Rebirth: Revenge of the abandoned heirress-Chapter 23: Ruined dress
Chapter 23 - Ruined dress
Rosaline was not happy to hear all those praises. Her first move had failed.
Just then, Sabrina Voss approached the group with a bright smile.
"Hello!" Sabrina greeted warmly. "We'll be starting the live stream soon."
Suddenly, Sabrina's eyes widened in delight as she recognized someone familiar.
"I can't believe it! Is that Amelia? The famous Amelia?" Sabrina's excitement bubbled over. "Such a pleasant surprise! Are you here to take part in my reality show?"
Sabrina could hardly contain her joy. If Amelia joined the show, her ratings would skyrocket. Having such a well-known figure appear would guarantee the most-watched episode of the month — she was sure of it.
Amelia smiled graciously. "Yes, I'd be happy to participate."
Sabrina chattered away, clearly thrilled, while Rosaline stood off to the side, her irritation barely concealed.
Feeling ignored, Rosaline forced a smile and stepped forward.
"Sister Amelia, it's such an honor to meet you," Rosaline said sweetly, her tone laced with fake admiration. "I've heard so much about you. As someone new to the industry, it's inspiring to meet someone so experienced. And with you constantly in the media headlines these days... you're quite famous."
Her words carried a subtle jab — a reference to Amelia's recent scandal.
The incident had been nothing more than a petty scheme orchestrated by Caroline Anderson, Amelia's biggest competitor. Despite being baseless, the media had feasted on the drama because Amelia's name sold headlines.
But Amelia wasn't one to back down from a challenge.
"I'm sorry," Amelia said sweetly, her brows lifting in feigned confusion. "Who are you again?"
Rosaline's smile stiffened.
"Oh," Amelia continued, her voice dripping with false innocence. "Are you really in the industry? I keep an eye out for talented newcomers, but I don't recognize you."
The message was clear — if Rosaline wasn't on Amelia's radar, she wasn't worth noticing.
Rosaline swallowed her frustration, forcing her smile to stay in place.
"I don't make headlines because of scandals," Rosaline shot back, her voice light yet defensive. "So naturally, you wouldn't know me."
Amelia giggled delicately, placing her fingers over her lips.
"Well," Amelia said with mock sympathy, "it's true — one must be famous to make headlines in the first place. But still... I find it strange that I don't recognize you. Pardon me — from now on, I'll widen my standards to include more people."
The insult hit hard. Amelia had just implied she'd have to lower her standards to remember Rosaline.
Rosaline's smile faltered. She struggled to come up with a retort, but the damage was done. Gradually, the guests' attention shifted away from her. Every time Rosaline tried to strike up conversation, she was met with polite nods and quick turnarounds.
'Wait till the show starts,' Rosaline fumed. Her gaze sharpened as she glared at Jazmine Harrison and Amelia. The two stood in the middle of a lively crowd, surrounded by Amelia's admirers.
This wasn't how things were supposed to go. The guests had been invited to mock Jazmine — to embarrass her in front of everyone. Yet somehow, Jazmine had turned things around by inviting Amelia — her powerful competitor — to steal the spotlight.
Rosaline clenched her fists. She wouldn't lose that easily.
'I'll get back at you soon.'
Once Jazmine reached her old room, Rosaline appeared at her door, knocking lightly before stepping inside.
"Elder sister," Rosaline called sweetly, "the other day, David and I went shopping. I personally picked out this dress for you. Even David liked it."
Her voice was deliberately soft, but her words were calculated to wound. Mentioning David Anderson — Jazmine's paper husband and biggest heartbreak — was a low blow.
"I'd really love it if you wore it for the show," Rosaline added, her smile growing.
Jazmine barely spared the dress a glance. "Leave it here. I'll wear it," she said coldly.
Rosaline's smile stiffened. She'd hoped to see Jazmine's face crumble — to see her tears or hear her voice shake. But Jazmine remained calm, emotionless.
"You know," Rosaline continued, her tone casual yet venomous, "that day David even bought me this necklace I'm wearing now." She toyed with the pendant around her neck. "He said it matched my fair skin perfectly. I told him it was too expensive, but he insisted. Said I was worth so much more."
She sighed dramatically. "I didn't feel right accepting so many gifts, so I tried to buy him a watch in return. I picked out the perfect one... but since it was his own mall, they wouldn't take my money." She giggled coyly. "I felt—"
"Would you please stop lying?" Jazmine cut in sharply, her eyes flashing with cold irritation. "Or else I fear I might vomit."
Rosaline's smile faltered.
"I know that necklace," Jazmine continued icily. "It's from last year's collection by Infinity Jewelers. David's malls don't even carry that brand."
Jazmine crossed her arms. "At least make your lies believable if you're going to tell them. Don't embarrass yourself like this. It's pathetic."
Rosaline's face turned pale.
When did Jazmine learn to spot designer brands?
"Now if you'll excuse me," Jazmine said coolly, stepping forward. "I still need to change for the show."
Before Rosaline could speak, Jazmine firmly pushed her out of the room and slammed the door in her face.
Rosaline stood frozen in the hallway, flabbergasted.
Inside her room, Jazmine walked over to the bed and picked up the dress Rosaline had brought.

In her previous life, she had foolishly worn it — trusting Rosaline's false kindness because she'd believed David had chosen it.
This time...
Jazmine grabbed a glass of juice from the nearby table and poured it over the fabric.
The crimson liquid seeped into the silk, staining it permanently.
"Not this time," Jazmine murmured coldly, watching the ruined dress drip onto the floor.
