Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite-Chapter 568 - 229: Embarrassment at the Banquet (Second Update)
"Isn’t this just an ordinary banquet?" Su Ziceng, holding Hang Yishao’s hand, entered the banquet hall. She hadn’t attended such an event for quite some time, and had it not been for Hang Yishao saying he was urgently in need of a dance partner, she would not have agreed to accompany him.
"My dad told me it was just an ordinary banquet. Originally, my parents were supposed to attend tonight, but just before leaving, my mom felt unwell," Hang Yishao explained. He mentioned that the preparation was somewhat rushed, yet he had even prepared a gown for Su Ziceng.
He was in a light beige suit, while Su Ziceng was in an elegant white dress. The two together looked quite matched. As soon as they entered the hall, many people recognized Su Ziceng. Seeing her with Hang Yishao, many quietly murmured.
Su Ziceng felt a bit embarrassed, but Hang Yishao didn’t seem to think there was anything particularly unusual. The banquet hall was filled with notable people and officials from the city; this banquet was certainly not ordinary. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
"What is tonight’s banquet for?" Su Ziceng quietly inquired, having already spotted the mayor. Ordinary banquets wouldn’t have the mayor and the secretary of the municipal party committee attending.
"They say some central guest is visiting," Hang Yishao coughed softly, "We’re just minor characters, you needn’t pay special attention."
The main characters for tonight hadn’t shown up yet?
There was a commotion at the entrance, Pello and Wen Maixue walked in. Wen Maixue was wearing the same dress as Su Ziceng, and Pello in a beige suit, such matching was too much of a coincidence.
Su Ziceng turned around wanting to avoid them but Hang Yishao held her back. Su Ziceng then realized that tonight’s banquet was not ordinary.
"We were here first, what’s there to fear?" The same suits and dresses, when put on different people, presented entirely distinct flavors. Wen Maixue might not suit red, but Su Ziceng was gradually becoming suited to white. A mild white, coupled with her increasingly serene and cool gaze, made her look from afar like an exquisitely carved ice flower.
Pello also noticed the two nearby. He took off his coat and draped it over Wen Maixue’s shoulders, revealing his well-fitted vest. The same jacket, but different attire underneath.
"I suddenly feel it’s unnecessary to participate in this banquet," Hang Yishao heard murmurs by his ear, placed his hand on Su Ziceng’s waist, and walked out with her. The banquet had been going on for a while, yet the person father mentioned hadn’t appeared. Could the information be wrong?
"Pello, wasn’t Mr. Deng supposed to attend this banquet?" Wen Maixue pretended not to notice Pello’s brief lapse, gently tugging at his sleeve.
"Perhaps the old man was frightened away by the officials’ pretentious style here," Pello joked. Mo City’s wealthy bureaucrats actually used imported caviar and top-tier foreign liquor to entertain the always simplistic Mr. Deng. It went without saying that this banquet would not wait for its true intended guest.
Just as Hang Yishao stepped out of the banquet hall, he saw that the cars originally parked outside were gone, as were the policemen and security guards who had been standing outside.
"Ziceng, stay here for a moment, I’ll go back and check," Hang Yishao was somewhat confused, as the surrounding vehicles seemed to suddenly have vanished.
After Hang Yishao walked away, Su Ziceng stood waiting in place for a while.
"Girl," she heard someone calling from behind her, but turning around, she saw no one.
"Over here," the voice came from the bushes on her left hand side. Su Ziceng took a few steps and then saw Mr. Deng sitting alone on the grass.
"Mr. Deng," Su Ziceng was startled, the guest for today’s banquet turned out to be Mr. Deng, "Why have you come to the South?"
"This is my second Southern Inspection," Mr. Deng smiled and said, "Consider it fulfilling a wish of mine before death."
Inside the banquet hall, shadows flickered among the people. Outside, a young and an old were crouched on the lawn.
"Why aren’t you going inside? All those people inside are waiting for you," Su Ziceng looked back, Hang Yishao hadn’t come out yet.
"No need to look anymore, that young man who just went inside has likely been stopped by my orderlies," Mr. Deng’s words confused Su Ziceng once more.
"Those cars outside, and... Did you come to the South for your inspection just to talk to me... hiding behind the bushes," Su Ziceng glanced at the bushes where they were hiding, also a corner of the lawn, this great leader of the country actually had a habit of crouching in corners.
