Chapter 232: Chapter 231: Hot Noodles (Second Update)

"Xiaoqing, don’t ever say that again, I don’t like hearing it. Shang Wenming is the partner I’ve chosen. If you think him working at the Gu Family is taking advantage, then I can have him leave. I want to marry him; we can open a shop ourselves. I have that capability."

Gu Xiaoying calmly stated.

Her eyes and brows were filled with ice and tranquility.

Gu Xiaoqing looked at her sister in shock, suddenly realizing she might have been wrong about many things.

She arrogantly believed she was changing many tragic things from the past life, but these were experiences she alone had, experiences the others, her family, did not share, and they may only perceive her as domineering and overly intrusive in their lives.

Perhaps in Gu Xiaoying’s heart, Gu Xiaoqing was merely someone irrationally disturbing her happiness, rather than someone meticulously trying to save her.

This is the difference, isn’t it?

Gu Xiaoqing felt a touch of helpless sadness.

It was as if she had been suddenly abandoned by the entire world, everything she did becoming meaningless.

Gu Xiaoying did not continue speaking, but silently walked downstairs.

Downstairs was filled with laughter.

Shang Wenming, with sleeves rolled up, was helping Li Xuemei serve the dishes while cracking jokes, causing Gu Ruhai and Gu Xiaojie at the table to chuckle heartily, truly a scene of joy and harmony.

Recently, Shang Wenming had already blended into this family, gradually and imperceptibly occupying an important position within it.

Gu Xiaoying suddenly felt that this was warmth, what she wanted and pursued.

In her heart, she automatically blocked out the scene just now.

Gu Xiaoqing felt something damp on her face, touched it with her fingers, and realized it was tears. It seemed that since being reborn, Gu Xiaoqing hadn’t shed tears for a long time.

This feeling of being hurt was really fucking painful.

Putting on her coat, Gu Xiaoqing thought she needed to calm down, or else facing Shang Wenming and Gu Xiaoying, she might not know what she’d do, or recklessly say something hurtful to her sister.

She hurried downstairs and told Gu Ruhai, "Dad, I’m going out for a bit. You all eat first, don’t wait for me."

Then disappeared through the front door.

In the darkness of night, when the sky had already turned black.

Gu Xiaoying looked up, her expression gloomy, glanced at the slowly closing door.

Didn’t say a word.

Shang Wenming was holding a plate of dishes, standing by the table, sensitively realizing all of this had something to do with him. Looking at Gu Xiaoying’s face, Shang Wenming cleverly didn’t ask any questions.

Still friendly and amiably invited Gu Ruhai and Gu Xiaojie to the table.

No matter the problem, Shang Wenming knew that as long as he captured Gu Xiaoying’s heart, nothing would change, everything in this house would still be firmly in his grasp.

A little girl was not to be feared.

The family started eating.

Gu Xiaoqing walked on the road, tightened the collar of her coat. Winter here was different from Shanghai’s; it wasn’t that she wasn’t accustomed to the harsh cold, but that coldness emanated from within her heart.

Years of sisterly affection couldn’t withstand a man’s sweet talk, is this the process of growth that life must go through?

Gu Xiaoqing was at a loss.

Walking aimlessly without direction.

Always feeling like the world is so vast yet there’s no place for her, suddenly lost her sense of direction.

Suddenly, the horn of a car sounded beside her, Gu Xiaoqing numbly stepped aside, making way for the car behind her.

Under the glaring car lights, Gu Xiaoqing’s face looked ghostly.

Her eyes were a bit vacant, unfocused.

The car didn’t drive away as expected; instead, it stopped, and the car door opened.

"Get in!"

A familiar voice, Gu Xiaoqing shook her head, in a daze realized it was Fang Shaohan.

Seemingly unconsciously, she stepped into the car.

The warm temperature of the car’s air conditioning made Gu Xiaoqing shiver.

Fang Shaohan closed the door, turned up the air conditioning a bit more, then took off his coat and silently draped it over Gu Xiaoqing, adjusting her collar.

Gu Xiaoqing shrank a little, then remained silent, staring ahead dumbly, looking a bit pitiful. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"What’s wrong?"

Fang Shaohan had never seen Gu Xiaoqing like this, even on those messy nights, those nights when she needed protection, she never appeared this sullen and at a loss, that brave warrior, the strong woman in his mind like a rock, had suddenly vanished, becoming so humble and bewildered.

What did she encounter?

It seemed to be something mental, the blow was evident.

The car moved steadily.

Gu Xiaoqing slowly regained her senses, tried to force out a smile, but sadly she didn’t know that smile was sadder than no smile at all.

"Nothing, just wanted to take a walk."

Perhaps everyone has something in their heart they cannot share with others.

Fang Shaohan wasn’t yet someone Gu Xiaoqing was familiar enough with to entrust her secrets.

Fang Shaohan didn’t speak, drove the car directly to the entrance of a small shop, then closed the car door and went inside.

Gu Xiaoqing blankly watched as Fang Shaohan disappeared behind the shop’s curtain.

Feeling chaotic inside, her mind was empty.

Memories of the past few years since her rebirth surged turbulently through her mind, those days of communication and coordination with her sister, the days of laughing and playing together, all seemed to have changed with the arrival of Shang Wenming.

The sister who loved her seemed to have placed all of her emotions onto Shang Wenming, those days without gaps would never return again.

Maybe she really had done many things wrong.

The car door snapped shut loudly, Gu Xiaoqing looked up quickly, and a bowl of hot soup noodles was handed to her, creamy soup with a few green vegetables floating on top, and a golden fried egg; her stomach involuntarily grumbled.

"Eat. Looking at you, I knew you hadn’t eaten; I was afraid you’d starve to death in my car."

Fang Shaohan’s mouth never spoke kind words.

Gu Xiaoqing took it, disregarding any image, started eating big mouthfuls, slurping down the noodles with the soup; immediately warmth spread through her body, sweat beads forming on her forehead.

Fang Shaohan took the bowl away, got out of the car and returned it to the shop.

Gu Xiaoqing’s heart was warm, being cared for and looked after like this, the earlier unhappiness seemed to dissipate.

At least it wasn’t a chilling feeling in her heart.

The car continued moving, after a while, Fang Shaohan stopped the car, looked at Gu Xiaoqing without speaking.

Gu Xiaoqing looked up at Fang Shaohan, being stared at with such a sharp gaze, she felt as if she was seen through from head to toe, feeling completely at a loss.
