. Leave before nightfall, and I’ll handle the rest. Witnessing Old Master recover should ease your departure." Wu Lang suggested.
"My uncle will take Yingzi and Lian Duoduo. As for my second uncle, whether to bring my second aunt or not is up to you. At the time of discussion, this must be done; I have no choice. As for others, I’ll take full responsibility; they can all stay. Grandfather, if you’re reluctant to part with Duoduo, she can stay too."
Wu Lang’s actions were commendably thoughtful and generous, so much so that even the pickiest would praise his magnanimity, compassion, and responsibility.
"Father..." Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi, contrary to feeling glad, were filled with sorrow. Without needing discussion, both knelt in front of Old Master Lian. "Father..."
They could only cry out "Father" without uttering another word. Wu Lang left no room for them to speak.
But there was no need for Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi to speak; Old Master Lian understood their sentiments well.
At this moment, Old Master Lian felt both bitter and in pain in his mouth, his heart flustered, and his hand trembled. How did things end up like this, utterly deviating from his aims and slipping from his control, leaving him in an impasse?
Old Master Lian trembled for a long while before barely regaining composure. He glanced at his eldest and second sons kneeling by the bed. Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi, once dignified in stature and appearance, were now clad in shabby cotton jackets. Lian Shouren’s hair was half-white, shoulders hunched, eyes murky, looking even less spirited than himself. As for Lian Shouyi..., Old Master sighed within. Not looking at his two sons anymore, he shifted his gaze to Lian Shouxin.
Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang, one seated in a chair and the other on the bedside, both wore tailored satin garments, their faces rosy, hair black and thick. Both were good-looking but not elaborately adorned. Their honest demeanor made them appear all the more respectable and approachable.
Xiao Qi had grown taller, dressed in a dark blue satin robe, resembling the child at the feet of the Goddess of Mercy. Lian Manman wore a honey-colored jacket and skirt today, with two white jade hairpins in her hair, sitting quietly with her eyes observing him, revealing no emotion.
And Wu Lang wore a Shengyuan turban with a dark-patterned Shu brocade attire. Though only in his teens, he appeared composed and steady, his gaze clear and resolute.
The dim room seemed to brighten with this family’s presence.
Old Master Lian’s heart, however, sank bit by bit.
Now at this juncture, what should he do? Truly turn Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi out of the family?
Old Master Lian let out a long sigh, raised his trembling hand, and before he could speak, tears fell.
