Reborn as a Devouring Dragon with a System-Chapter 98: Dragon Eater: The Fear (2)
Chapter 98: Dragon Eater: The Fear (2)
Ding!
[Countermeasure found.]
[RUN.]
Fear—this one word can bring mental devastation and breakdown to someone. The one word that makes people tremble, makes them feel like they are nothing before something greater. That one word that can make your entire heart collapse and cause you to know no rest.
It is said that it takes fear to defeat fear.
This was what Drakion was experiencing. He hadn’t felt fear like this since arriving in this world—the kind of fear that drives one insane, that makes one question the meaning of their existence.
It took Drakion’s fear of death for him to flee from the cursed existence. The fear of that entity—stronger than death itself—was what made Drakion run with every ounce of his being. As for the Draconic eggs, he stored them in the system space.
The only thought circulating in his head was: Run.
The onlookers were shocked as they saw the Golden Dragon Palace reduced from a majestic wonder to mere ruins. Many believed Drakion had evacuated a great treasure from it... until—
SWOOSH!
They were stunned to see a masked Drakion running like his life depended on it. Before they could blink, Drakion had crossed the bridge. He halted before the dragons.
"Run!" Drakion roared.
Everyone was confused by his strange behavior.
"Dragon Emperor, do you want us to play cat and mouse?"
They all heard a menacing and terrorizing voice that shook them to their cores.
It wasn’t just the voice—but the appearance of the Dragon Eater. The moment they saw it, goosebumps erupted across their bodies.
"What kind of creature is this?"
"I feel my skin going numb just looking at it..."
As for the dragons—when they laid eyes on the Dragon Eater—they froze. Frozen in fear, unable to move.
The Dragon Eater turned its gaze to Drakion, then to the group of dragons.
"More dragons..."
"It seems you dragons still haven’t given up," the Dragon Eater chuckled.
"There’s even a royal-grade among you..."
"This is going to be a delicious meal."
The dragons wanted to run. Every instinct screamed at them to flee. But—
"Protect the Dragon Emperor."
"Protect the Dragon Emperor."
"Protect the Dragon Emperor."
That voice echoed in their minds, over and over, grounding them. It snapped them out of their terror and gave them the strength to move. Slowly, they surrounded Drakion, shielding him at the center.
"Oh? You regained your composure quickly," the Dragon Eater said with a terrorizing laugh.
In the next moment, the dragons wasted no time. They transformed into their full forms, glaring at the Dragon Eater with cold, killer eyes.
"Oh?"
An amused chuckle escaped the Dragon Eater. Then suddenly—it unleashed its aura.
Wails of countless Dragon Souls echoed through the air.
The dragons, who had stood boldly just seconds before, suddenly recoiled. Their cold eyes flickered with fear. They took a few steps back—and roared like frightened cats.
Most of the crowd’s jaws felt like dropping when they saw the dragons revealing their true forms. So, dragons had been among them all this time?
But Drakion and the dragons paid no heed to their shock—for what stood before them was far greater.
"Such baby dragons... Well, they’ll be enough to fill my teeth."
The Dragon Eater laughed.
ROAR!
Kaidros and the others roared as they charged toward the Dragon Eater.
"Oh, I like your boldness," the Dragon Eater chuckled.
Suddenly, dark tentacles burst out from the mouth on its chest, seizing Finn and Noctheria’s wings. With a brutal drag, their wings were torn off—blood spilling everywhere. Finn and Noctheria could no longer stay aloft; they plummeted to the ground, roaring out in pain. A dark mist burned where their wings had been severed, making regeneration impossible.
The tentacles withdrew as the Dragon Eater crunched on the torn flesh.
"Ah, it’s been so long since I’ve eaten dragon... Still as delicious as always."
More tentacles slithered from its chest-mouth. This time, it ripped the wings from Draco Wolf, Stryx, and Blaze. It chewed on the remains slowly—savoring every piece like the finest delicacy.
Now, only Kaidros and Lizzy had their wings intact, but terror spread through their bodies as they witnessed the downfall of their comrades.
Drakion watched in utter astonishment. They were like beggars before a god—utterly helpless as their limbs were devoured.
Within moments, only three remained.
The crowd watching was stunned. The dragons they knew as hegemons were being dismantled—devoured—by an unknown nightmare. Even those proud beasts cowered like cats.
Panic. Dread. Disbelief. These swept through the onlookers. The dragons, once majestic and dominant, were being crushed like ants.
The Dragon Eater simply observed with an amused smile, clearly enjoying the carnage.
"This isn’t enough..."
Drakion felt a chill—a terrible omen—as the Dragon Eater’s gaze fixed on him, even through its hollow sockets. He instinctively stepped back, fear wrapping around him like chains.
Suddenly, Kaidros and Lizzy stood in front of him, shielding him with their bodies.
"Get out of the way," the Dragon Eater growled, flinging them aside with its tentacles before focusing once more on Drakion.
The other wounded dragons rushed forward, forcing their failing bodies between Drakion and the predator.
When the Dragon Eater saw this, it became enraged. It wanted to consume Drakion, but these pathetic creatures dared to defy it?
"Then I’ll eat you all!"
The Dragon Eater roared.
Its tentacles lashed out, seizing one of the dragons. The others tried to intervene—but they were too slow.
They could only watch in horror as the Dragon Eater’s chest-mouth opened wide... and swallowed the dragon whole.
CRUNCH!
At that moment, the sky shattered in Drakion’s mind.
"Stryx!!"
CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
The world turned black and white before Drakion. He couldn’t feel anything—only the sound of the Dragon Eater devouring Stryx, and the horrific sight unfolding before him.
Drakion’s eyes were wide open, frozen in place, disbelief swirling endlessly within them.
"So delicious," the Dragon Eater muttered.
"Now... for the remaining dishes."
