Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite-Chapter 663 - 269: Snatching the Bride (Part 2)
"We don’t really have much of a special connection, do we?" Hang Yishao nearly laughed himself breathless, and at last agreed to Qiu Zhi’s tearful request to be his best man.
After squeezing through the door, Qiu Zhi caught sight of the two large aunties guarding the entrance, and his fatty liver started trembling as if it was trying to shift outside; when he attempted to make a move, he was pushed forward by the best man crew and Hang Yishao who had just arrived.
"Fatty, you’ve gotten fatter," Lin Ying didn’t get it. Being from the same country, the moment she went abroad, she couldn’t stop losing weight, while Qiu Zhi just kept putting it on.
Hang Yishao, with a bouquet in hand, quickly took stock of the situation in the apartment. Su Ziceng’s apartment was roughly 130 square meters, decorated red and festive everywhere.
Lin Ying and Sister Mu were standing in the room, with the door tightly shut, from inside which could be heard the whispers of Su Ziceng, Jim, and others.
The subdued laughter made Hang Yishao itch with curiosity, and he could barely hold the bouquet steady. He glanced at Lin Ying and Sister Mu and buttered them up, saying: "Ladies... beautiful ladies," Hang Yishao pondered what to call them, thinking that ’sister’ wasn’t quite right and ’miss’ might be disrespectful, deciding that ’ladies’ was the safest bet.
Sister Mu, the enforcer of the strict face, cleared her throat, "Mr. Hang, if you want to get through this door, it’s time to see how sincere you really are."
His friends behind him promptly chorused: "Sincere, Yishao is nothing short of offering his heart on a platter."
Seeing no response from Sister Mu, Hang Yishao quickly said, "I promise to treat Ziceng... my wife with all the sincerity in my heart."
That came out smoothly, Lin Ying and Sister Mu looked at each other and smiled, then said, "Well then, we can’t feel your sincerity."
Hang Yishao understood and quickly took out several red envelopes from beside him.
The thin red envelopes didn’t seem to carry much weight. Sister Mu, living up to her reputation as a miser, complained, "That’s it?"
"Check," Hang Yishao knew, when marrying a nouveau riche woman, her circle of friends and family were all no easy pushovers. Not just Lin Ying, Jim, and the likes, Sister Mu was a woman with a big appetite. This time, he really bled money.
Sister Mu efficiently tore open the envelope and indeed pulled out a bank check. After seeing the string of six-figure nines on it, she reluctantly accepted it.
Lin Ying took it afterward and hesitated, thinking it felt wrong to just take a big sum of money from someone for no good reason.
"We’re not taking it for nothing, alright," Sister Mu murmured, pointing at the eager best men behind Hang Yishao, suggesting not to assume that money could simply bribe them. "Ziceng is going on a honeymoon with him, plus they’ll have kids in the future, each of which will tie up Espr’s resources. Scrounging some cash is like finding a nutrition fund for us."
Sister Mu’s calculations were sharp, and the best men, led by Qiu Zhi, started to surge forward. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Don’t push!" Lin Ying desperately tried to shove Qiu Zhi back out. These men had some brains, using Qiu Zhi, this human meatball, as their steamroller. The strength of just two women was entirely unable to stop a man of Qiu Zhi’s size.
Lin Ying was furious, shouting: "Keep pushing, and I’ll accuse you of harassment!"
Inside the apartment, it suddenly went quiet. Qiu Zhi spread his hands and pushed the few feeble best men behind him back several steps, maintaining with Lin Ying a distance that legally ruled out any possibility of harassment.
"That’s more like it," Lin Ying took a deep breath, the pressure from a moment ago almost made her pass out.
A dead shot attracts the most gunfire; Lin Ying targeted Qiu Zhi, who was at the forefront, "You, come out and perform a ballet dance."
Qiu Zhi’s hands froze mid-air, stiff like a fat swan. His fellow best men hastily distanced themselves from him, fearing that with one careless move, they would be tapped by Lin Ying and join the "Swan Group Dance."
If he could, Qiu Zhi would have retreated, but he was in a bind, sandwiched between the eyes of the men behind and the women in front, making any action he took the wrong choice.
If only he knew, he would have preferred to be a bridesmaid rather than joining this spineless group of best men. It’s always better to torment others than to be tormented oneself.
Lin Ying, a natural-born Queen, first used her intent gaze like a viper eyeing a corpulent prince frog to pin down Qiu Zhi, then whipped out her phone aiming at him.
Qiu Zhi shuddered, considering the numerous expectant gazes behind him and the two fiercely vigilant women in front of him.
Wrong again, a few more pairs of eyes joined; both Qiu Zhi and Hang Yishao noticed that those inside the room couldn’t stand it any longer, each crowding at the edge of the door, prying open a gap to peer into the living room.
"Brother, take one for the team," Hang Yishao said from behind, giving Qiu Zhi a pat on the shoulder.
Qiu Zhi replied with a mournful look. As soon as their eyes met, both got the idea, instantly understanding each other.
"Charge!" Just when Lin Ying was ready to snap a photo, the gang of men suddenly shouted and charged towards the bridal room. Their aggressive push frightened the group of bridesmaids, who had no time to react before the men reached the door.
In the chaos, Lin Ying’s phone went flying, and cries of dismay – whose they were, nobody knew – rang out. At that moment, nobody cared who was underfoot; their only concern was stopping the wolf-like pack of men.
And the best men who reached the door couldn’t care less about anything else, with just one goal in mind – the incredibly fragile door.
With a "bang," the door panel was crushed. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to Qidian (qidian.com) to cast your recommendation votes and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
