Chapter 337: Chapter 337: Partners

The next morning, Gu Ningyue was woken up by the alarm clock.

Outside, the sky was overcast, and the window had been blown open by the wind at some point. A slightly damp breeze drifted in, causing her to shiver involuntarily.

Getting up to close the window, Gu Ningyue looked at the increasingly heavy clouds in the sky, and her originally good mood turned a bit somber.

"Looks like things won’t go too smoothly today!"

Picking up the clothes she planned to wear, she went into the bathroom. While applying medicine, Gu Ningyue suddenly remembered that she needed to go for a check-up.

With so much going on, she had even forgotten about that.

After changing her clothes, she went downstairs to find Ling Tianyou already sitting at the table having breakfast.

"Good morning."

"Good morning." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Aunt Zhang carried over freshly cooked white rice porridge, her smile seemingly unaffected by the weather, still as warm as ever: "Good morning, Young Madam."

Gu Ningyue nodded, pulled out a chair, and sat opposite Ling Tianyou: "If we have enough time, shall we go to the hospital for a check-up after we return from the detention center? It’s time for the follow-up!"

Ling Tianyou was taken aback: "It’s that time already?"

Gu Ningyue answered, "Yes, but going a day early is fine."

She was meeting Nan Shaoyue in the afternoon, and it was beneficial for her to know the condition of her injuries in advance.

After a simple breakfast, Gu Ningyue left the house with Ling Tianyou.

On the way, Ling Tianyou played a soft instrumental piece, which alleviated some of the negative influence brought on by the weather.

Gu Ningyue sat quietly in the passenger seat, reading a message from Lin Ruixian on her phone, "When are you coming to U country? Your master seems to be moving to another city!"

Gu Ningyue frowned slightly as she read the message: "I have some things on my hands. If I’m not injured, there’s a slight hope of coming over the day after tomorrow."

She had no idea what was happening with Nan Shaoyue’s side, so she dared not make any promises to Lin Ruixian.

"What, are you going to get into another fight?" Lin Ruixian was surprised and sent two consecutive messages: "Your life certainly seems more fulfilling than when you were in the organization!"

Gu Ningyue rolled her eyes; what could she do? Wasn’t this a result of her past mistakes?

"Let’s talk later! I’m a bit busy right now and will respond to you later."

Far away, Lin Ruixian saw this message pop up on his phone and couldn’t help but curl his lips. What, was he just a tool to her?

"What, got dumped?"

A woman’s voice came from behind, and Lin Ruixian turned around, his expression returning to its usual carefree look: "I don’t even have a girlfriend, who could dump me? I wish, though, unfortunately."

"Well, why don’t you give it a shot with me?"

Looking at the beautiful and enticing woman in front of him, Lin Ruixian didn’t hesitate before directly refusing: "I wouldn’t dare let Shi Qiao’an’s woman be my girlfriend. If he found out, wouldn’t he have someone chop me to pieces?"

As a master forger in the organization, besides some brand-name jewelry, Shi Qiao’an also helps some of the organization’s assassins develop special weapons.

He held a very important position in the organization. If he knew Lin Ruixian coveted the woman in front of him, wouldn’t that cause trouble for himself?

Moreover, the person in his heart had never changed.

The woman’s face showed some displeasure at Lin Ruixian’s rejection, but it quickly disappeared, replaced by a question: "By the way, when are you going back to the organization? The big boss has been expressing regret after you left!"

Lin Ruixian shook his head, his refusal even firmer than before: "I’m not planning to return. From the moment I left, I never had that thought again."

A good horse doesn’t turn back to graze on backward grass, let alone the fact that he had worked hard to leave the organization and lead an ordinary life. How could he go back to that way of life?

Although it didn’t affect him too much, the Lin Family was no longer what it used to be. If he made enemies and brought trouble to his family, wouldn’t he regret it for the rest of his life?

"What a pity." The woman swirled her wine glass: "Not long after you left, Gu Weiwei also died; you’ve probably seen the news in the papers! There are fewer and fewer useful people in the organization."

"You wouldn’t believe how the big boss mourned losing both of you at once, almost never giving the people below him any good face!"

Lin Ruixian laughed: "New people will always come in, and after retraining, they’ll surely be better than us."

The woman looked Lin Ruixian up and down: "Gu Weiwei’s death doesn’t seem to sadden you at all. I remember you seemed to have something special with her, didn’t you?"

Lin Ruixian paused for a moment, then calmly said: "People die. With time, I’ve come to terms with it."

Though this was a bit of a lie, it was better than telling the woman that Gu Weiwei hadn’t died, she had merely assumed another identity.

If he really said that, he’d probably be thought of as insane.

"Tsk!" The woman sneered: "Indeed, that’s men for you. I bet if I were gone, that heartless Qiao’an would forget about me just as quickly and then go out gallivanting!"

Lin Ruixian smiled lightly: "He wouldn’t. Shi Qiao’an loves you so much he’d stick by your side every day if he could. How could he go gallivanting after your death?"

"He’d wait at least a year or two!"

"Whack!" A pillow flew from the sofa, hitting Lin Ruixian squarely.

Lin Ruixian wasn’t mad, laughing as he picked up the pillow and placed it back, sitting next to the woman: "By the way, how did you get out this time? Shi Qiao’an actually let you come to U country alone?"

The woman hesitated for two seconds, then selectively shared, "There was a task, to find someone, but Qiao’an got tied up with something, so he let me come!"

Lin Ruixian nodded, understanding the organization’s work rules. Sharing even this much was a courtesy extended because of his previous membership: "I see! How long are you staying in U country? I might not be able to assist much since I’ll have friends visiting soon."

The woman smiled: "No worries, you do what you need to. As long as I find that person, just help me ask them something."

"No problem!" Lin Ruixian said, looking at the woman: "Who knows, I might have something to ask you and Shi Qiao’an when I head back to Z country. We’re sort of partners, aren’t we?"

The woman replied coolly: "A temporary partnership, as long as... the organization doesn’t find out."

In a sense, the organization prohibits its members from having work-related interactions with regular people without permission.

But with the severe personnel loss in recent years, as long as things aren’t made public or go overboard, the big boss usually wouldn’t pursue it.
