Rebirth: She is Ready for a Counterattack!-Chapter 260 - 259: An Unexpected Visit (Fifth Update)
This morning was spent on an IV drip.
Gu Xiaoqing was almost bored to death. If it weren’t for Fang Shaohan sitting on a chair beside her, occasionally handing her a peeled apple or a cup of water, Gu Xiaoqing wouldn’t know what to do.
The two of them spoke very little, hardly any communication—mainly because Gu Xiaoqing was shy. She still hadn’t recovered from the events of yesterday.
Fang Shaohan, on the other hand, seemed completely at ease.
"What are you doing in Shanghai?"
Gu Xiaoqing broke the silence, sensing that staying quiet somehow felt strange, and this atmosphere seemed all the more ambiguous.
Might as well find something to talk about.
Fang Shaohan sat down and glanced at the IV bottle, noticing it was at its last half. It should be finished before lunch.
"I’m on a business trip. I originally came to check on you. I heard from your parents that you’re not going back home this summer, so I thought I’d see you. Who would have thought that as soon as I arrived at your shop yesterday and opened the door, I’d be shocked—there you were, faint from heatstroke."
Thinking back to yesterday, Fang Shaohan felt annoyed. Seeing Gu Xiaoqing, looking so weak and lifeless, was not what he wanted. He preferred seeing Gu Xiaoqing gentle and soothing, but seeing her so frail and pitiful, Fang Shaohan would rather she be the fierce girl who could stand up to him.
Gu Xiaoqing felt a little embarrassed.
"Well, actually, I’m fine. My health is really good. I was just looking for a place near the school, but I didn’t expect Shanghai’s heat to be so overwhelming. After these ten-odd days, I ended up with heatstroke. But, thank you. It seems every time I run into trouble, you’re there. Maybe you’re my guardian angel."
Gu Xiaoqing teased Fang Shaohan.
Fang Shaohan’s eyes curved with amusement, "You’re looking for a place to rent?"
This girl thought too much; he couldn’t rush things with her.
"I want to buy an apartment, something more convenient. Mainly because I’ve set up a milk tea shop, so it’s easy for me not to go back home over the summer and winter holidays. School dormitories aren’t the best option either, so I thought of making a home. It’d be more comfortable to live in."
Gu Xiaoqing spoke to Fang Shaohan almost like he was a friend, without hiding anything.
Fang Shaohan thought for a moment and said, "I’ll ask around for you, to prevent you from running around like a headless chicken. I have contacts here, and I should hear back pretty quickly."
The main thing was he couldn’t bear the thought of this woman running around outside in forty-degree weather.
It pained his heart.
"That would be great, thank you so much."
Gu Xiaoqing immediately felt excited. It was much better than asking aimlessly on her own.
"Your thanks are too cheap, just saying it with your mouth."
Fang Shaohan jokingly complained.
Gu Xiaoqing smirked awkwardly, "Alright then, once I’m better, I’ll treat you to a big meal." Just as she finished speaking, she noticed the big guy frowning, clearly not satisfied.
Being right, helping her so many times just to have one meal, that’s not really enough.
She quickly changed her tune: "How about this, whenever you come to Shanghai, I’ll make sure to be a good host and entertain you well."
Fang Shaohan’s furrowed brow relaxed.
Gu Xiaoqing thought, this guy is really hard to please.
The IV drip finished, and Fang Shaohan went out to get lunch, which he had long arranged with Fan Bin and the canteen to prepare something special.
As soon as Gu Xiaoqing opened the lunchbox lid and before she could pick up her chopsticks, the hospital room door was pushed open, and five or six men walked in, all well-built.
Gu Xiaoqing was startled.
Looking closely, these people seemed to be elite types, except for one man in a police uniform. The rest were all dressed in suits and ties. The most exasperating thing was that each of them was handsome, real lookers!
This eye-catching scene had little nurses peeking in from time to time.
"You must be sister-in-law; I’m Lu Qi, nice to meet you for the first time."
"Sister-in-law, I’m Han Xiao. I heard you’re not feeling well, so I brought you some stuff. You need to get better; health is important."
"Sister-in-law, I’m Fei Nan. Are you having lunch now? Look at my big brother; he doesn’t know how to take care of someone. This patient meal is far too greasy and lacks nutrition. Here, have what I brought, made by a top chef, strictly in line with a patient’s nutritional needs, rest assured." He directly took away the lunchbox in front of Gu Xiaoqing and set up a set of delicate tableware, opening an insulated food container with a spread of exquisite dishes.
Gu Xiaoqing was dumbfounded.
"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, I’m with Momo, and this is Liu Yunfei; we’re all the boss’s men. Don’t worry. If you need anything, just say the word, and we’ll make sure it’s taken care of."
Seeing these five doting men, all handsome gents hovering attentively, Gu Xiaoqing was rendered speechless.
She swiftly turned her gaze to Fang Shaohan, knowing this had something to do with him.
Fang Shaohan cleared his throat, and the room quieted down considerably.
"Boss, we heard sister-in-law was hospitalized, and we came to check on her. We couldn’t let her suffer."
The five of them put on a show for Fang Shaohan.
With that mischievous look, it’s hard to believe Fang Shaohan was anything but a joke to them.
"These are my brothers, we all came from the same military unit, childhood pals, all on our side. If you ever need help, you can find them. I’m far away and sometimes can’t look after you, so don’t be shy with them."
Fang Shaohan calmly served soup to Gu Xiaoqing, handing her the chopsticks.
He acted with such familiarity as if they were an old married couple.
Gu Xiaoqing could only agree. Luckily, she’s someone who’s seen the world, older and wiser, handling these young men with composure.
Clearly, these are a bunch of privileged kids, likely from families similar to Fang Shaohan’s, not official heirs but probably rich second-generation kids.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been childhood friends with Fang Shaohan.
"Hello, I’m Gu Xiaoqing, a friend of Fang Shaohan’s. Nice to meet you all."
She greeted them gracefully.
The five men took a good look at Gu Xiaoqing. This girl didn’t seem just elementary school level, but facing these five bandit-like figures, she showed no fear, quite poised under circumstances.
A remarkable girl indeed.
She must be the daughter of some military general.
The five kept nodding since Fang Shaohan was glaring, preventing any shenanigans.
But with so many people, Gu Xiaoqing couldn’t eat.
She told Fang Shaohan, "It’s lunchtime, why don’t you take them out to eat? It’s not good for you all to be hungry while I’m the only one eating; I feel embarrassed."
Fang Shaohan had thought of this and nodded, taking the surprised five out with him.
