Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite-Chapter 456 - 190: Crisis of Counterfeits (Part 3)
"Chairman," Pello stood by, his gaze falling on the several small medicine bottles, filled with pills of various colors; blood pressure medication, sedatives, and all kinds of nutritional supplements. Su Qingzhang would be surrounded by these pills, cut off from everything outside.
"Are you truly sincere towards Ziceng?" Su Qingzhang sighed, feeling a tightness in his chest.
Pello did not answer him, he did not even ponder, but just stared steadily at Su Qingzhang’s eyes which no longer bore their usual authority. At this moment, Su Qingzhang was merely an ordinary father concerned about his daughter.
"I have two daughters," Su Qingzhang sighed, "I don’t want either of them to be wronged."
Pello was somewhat puzzled; Su Qingzhang clearly had only one daughter, Su Ziceng. Who was this other daughter he spoke of?
"People from outside say I’m foolish for treating Chang Chi as my own daughter. In fact, she is the Su Family’s eldest daughter." Su Qingzhang did not understand why he was telling Pello this.
The strange behavior of Chang Chi today made Su Qingzhang extremely pained; because of Chang Mei’s request, he had never made this matter public, which has caused years of discord between Su Ziceng and Chang Chi as sisters.
"What do you mean by telling me this?" Pello suppressed his shock. Su Qingzhang on the sickbed looked weaker than usual and more candid.
"I want both of them to be happy. If Ziceng is left in your care, I believe she can have a happy future. But Xiao Chi is different, she has deep feelings for Yishao," sighed Su Qingzhang, only after seeing the mechanically silent Chang Chi did he remember he had two daughters.
If Hang Yishao could marry Chang Chi, then everything would come full circle. But the prerequisite is that Pello must promise to treat Su Ziceng well.
"I’m curious, between these two daughters, which one do you love more? As far as I know, your treatment towards Ziceng is utterly devoid of affection," Pello laughed somewhat at Su Qingzhang’s arrangements, thinking what made Su Qingzhang assume he had the power to settle everyone’s future single-handedly.
"When facing Ziceng, I’m unable to express my love," Su Qingzhang said as he closed his eyes.
"When she was born, I lost the two people I loved most in the world. I have always believed in fate, Ziceng was a child of misfortune."
"Perhaps, the source of the misfortune is none other than the Chairman himself," Pello’s words made Su Qingzhang open his eyes.
Pello, standing in front of Su Qingzhang, cast a large shadow, almost blocking all the light in the room.
Su Qingzhang looked at the man before him, feeling the darkness wash over in waves, as Pello smiled lightly, standing aside.
Downstairs in the living room, just as a guest had poured some tea, they saw Chang Chi bringing up the freshly cut fruit, pausing briefly on the spacious staircase.
Su Ziceng hesitated for a moment and asked, "Is Secretary Chang well?"
"Save your pretenses, don’t pretend you know nothing about the matter," Chang Chi pulled down Su Ziceng.
As she reached the top of the stairs, she slowed down and turned her head.
Looking up from below, Su Ziceng noticed Chang Chi’s hand trembling violently. The big clock in the living room struck four times, sounding like a death knell in Chang Chi’s ears.
The crescent-shaped pale yellow apple rolled onto the floor.
Chang Chi squatted down, picking up the apple. Su Ziceng walked past her, noticing her uneven shoulders. The protruding bone on her exposed neck was so striking it hurt to look at.
"Do you think you’ve won?" Chang Chi spoke to the pieces of apple in her hand, their ripe flesh having turned an ugly sour yellow after being oxidized by air.
"Chang Chi, all these years, aside from Hang Yishao, there have been no real conflicts between us," Su Ziceng thought that by setting aside the matter of Hang Yishao, even if they could not become friends, they could still interact like normal people.
"Hang Yishao doesn’t want me," Chang Chi stood up, glaring at Su Ziceng, "He will regret it."
Chang Chi threw all the dirty apple slices into the trash can in one go.
"Nonsense," Su Ziceng, worried that the tea would get cold, went upstairs first.
Hang Yishao, the focus of their conversation, searched everywhere and couldn’t find a suitable jewelry box. Eventually, he parked his car in an indoor garage of a department store, followed closely by a black car that also stopped.
Just as Hang Yishao stepped out of the car and hadn’t locked it yet, he felt a pain around his neck, then his body went limp and he collapsed to the ground. (To be continued.
